cauldron··on What does WhatsApp’s upcoming monetisation mean for the company and its users?
Tell that to Tencent.

cauldron··on What does WhatsApp’s upcoming monetisation mean for the company and its users?
All company need to make money, it's just a matter of when and how, Facebook's resources may have even did them good, as they can stay away from predatory investment funds that otherwise would bite they hard in the end.
cauldron··on Former Facebook security chief Alex Stamos calls Sundar Pichai a liar over China
From my observation, in order to succeed in SEA and maybe Africa, you need to be predatory, the market has little rule, everyone is jostling to make the most bucks as quick as possible.

And Xi is not a president, don't let their wording finesse fool you, they call the Korean War "Assisting NK against the US", to this day, vast majority of Chinese believe it was the US being the aggressor invading NK.

cauldron··on China Telecom's Internet Traffic Misdirection
CT and Chinese ISPs have been hijacking user traffic for decades, profiting off of it by selling traffic dump to data exploiting companies, insert ads in webpages, steal social media tokens (for follower boosting and ads retweeting).

I've found China Unicom openly hawking their data mining products. https://imgur.com/a/uNxA50K

cauldron··on Amazon Plans to Split HQ2 Evenly Between Two Cities
Can't wait the battle for Amazon HQ3.
cauldron··on Segway was supposed to change the world. Two decades later, it just might
1 scooter battery equals several or tens of notebook batteries, mobile devices generally use safer li polymer ones nowadays.

These scooter batteries sustain intense charging and discharging cycles, I won't bet my house and life on it.

cauldron··on Segway was supposed to change the world. Two decades later, it just might
Charging inside your house is very dangerous, especially in NA where most houses are wooden.

cauldron··on Kids’ Apps Are Crammed With Ads
Get a router that supports dnsmasq, you can block most of ads, although it's easy to evade, you can't really control the kids when they are able to do that.

That way you can also get rid of the hundreds of companies eager to know what you did on the internet.

I have a hosts file that consists of 15000+ lines of blocked domains, accreddited to the inability of wildcards of Windows.
