Sometimes they happen so a company can create synergies and improve the scope of their product offerings
As in any publicly traded company - there are 2 markets at play - capital markets, and the market for the actual products
> The VC-backed industry is all about creating new opportunities (and by definition disrupting someone else's business), and recirculating investment money, improving our economy
2 words I don't see in this sentence are 'product' and 'customer'
who is Noöne? never heard of them. Is that Greta Thunberg's more radical twin?
not familiar with this system, but for large setups, having the maintenance operations block usage can reduce the backup window enough that it impacts your desired scheduling pattern
again, just a hunch, but it helps me make sense of the world :)
update: literally 1st pair of comments i read in WSB on this one is:
"Lol Cramer is such a great actor. “What?! Seriously?!” What a douche"
"Is he okay? He was looking off camera so frequently I thought maybe they are holding his wife hostage there or something.
Cramer, buddy, blink twice if we should call the cops."
Not so amazing when you look at DNC backers, July 30, 1975, etc. More radical unions (e.g. IWW) tend to look at the 'mainstream' unions as 'bosses unions' or 'controlled opposition', and the more libertarian minded often similarly view the relationship between unions and capital as power plays by big corps to raise the 'free market' price of labor and consolidate power.
but will take the opportunity to be a know it all critic from the peanut gallery to be annoyed by the schmarmy 'made with ♥' that i see on everything these days.. is anyone else as annoyed by this as I am? hmm...
wouldn't stop a potential purchase though. kudos!

(missing papers were redacted due to USL vs UCB suit; most are floating around the net if you google hard enough for them)
was also released in in spiral-bound print form through USENIX for at least 4.3BSD (and I think one or both of 4.2BSD or 4.4BSD).
if you see references to 'USD' or 'PSD' or 'SMM' in manual pages, they are referring to this.
shameless opportunity for a personal take:
Unix from v7-4.4BSD was always a self-contained and self-hosting source+binary+documentation collection with a common source lineage to bell labs and its surrounding culture; therefore opengroup certified posix is not unix, despite whatever copyright law might actually say.
Don't know about the standards - wouldn't be surprised that they are lower - but I don't recall hearing much if anything about safety issues at any kind of frequency - so what would they be 'exposing' people to??
using the multiuser support for automation sub-accounts ("service accounts") would be one thing; general 'separation of concerns' for higher security isolation (gitolite runs under a separate SSH account that can only run gitolite), has some hooks for offering read-only pull support using the git protocol pretty transparently.
but yes, i suppose pure single user it's not the hugest advantage.
"You've all seen syntax coloring, right? That's something we put in our text editors to make it easier for kindergardeners to do programming"
:)
cgit or gitweb can be nice additions to bare git for simple repository browsing without the full 'project managment' aspects that gitlab/gitea/redmine etc. add
Agree available drivers/applications might be less than a mainstream linux, but for what is there, things work completely solidly and require basically negative fiddling
people were writing mission-critical C++ when C++ was new / only a few years old; with this in mind, rust is probably good to go with sufficient application/system testing
that said, since C++ & associated tooling exists, there is more of an opportunity cost since, in the context of today, there are more alternatives that could be considered
No insight on Atlanta or Seattle, but Austin has had tech longer than people like to think (IBM/Freescale, UT Austin+TI Partnerships, etc), and also got on the 'hype train' early by rebranding SXSW from pure music/entertainment into 'SXSW Interactive' quite a while back (early 2000s if I'm not mistaken), so you have lots of west coast tech/media/vc 'influencers' heading there on a yearly basis getting schmoozed heavy
Color me cynical, but this seems like a strong gesture at increasing margins on GPU computing by upselling using cryptocurrency and gamers as PR pawns/scapegoats
if Nvidia is selling more cards than they can produce/distribute at desired target prices they should produce more cards and improve their distribution networks..
There's alot of room for adjustments/experimentation within the posix-like OS space; Linux is not always the best vehicle for this experimentation (witness various threading/ipc/scheduling differences with others, security protections, etc. that a) exist and/or b) have been imported/emulated in Linux )
This is a huge thing hugely related to the rest of the 'industry culture' being talked about.
This cuts both ways, and most of the rest country is often a benefactor - many US/NA companies (and I'm assuming govt/military) have a 3rd DR location on the TX grid precisely because it provides an additional point of redundancy. TX also wasn't impacted by CA mismanagement of it's grid, for example..
