cashmonkey85··on Employee #1: Coinbase
I applied for a job and they told me I needed to do a 3 hour online test. I didn't reply back to them
cashmonkey85··on Envisioning Bitcoin’s Technology at the Heart of Global Finance
Technical people (knowledge in bitcoin) are confused by the vague word 'blockchain'. Marketing people are confident it's an important technology. In general people are normally referring to a bitcoin like technology with any innovation removed (a database) that can be used to scam silly banks out of money
cashmonkey85··on Rules of Thumb for HTTP/2 Push
Bloom filter would make sense here. Efficient way to tell the server what files you already have
cashmonkey85··on Rich Countries Often Fail to Bolster Well-Being, Boston Consulting Says
That's a strong case of what I like to call the zero sum delusion. There's no reality to that you are saying
cashmonkey85··on As Japan's population shrinks, bears and boars roam among schools and shrines
If woman have children their careers are over in a very competitive society. And there is no child support from the government.
cashmonkey85··on Stephen Hawking says pollution and 'stupidity' still biggest threats to mankind
Higher population leads to large CO2 output because we design our economies that way. China and many countries subsidise coal and other fossil fuels. Nuclear power is not widely used
cashmonkey85··on Coinbase Co-founder: Ethereum Is the Forefront of Digital Currency
The innovative is that bitcoin is an autonomous computer network. It uses game theory and cryptography to ensure that no one entity can control and network and that the network always performs its operations independently and neutrally. This is an incredible innovation. Etherium is not this and just empty hype. There is a lot of misinformation out there. Bitcoin is not just a data structure.
cashmonkey85··on A better way to buy code. Use tests to buy code
Hey, thanks for the example. This is definitely something we want to avoid with this platform and have thought of ways to mitigate it.

One way is we will allow the buyer to further test submissions as black boxes to see if the output matches their expectations.

The second way is with a rating system as extra information for the buyer and an incentive for the coders to write good code.

cashmonkey85··on Restoring the Old Way of Warming: Heating People, Not Places
New Zealand is much the same with cheap uninsulated houses plus some bonus mold from a humid winter. Living in poorer korea now but the standard of living is higher just because they bother to insulate their houses.
cashmonkey85··on Solar plant has generated “supercritical” steam
Watch "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO): Tony Ab…" on YouTube - Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO): Tony Ab…: http://youtu.be/c3IaKVmkXuk
cashmonkey85··on Payments: The end of a monopoly
It works only if you are a native born resident. Immigrants are excluded because of what PayPal says are "legal restrictions" Sucks for me because all my clients insist on PayPal
cashmonkey85··on Larry Page: I’d Rather Leave My Billions to Elon Musk Than to Charity
Elon Musk is also trying to save humanity from climate change with a solar company, battery factory and electric cars. Climate change is a much greater threat to humanity than polio.
cashmonkey85··on Musk: Tesla will have a factory in China
I hope no one else thinks this is a good idea. The problem isn't corporate control of government stopped this but the fact it would do so much damage to the American economy and maybe start a trade war.
cashmonkey85··on Show HN: I open-sourced my web app alternative to Illustrator
The is also http://vectorpaint.yaks.co.nz an online vector editor
cashmonkey85··on The Death Of Expertise
Like when that pseudointellectual tried to explain the theory of relativity. Anyone with intuition would know it was bullshit.
cashmonkey85··on The Death Of Expertise
As someone who studied economics I believed I had well thought out positions before studying and wasn't sure how my opinions were going to change. It turned out all my theories were worthless compared to the combined knowledge of the field and the genius observations over the centuries. So your example of not needing economists is unconvincing. We do need to check up on them frequently though and no one should get a free pass.
cashmonkey85··on Conservative groups spend up to $1B a year to fight action on climate change
I know people that denie carbon dioxide traps heat and wish that basic science is a conspiracy.
cashmonkey85··on A Prediction: Bitcoin Is Doomed to Fail
That is true for me locally also but you realise when you travel or do business international the current systems all fail to do their job.
cashmonkey85··on Bitcoin and Gold
Gold's intrinsic value is such a small percentage of its market value it's basically irrelevant.
cashmonkey85··on IE11 for Windows 7 Globally Available
Still will have to debug the random svg crash I'm having with ie today because ie11 doesn't fix it. Classlist for svg is still not fixed.
cashmonkey85··on How much money are you earning from your software products?
Vector graphics app http://vectorpaint.yaks.co.nz Calculated revenue would be $200 a week selling a small upgrade but leave it free at the moment.
cashmonkey85··on Facebook has just invited me to interview and now I’m pissed off
Facebook is an odd company. When I applied they sent me a page of information about how all the people saying the work environment was bad are wrong. Oddly defensive and sensitive. I live in New Zealand not near SV was unaware of any bad press until they send me a page of defensive articles unprompted.
cashmonkey85··on Snap – A JavaScript SVG Library
I've found svg.js unusable for any project I've had as it requires all svg content to be created with svg.js and no imports.
cashmonkey85··on Svg.js
Try vectorpaint.yaks.co.nz
cashmonkey85··on Why you should not trust emails sent from Google
Why would you expect a reward for a bug just because it was a crash? I work in SVG and have reported a handful of crashes and never expected to qualify for their security reward.
cashmonkey85··on Tesla Model S Outperforms Aston Martin
Not only are electric now superior cars but the restrictions on ICE are getting stricter and stricter to limit their damage.
cashmonkey85··on The Python Shell as a Chrome Web App
This is an extension not a Web App. Change the title.
cashmonkey85··on Keeping the Trans Pacific Partnership from changing our copyright laws
People still watch movies on DVDs? We should just do it if it gets us a trade deal with the US even if it is insanely illogical.
