cantrecallmypwd··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
Rich people are typically insulated from economic downturns, especially ones they cause, by their ability to shift investments and asset allocations to mitigate and/or profit from changing tides.

Furthermore, Trump has never bought his own groceries, pumped his own gas, or interviewed for a job so retail prices and layoffs are abstractions "for plebs". Plus, he's reaching the end of his life so he doesn't have very much proverbial skin in the game since his motivations revolve almost exclusively around himself.

cantrecallmypwd··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
That's an over-simplified answer. There are many people who share in the blame. Him for doing it as a visible catalyst, everyone who voted for him, presidential advisers who recommended these disastrous policies, and those who sat idly by and let the country be destroyed without acting to prevent it, especially those with greater-than-ordinary power who failed to act.
cantrecallmypwd··on Why America now eats a crazy number of avocados
This is true of most of the SF Bay Area on a 100 year timescale too. I grew up in a house on land that was formerly a cherry orchard. Some of the most ideal farm land in world has been converted to residential neighborhoods and is far too expensive to use as farmland, well, except for Walter Cottle Lester.
cantrecallmypwd··on Why America now eats a crazy number of avocados
Costco in the US offers single-serve sealed just avocado, about 1/2 of a large fruit, that last for weeks. Absolutely perfect every time with more consistency than the real thing™.
cantrecallmypwd··on New Windows 11 build makes mandatory Microsoft sign-in even more mandatory
Windows continual slowdown and incompatibility is intentional to sell new hardware. This has happened since the 90's.
cantrecallmypwd··on Conquest of the Incas
A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies (1551) slightly later leaves out the lionization and describes the atrocities and abuse of natives and imported slaves. It should be required reading as it was driven by greed without morality on multiple continents, eventually consuming c. 150M human beings under all colonial powers.
cantrecallmypwd··on RFK Jr. forces out FDA's top vaccine scientist, Peter Marks
If you have money in America, you get great care.

If you lack money, you get to die alone waiting in urgent care after ER said it "wasn't serious". And your next of kin get a bill for $20k.

cantrecallmypwd··on The Pyrex Glass Controversy That Just Won't Die (2019)
This is what under-regulated capitalism always leads to... unlimited greed making things worse and more expensive.
cantrecallmypwd··on The Pyrex Glass Controversy That Just Won't Die (2019)
The biggest problem is finding ergonomically low-effort, efficient storage glassware usable by elderly and disabled people. I wished OXO went away from plastic entirely.
cantrecallmypwd··on The Pyrex Glass Controversy That Just Won't Die (2019)
Thermal stress wears most objects.

It's hit or miss but the loss of trust and goodwill occurred and hasn't been reversed. It's safer to not buy their new stuff so to not reward them for resting on their brand laurels. There are plenty of old and other borosilicate products to avoid them.

cantrecallmypwd··on The Pyrex Glass Controversy That Just Won't Die (2019)
Everybody knows Pyrex started cheaping-out on use of borosilicate glass about the time they changed the logo on measuring cups. "Pyrex" "glass" is mostly ordinary glass now and pure garbage because of the corrosive effects of long-term corporate enshitification.
cantrecallmypwd··on Tesla to recall more than 46,000 Cybertrucks due to exterior panel issue
I call him Joe Rogaine.
cantrecallmypwd··on CueCat
Ah yes. That summer I was interning at an aerospace company when my coworker contributed a Linux driver for it. I think I snagged a half dozen of the keyboard variants from RadioShack. It was great for tinkerers because they were dotcom money-subsidized free barcode scanners.
cantrecallmypwd··on Harvard study finds seed oils healthier than butter
The "health and wellness" conspiracy nut influencer fad crowd believes they "know better" than science, which is nothing new. If they say it's "good", probably best to avoid or do the opposite.
cantrecallmypwd··on Harvard study finds seed oils healthier than butter – The Western Producer
It's really easy to make ghee. Just get butter and make it. It will be more expensive and take time, but at least you'll know what's in it.
cantrecallmypwd··on Harvard study finds seed oils healthier than butter – The Western Producer
Appeal to tradition fallacy, also known as "smokers' logic".
cantrecallmypwd··on Harvard study finds seed oils healthier than butter – The Western Producer
It's just filtered butter. With high temperature cooking yes, otherwise maybe.
cantrecallmypwd··on Harvard study finds seed oils healthier than butter – The Western Producer
This changes nothing.

Cook with: Avocado oil or butter as a secondary alternative

Consume raw: Extra virgin olive, flaxseed, or walnut oil

cantrecallmypwd··on Amazon to kill off local Alexa processing, all voice requests shipped to cloud
Waste of time. Find something else constructive to do.
cantrecallmypwd··on Amazon to kill off local Alexa processing, all voice requests shipped to cloud
It's better to stop the flow of Big Brother-like privacy violations and repurpose it to do something useful than add to e-waste.
cantrecallmypwd··on FTC Removes Posts Critical of Amazon, Microsoft, and AI Companies
There's a conflict between destroying all government, corrupting it for personal gain by a given elected official, and corrupting it to serve a given owner of a given megacorp.

Somewhere along the way ethics, morals, truth, and serving We the People was lost.

cantrecallmypwd··on FTC Removes Posts Critical of Amazon, Microsoft, and AI Companies
When technofeudal corporate owners don't just capture the regulators but install lackeys in service of them. This is a natural progression towards authoritarianism and corruption.
cantrecallmypwd··on Ask HN: How Do I Escape Homelessness After Rebuilding My Mental Health?
I lived in vehicles for 11 years until eventually resettling with family after circumstances changes.

1. Find the local county or city social services agency.

2. Apply for emergency aid and shelter, including Medicaid and SNAP.

3. Apply for section 8 housing. This usually will take a great deal of time.

cantrecallmypwd··on Trump Derangement Syndrome
Blaming everyone else plus inability to admit fault and narcissism have a lot in common. It's some dark stuff that doesn't reflect well on America.
cantrecallmypwd··on Trump Derangement Syndrome
Victim mentality much?
cantrecallmypwd··on Trump Derangement Syndrome
If it takes being labeled as mentally ill to get healthcare, I'll admit to unapproved doublespeak.
cantrecallmypwd··on Trump Derangement Syndrome
It's arguing semantics about the arrangement of deck chairs when a cult has taken over a sinking Titanic.
cantrecallmypwd··on [dead]
People have to stop putting blind faith in hopeful obedience and expecting anything but being used by corporations. Worker-owned co-ops and unions are essential to restoring balance and ensuring long-term stability over private equity vulture capitalist destruction.
cantrecallmypwd··on Military grade sonic weapon is used against protesters in Serbia
Weapons of war used by colonizers to oppress others inevitably turn these to crush dissent at home. And also journalism about atrocities such as what happened to Julian Assange or objection to military adventurism as the NYT turned on Chris Hedges.
cantrecallmypwd··on Military grade sonic weapon is used against protesters in Serbia
You're using whataboutism to conflate the Serbian government with an imaginary counter faction. Civil war requires 2+ factions that cannot or will not express their grievances through political means. This simply isn't the case.
