cantrecallmypwd··on What we get when male fitness standards clash with female preferences
Another thing is that muscle requires constant maintenance in the forms of exercise and food.

The overweight but otherwise healthy individual will last longer in crisis situations. I'm about 60 lbs. overweight, which translates to around 3 months of caloric reserves (likely an unhealthy amount TBH).

Before industrialization, being overweight was seen as a mark of beauty and wealth regardless of gender.

(Not a rationalization for being unfit or unhealthy when taken to extremes.)

cantrecallmypwd··on Tesla is in worse shape than you think
BYD has overtaken Tesla technically but isn't allowed in the US due to anti-competitive, pseudo-nativist protectionism (and also a lack of homologation which doesn't make financial sense because of the previous point.)
cantrecallmypwd··on The Enshittification of Tech Jobs
> The people in power increasingly make it harder to have a voice or lift yourself out of poverty.

Thom Hartmann just made this point on his daily show from a class statist-perspective where the rich kids at the Ivies are offered upward mobility while everything everywhere else condemns the individual to class immobility.

cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
Except that's not true because rendering a target's device unusable temporarily and/or effectively permanently is a useful payload regardless of what you think.
cantrecallmypwd··on What Porn Did to American Culture?
Half of headlines trad media and social media these days tend to conceal promotion of books, other merch, harebrained utopian ideology, and/or self.

cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
That was a pejorative for unwieldy and inconvenient devices like rugged government secure cell phones that lagged behind consumer tech.

Brick means entirely useless except as a doorstop, projectile, or building material.

cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
Which was Vupen too before that. One company name is unimportant because multiple shady groups and individuals are out there buying and selling 0daya. This is definitely the case because state actors don't develop 100% them themselves and must get them from somewhere. It's a small but nonzero market of expediency.
cantrecallmypwd··on Trump denies disaster aid, tells states to do more
Yep. I can't use certain words or express forbidden "sentiment" on Youtube because my comments will be auto-deleted or I will be called "bullying" and violating TOS for responding to a video's ideas abstractly without getting personal or going low in any form. This is illiberal technofeudalism done for profit and for driving particular agendas and themes while silencing others that they find inconvenient.

My conclusion is only non-profit public utilities can promote maximum freedom because corporations will banish and muzzle anyone who disagrees with their advertisers or corporate masters.

cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
Maybe Zerodium would've paid $75k but that would be less ethical because Israel and America would weaponize it.
cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
Incorrect. Bricking means a device becomes a doorstop that cannot be resurrected or repaired by the user non-invasively. That's the whole point of the term.
cantrecallmypwd··on How a single line of code could brick your iPhone
Correct. The terminology is wrong. It's an annoying, repeated DoS that doesn't ruin the device permanently but could lose user data if it must be erased.
cantrecallmypwd··on National Archives Releases Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Records
Religion, team sports, and politics. Also, cold fusion and VR.
cantrecallmypwd··on National Archives Releases Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) Records
There ain't no ET or alien vessels here. It's a cavalcade of distractions to baffle, befuddle, and bemuse the populace from focusing on the corruption, the lies, and the injustices.
cantrecallmypwd··on U.S. autism data project sparks uproar over ethics, privacy and intent
It's a dog whistle for hyper-individualism, radical selfishness, violating Kantian ethics, and stepping over homeless people.
cantrecallmypwd··on Why Sedans Disappeared
You're arguing with yourself. Obama is a symptom but not a cause.
cantrecallmypwd··on Why Sedans Disappeared
Because Obama is/was a neoliberal, corporate salesman. D and R teams are different wings of the same overall property party. Obama 2.0 "Abundance" neo-neoliberalism like Gavin Newsom aim to expedite the privatization of America and weakening of regulations to celebrate trickle-down economics in a dressed-up new form.
cantrecallmypwd··on An end to all this prostate trouble?
Excellent work, keep it up!

On a selfish note, it'd be nice if it were available from Urology Austin sometime in the next 10-15 years.

cantrecallmypwd··on Backblaze: Mounting Losses, Lawsuits, Sham Accounting, Insider Selling
More or less.

XFS or ext2 (or 3 or 4 wo journal), without LVM or mdraid.

There's no point to adding RAID at the hardware or OS level for object storage boxes when redundancy exists at the application level. A drive with too many errors will be marked "dead" and just spun down and ignored.

Metadata servers OTOH tend to be engineered to be much more reliable beasts.

Small data, or low risk tolerance: Tarsnap

WordPerfect 6.0a for DOS and MS-DOS 6.22 is what we used back in the day™.
cantrecallmypwd··on White House Considers Slashing China Tariffs to De-Escalate Trade War
You're disingenuously abusing the common definition of the word "conspiracy". That's a dumb, utopian project rather than a secret coup.
cantrecallmypwd··on Tapeworm in fox poop that will slowly destroy your organs is on the rise
We had wild bats, crows, vultures, woodpeckers, jays, finches, hummingbirds, eagles, turkeys, peacocks, foxes, deer, and black bear. Also, recovering and "recovering" meth addicts from a halfway house wandering down to the pharmacy 6 blocks away.
cantrecallmypwd··on Tapeworm in fox poop that will slowly destroy your organs is on the rise
Where I used to live in Paradise, foxes would eagerly come over to within 3m/10' and watch what I was working on outside.

Just remember the failsafe approach to wildlife: assume they are carriers of communicable diseases like rabies, hantavirus, anthrax, plague, bird flu, EEEV, and rare and novel diseases unknown to most doctors or all scientific literature.

cantrecallmypwd··on First Successful Lightning Triggering and Guiding Using a Drone
There's 2 kinds of CG and there's long-line-induced EM.

Ordinary -CG is 30 kA / 30 C / energy of 1 t of TNT. +CG is 10x that.

Direct hits are survived all the time by lightning rods for the past 275 years.

Long, unshielded lines of any sort can induce massive transient voltage transients (low current) that need to be protected with appropriate TVS circuits that will wear more in storm-prone areas. EMI from nearby lightning in unshielded computing systems with antennas or even without antennas can also be a factor.

cantrecallmypwd··on White House Considers Slashing China Tariffs to De-Escalate Trade War
Except it's an unintentional "decapitation strike" ricochet by manufactured consent mobocracy footgunning. There was no grand conspiracy apart from minor nuisance foreign nudging and greedy swindlers, just too many people reinforcing foolishness and discontent inappropriately when they could've elected someone with integrity, liberal Western values like concern for the poor- and middle-class of the entire melting pot. America can't have healthcare for all, safe food, bodily autonomy, publicly-funded scientific research, public libraries, or public schools because that'd be "communism".
cantrecallmypwd··on They made computers behave like annoying salesmen
Companies aren't people and so lack volition. It's under-regulated greed and sense of entitlement by decision-makers, owners and/or managers, that is the problem. The root cause is the political corruption that systematically promotes and endorses this kind of behavior.
cantrecallmypwd··on They made computers behave like annoying salesmen
You're a consumer entirely dependent on a corporation. Broaden your horizons a little, maybe get a library card and read a book.
cantrecallmypwd··on They made computers behave like annoying salesmen
Ever heard of SAIC or the Navy Federal Credit Union?
cantrecallmypwd··on They made computers behave like annoying salesmen
Forcing? No. You're injecting illiberal FUD.
