cantSpellSober··on Useful built-in macOS command-line utilities
TinkerTool provides a GUI that runs some useful commands under the hood

cantSpellSober··on Hacking 700M Electronic Arts Accounts
Thanks! Any good examples?

Valve comes to mind: https://hackerone.com/valve?type=team

cantSpellSober··on Hacking 700M Electronic Arts accounts
...and no bounty. I hope they were at least thanked! (great writeup thank you)
cantSpellSober··on Try to fix it one level deeper
In enterprise monorepos I find this hard because "one level deeper" is often code you don't own.

Fun article, good mantra!

cantSpellSober··on ARIA: An Open Multimodal Native Mixture-of-Experts Model
> outperforms Pixtral-12B and Llama3.2-11B

Cool, maybe needs of a better name for SEO though. ARIA has meaning in web apps.

cantSpellSober··on So thieves broke into your storage unit again
How to with rental cars?

I don't own and no local insurers will offer me non-owner insurance. I have to get the crappy expensive insurance at the rental car desk.

cantSpellSober··on Show HN: Put ful.co/ in front of any URL to easily copy its SVGs and images
Next challenge, make it work for dynamic images (that aren't present on initial load).

Thanks! Saves me the chore of opening the Network tab on the inspector to manually do this stuff.

cantSpellSober··on WP Engine is not WordPress
The author's argument is that calling WP Engine's causing confusion. If so, wouldn't they be suing instead of blogging?
cantSpellSober··on I Like Makefiles
It's funny such a simple title inspired a flamewar. The article itself is an insanely simple use case for make (that uses gulp in 2024?) that clearly no one read.
cantSpellSober··on Tailwind CSS vs. Pico CSS (2022)
So in 2024—what classless/minimal CSS frameworks compete with Pico? Tailwind is a poor comparison.
cantSpellSober··on Tailwind CSS vs. Pico CSS (2022)
Does CSS have primitives? There are data types but Bootstrap doesn't change those.

cantSpellSober··on New York Times tech workers union votes to authorize a strike
You're thinking of editors, and journalists do choose what they cover to an extent. Management ostensibly sees that everything goes according to plan/schedule. Fair point though–if mgmt is pushing some initiative, that pressure is felt in a newsroom.
cantSpellSober··on DiyPresso: DIY Espresso Machine
Yep, love the hacker spirit but the headline reads like "DIY Warhead" to me
cantSpellSober··on DiyPresso: DIY Espresso Machine
Maybe if this takes off it will be hackable enough to convert to 58mm depending on the user's taste
cantSpellSober··on DiyPresso: DIY Espresso Machine
french press or a moka pot aren't espresso, moka doesn't have the extraction pressure "real" espresso machines have (still quite enjoy them though!).
cantSpellSober··on New York Times tech workers union votes to authorize a strike
> Who are they to judge how big tech treats their employees when they pay their own so poorly?

The journalists (and tech workers) don't decide their own salary.

You conflated "they" as both management and the people being managed, to make it "ironic."

cantSpellSober··on Htmx, Raku and Pico CSS
Why Pico specifically? Lots of classless frameworks.

> I am a simple sole [sic]

`href=#` + JS library + config file + setting routes for each tab button doesn't feel simple

cantSpellSober··on Wild new Wi-Fi routers turn your home network into a security radar
It sounds like the wifi part is essential to body detection, no?
cantSpellSober··on Wild new Wi-Fi routers turn your home network into a security radar
Taken at their word they wouldn't

> Gamgee insists that all motion data is processed and stored on the routers themselves, and never in the cloud

The article mentions a feature that could be creepy though:

> you could review “motion history,” including which family members went into which rooms when and for how long

cantSpellSober··on Tour de France: How professional cycling teams eat and cook on the road
Yes Steel is Real but the last Tour winner on a steel bike was in the '90s (and that's the subject). Bikes weigh no more than 8kg. The weight weenies are winning, carbon everything down to brake rotors.

> I was allowed a modern click shifter and modern disk brakes

Doubt you'd see a bike equipped with anything else at the Tour.

cantSpellSober··on Show HN: Focal, a Pomodoro App
Imagine a small mini golf course getting sued by Monster Cable for using the word "monster."

cantSpellSober··on Show HN: Focal, a Pomodoro App
As noted in the trademark

> The English translation of "POMODORO" in the mark is "tomato" or "tomato plant".

https://trademarks.justia.com/857/90/pomodoro-85790837.html

cantSpellSober··on Show HN: Focal, a Pomodoro App
True, but the trademark is in this category though, "Pomodoro" along with "Pomodoro Timer."

> Examples of products can be, but are not limited to:

> - Timer

> - Software application – desktop, server, mobile

https://www.pomodorotechnique.com/pomodoro-trademark-guideli....

Just saying. Not sure they'd come after a project this size (thanks for sharing OP!). You could probably safely make a line of Pomodoro brand jet skis.

cantSpellSober··on Spudguns: Potato Cannon Guide
I don't see any updates in the archive since then
cantSpellSober··on Spudguns: Potato Cannon Guide

Can we add (2008) to the title please?

cantSpellSober··on WordStar – A Writer's Word Processor (1990)
It became such a meme Childish Gambino made a song about it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE56dWF0p-M

cantSpellSober··on Flow Charts with CSS Anchor Positioning
Frontend devs in 2000: "Why can't we do grid layouts?!"

In 2020: "Grid is too much!" :)

Anchors in general are great, and they can be abused. Just like how we abused `transform` to vertically center things before flexbox.

cantSpellSober··on Figma Slides
There's useful animations—guiding the audience that something has changed for ex.

Then there's the terrible animations—a gif of a meme playing in an infinite loop. These make the slide unwatchable for me.

cantSpellSober··on Test firing of a 3D-printed rocket engine designed through computational model
> 3D-printed in copper

Are there consumer-grade 3D printers that can print copper?

Or print a hobby-sized version of a rocket (out of some heat-resistant material)?

(I'm thinking about the model rockets you may have had as a kid with an A8-3 engine.)
