Sweet it starts as soon as I get off work to boot.
canadiancreed··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (August 2015)
Tried applying here twice, never heard any reply. Looks like some interesting tech your'e working with, just wish I would hear if I would be considered or not.
canadiancreed··on The Unemployable Programmer
If I had the skills to learn French, it would have been done by now (you're forced to take it for at least five years in Canadian schools). Don't know what it is, I can pick up coding languages easily enough, but human languages? No dice.

Tried applying to your posting last month but sadly never got a reply. Possibly due to being outside the US?

Greetings fellow SW Ontarioer. Impressive resume you have going on there, good luck in your search!

SEEKING WORK - Looking for remote, or onsite if located either in Kitchener/Waterloo, the GTA, or SE Pennsylvania/Northern Delaware (need TN Visa for the last one)

Hello there. I'm an experienced developer that has over seven years in the industry, developing web applications from the ground up with multiple technology stacks. Some of them include PHP, Java, Python, AngularJS and Jquery, most major databases, webservers and operating systems.

How can I help your company/organization?

- Are you a startup that needs someone that has experience in multiple technical areas, and business experience as well?

- Do you have a codebase that has become a nightmare to maintain, and could use a refactoring in the worst way?

- Is your application having issues scaling to meet your new customer demands?

- Are you having a hard time finding developers that have experience in your stack and are debating converting to a more modern setup?

- have a greenfield project that could use an experienced hand to take it from concept to completion?

- Just need an experienced developer that has worked on projects more complex then "Hello World"?

If your answer to any of these was yes, then lets chat. Please contact me via email at creedis at gmail dot com, or have a look at what I've been up too at https://ca.linkedin.com/in/canadiancreed and let's see how I can help your project.

> If you think finding a good developer is hard, try finding a good developer who also holds a security clearance.

Maybe it's harder to find in the States. I had a Canadian clearance for ten years (it wasn't a low level one either), and could never get a job, even with experience in whatever stack they were utilizing. The reason? Couldn't speak french. Even thought the coding language is all either English or math, and from contacts I have in the industry it's completely English, no dice.

Then again I can't get work for any defense company in the states because I'm not American so that's always fun too.

Talked to these guys last week in regards to this position. Was an enjoyable conversation. If you have exp in their stack and are in the Philly area, you'd do well to contact them.

canadiancreed··on Ask HN: Is JavaEE dead?
If it's dead, someone should tell the recruiters that keep spamming my inbox. I've had four in the last month asking if I'd be interested in working on some JavaEE projects, even though I have no experience in that (they probably see Java and run with it)

"The in-person requirement is one the company is unlikely to let go of"

That's too bad, since this is a place that looks like it'd be very interesting to work at, but with no degree there's no chance in hell I'd be allowed to work in the US (at least so previous attempts have told me), and it looks like remote is a no-go.

Was having a lookover of your available positions, but none of them stated remote. Are all of them possibility of remote location?
canadiancreed··on Poll: What database does your company/you use?
The vast majority of places I've worked at used MySQL, which isn't surprising considering most have been LAMP shops. Only one Postgres, and one MSSQL
canadiancreed··on Ask HN: What does your home office look like?
This is exactly what I want to see every day when I go to work. You are a fortunate person.
canadiancreed··on Poll: Was one of your parents a programmer?
The only person that I ever knew of that programmed was my uncle, who passed away the same year I was born. From what I was told, and from the books he had let behind, he was pretty knowledgable in COBOL and FORTRAN (it was the 60s). Had no-one in the family ever so much as even suggest getting into programming, or even what it meant (the family tree is very salt-of-the earth to put it nicely)

Ah that would explain no feedback as of yet. Shoot. Hopefully you'll get some Canadian based clients soon.
canadiancreed··on Salaries for Developers and Designers across the world
Canada's salary points seem really low....or there's a lot of "you must know everything and we'll pay you minimum wage" jobs that they're scooping from the Canadian Job Bank. From that list, I want to be heading to either Australia or the US.

Also for PHP dev average, where do you get 75k for junior, and 100k+ or senior? Sure isn't Canada. 75k here is senior level salary, and that's in Toronto. I've only ever seen one PHP job in Canada that paid 100k, and that was an architect position, 10 years experience, and needed to have experience with incredibly large datasets.

I believe this thread (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=6475879) would be better for what you're after.

canadiancreed··on Going to work from home today – our office is too loud
It beats open concept warehouse space, although only for audio distractions
canadiancreed··on Going to work from home today – our office is too loud
Where do you work again? (looking to escape open office hell)
canadiancreed··on Rambling On [PHP] Internals
The "it's popular, hence it's great" argument isn't a good one to use to evangelize though, at least not by itself. Case in point, what operating system is still the most popular by far? Popular doesn't always equate to best.
canadiancreed··on Rambling On [PHP] Internals
...if you're lucky to be working in a PHP dev shop that utilises current and proper tech. Most PHP shops that I've had experience with, either directly or through other PHP coders, are mostly stuck with mysql_query esque setups all over the place. If they're lucky, someone wrote an OO wrapper for it.

That being said, it's a small sample size of maybe just over 100 over the last few years. Weigh accordingly.
