calgoo··on AWS Bedrock to require sharing data with Anthropic for Mythos and future models
No, we are unhappy because there is no guarantee that my corporate documents wont be shared or trained on. We are already paying plus for using bedrock instead of the API version from Anthropic, so now there is no reason to use bedrock anymore. This whole thing about this model being too powerful to share is just the usual BS. Is an advanced model that dont have guardrails, just like the models that have been shared with the US government for years.
calgoo··on Do we need billionaires?
Exactly, at that point it shares need to be taxed. SpaceX is valued at ~$1T Dollars and you own 60% of the shares? OK now you are paying taxes on those 60% every year, not on the income it generates, but on the value of what you own.

Same for land - Anything above X size or # of properties gets taxed at 50% the land value each year.

Now would this happen? Who knows, and also it will have other effects, like devaluing the stockmarket as no one want to pay taxes on billions worth of stocks.

calgoo··on OpenAI frontier models and Codex are now available on AWS
Our corporate lawyers have all reviewed these things. And like others mentioned, the SLAs are not the concern, its related to data security and someone to blame if things go boom.
calgoo··on Lid-lifting Kiwi author forced to sit in silence at writers' festival
Why event a year for a NDA? 1 month after leaving the company should be max. They are Meta, who cares what BS they are building to destroy peoples life's. There is no reason to keep these things secret. This is not MI6 or the CIA, its a massive corporation, they should not have any such rights.
calgoo··on Claude Code – Everything you can configure that the docs don't tell you
Thanks!!
calgoo··on Volkswagen blocks Home Assistant by requiring client assertion
Yea is there not a saying about when the suits and bean counters take over a company the culture dies?
calgoo··on Claude Code – Everything you can configure that the docs don't tell you
I so miss that clear context and execute plan mode! Now i have to keep clearing it manually again.
calgoo··on Bricks and Minifigs Stole a Man's $200k Lego Collection
Yes? Take the side of the person getting railroaded by a giant corporation, a bunch of corrupt cops, and a legal system that is built to protect the big, and milk the poor.

Whats the other side in this? Feel bad for the 400 million corp with their army of lawyers? Feel bad for the store owners who scammed the person and acted like a total dick? Honestly, whats your take on this?

calgoo··on What we lost when we stopped letting kids leave the front yard
As someone living in the center of Barcelona, i might have to come over to Galicia in the future. Hows the public schools in general, similar to here in catalunya i assume. Buying anything around here feels like a half million investment and its not wort it.
calgoo··on Norway's 2 petabytes of Huawei flash storage and LLM training
Why should they share all this data with the greedy american corporations that are stealing everyones data for their own profit? Much better to keep the legal agreement with the national institutions and possibly develop something actual useful to their own country.
calgoo··on Tennessee man jailed 37 days for Trump meme wins settlement after lawsuit
Well, its not like thats going to happen when people settle out of court. Not sure if his first amendment rights have been vindicated really...

Today, the parties announced in a joint statement that Larry will receive $835,000 in exchange for dismissing his complaint.

“I am pleased my First Amendment rights have been vindicated,” said Larry.

calgoo··on OpenAI and Government of Malta partner to roll out ChatGPT Plus to all citizens
I have worked for enterprise companies all my life, they are all a horrible mess of people trying to play 4d chess to get a promotion and look good. They do offer better life / work balance, so if you are not a workaholic like the startup / SF crowd, then its actually a decent job. Just remember to enjoy the life outside the office, with people that are not from the office and you will be fine.
calgoo··on Twin brothers wipe 96 government databases minutes after being fired
No this is labour law in the UK, I just had this last year. Its 3 months where you get paid and you can search for a job etc. Made our new American CEO livid that he could not just fire people.
calgoo··on Higher usage limits for Claude and a compute deal with SpaceX
I have found that it uses a lot more tokens if I give it a very detailed todo and loop over every task 1 by 1. I now keep it to phases with detailed tasks underneath and use /loop over the phases and it uses a lot less. I also manage the context windows and tend to clear it often to keep it under around 200k (or less depending on project size)
calgoo··on The text mode lie: why modern TUIs are a nightmare for accessibility
Depends, I'm building a markdown down editor that just previews in the web ui. However, I can use the web ui to do tasks like uploading files, view git commits etc. Different interfaces for different purposes. The CLI gives me focused mode, and then visual stuff that steal my time goes in the web

I use Marvin from the Star Force space opera book series. He loves sensors and information, and adds a level of challenge to counters the llm obsession with answering in over happy terms. I had Claude write me a character bible that I can include in projects to keep it consistent.
calgoo··on After dissing Anthropic for limiting Mythos, OpenAI restricts access to Cyber
I think the question around the Firefox find, is not that they found hundreds of vulnerabilities - they found hundreds of bugs.

What would be really interesting is a side by side Claude Opus 4.7 and Mythos comparison.

calgoo··on Google and Pentagon reportedly agree on deal for 'any lawful' use of AI
I hate this part: `domestic mass surveillance`

So the rest of the world is fine to spy on, its the domestic part they don't agree with. So go on, destroy lives all around the world, helping the powers at be build the fascist state. Its fine to use Gemini to tell what building to blow up; its fine for Gemini to wrongly identify people and cause hundreds or thousands of deaths based on the telling the military who to attack.

calgoo··on Google and Pentagon reportedly agree on deal for 'any lawful' use of AI
Please! That ship sailed a long time ago. Sure tell your congressman, who is most likely bribed (lobbying is bribing, lets use the real words) by the same companies to accept the deal. The courts can try, but who is going to enforce it when the people above says that its fine.
calgoo··on Microsoft and OpenAI end their exclusive and revenue-sharing deal
Im running fine on my AMD 7800xt 16gb... Yes memory is a bit limited, but apart from the i have found that it works great using Vulcan in LM studio for example.

ROCm works great too, the only issue i have had is that my machine froze a couple of times as it used 100% of the graphics and the OS had nothing left. Since moving to vulcan i stopped getting these errors apart from a little UI slowdown when i had 4 models loaded at the same time taking turns.

Im also on a i7 6700 with 32gb DDR4 so im sure that is causing more slowdowns then the graphics card.

calgoo··on The AI industry is discovering that the public hates it
We can just turn all the office buildings into datacenters, they already look like heating vents! cover them in solar panels on the outside to cover the windows, and done!
calgoo··on DeepSeek v4
You mean the west handed their industry to china over the last 15 years? Its not like the US is any better off in this. The EU is not a country, so you can't talk about it as if it was. Each country has their own companies and industries. There is AI in Europe, and its growing, however we might not be as "energetic" about destroying our countries to build giant data centers to serve our billionaire overlords. That does not mean that there is no investment, there is, including a bunch of American corporations like Amazon. But there is also a lot of corruption and bribing (lobbying - lets call it what it really is, no more whitewashing) going on around that too.

So again, stop referring to EU as a country, we are not, and it just annoys any Europeans as it comes of as "Americans who don't understand the world outside of the USA".

calgoo··on John Ternus to become Apple CEO
All the C-suits in Apple that normally does the presentations look completely LA style artificial. Nothing looks human about them, they always give off the same feel of un-personal, robotic, snake oil sales people; not someone that you actually would like to lead a company, as in someone who actually understands what it means to be human.
calgoo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
But cloudflare has no issue blocking the content if they receive a court order. The issue here is that La Liga wants to be able to get content blocked because they say so, and it has to be done right now.

I also don't support these organizations that destroy the sports that people love, force you to subscribe to different services as each game and "liga" has made their own deals to make as much money as possible. Until we remove the stupid amount of money that is involved in these sport events nothing will change. And now they are talking about other events like movies, series and live entertainment show. Hopefully they come for the VPNs next and break every business VPN tunnel whenever they want. Hopefully that will cause enough backlash that they finally fix this BS once and for all.

calgoo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
No thank you, i don't watch sports, why should i pay for that crap just so a corrupt judge can get another car or sit on some board of some company when they "retire"
calgoo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
As a Swede living in Spain for over 30 years, i much prefer to stay down here. My personal feel is that the Nordic countries "nanny" their populations too much. Too much say in way you can or can't do, and the culture encourages it (O my why are they talking so loud, O my they are arguing outside in public!.... My own experiences when visiting). The governments also don't know how to deal with the ingress of immigration as well as having a extensively privatized system that does not work (healthcare, schools, transport - i think its slowly getting better). Now there are great things too... But i feel safer walking the streets of Barcelona then the streets of Malmo.

Now Spain have their own issues - there are a lot of very light leaning people around still... there was no revolution when the dictator died. A lot of judges and military police officers that had murdered people under Franco continued in service. And of course, lets not forget how the countries plays everyone against Catalunya and Pais Vasco, everything is our fault if you ask people in the south and just like i mentioned above, all we hear about is the Vox and other ultra right people talking crap.

I think one of the few good things we still have down here in Spain is that there is still a memory of Franco, of the dictatorship. If not you, then one of your parents or grandparents lived it.

calgoo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
Its football, so no people are not in the streets, they are watching tv.
calgoo··on Spain to expand internet blocks to tennis, golf, movies broadcasting times
No really.... more so when some giant multinational that is bribing (lobbying is just legalized bribes, lets use the real word for it) the politicians start to loose money. Then an exception will be made for them, and they will continue. What they really want is for Cloudflare and others to give in and police it for them.
calgoo··on Roblox devs now need a subscription to share their games freely
Exactly, this will marginalize the creators of tomorrow who might have picked this up and built something, will now hesitate and probably try to find something else to build on. The people building giant games full of "buy this crap" every 5 seconds, spamming my 6 year old with prompts, they will continue doing so.
calgoo··on Roblox devs now need a subscription to share their games freely
No this does not make sense for the platform. Roblox has some of that old Flash feel, where anyone can just create a game, no matter if you are 14 or 88. If you read the comments, most people are fine with the ID checks ( i would not, but fine) but are completely against the charging of a monthly subscription to publish games. All the people that would do it for fun, wont anymore now. Basically, the corporate greed machine has now turned the platform into a "professional" platform, where you pay-to-build.

As a side note, if someone is working on something similar, then now is the time to start talking about it! ;)
