c22··on Saying No
We don't really know what the concern was, because our sole narrator wasn't paying attention when it was voiced. However, if the "solution" was to keep one AC unit off while running the other one I could see there being a concern overtaxing the single running unit.
c22··on Saying No
The building's caretaker appeared to discuss the situation 5 minutes after OP disregarded the sign. I don't know that a phone number on the note would have changed anything.

I think sometimes commercial landlords will offer a below-market deal on a small space for an interesting concept with the idea that it will bring more foot traffic to the area and increase the value of their other holdings. Being off the main street adds some support for this motive.

I think at the end of each year that an officer didn't deploy their taser all year, they should get a bonus equal to $100 x [consecutive years of non-deployment]. The same incentive should be in place for discharging their firearm, except maybe x$1000.

You misunderstand Brazil--the system is the cause.

People can be relied upon to make mistakes. Any system that does not account for this fact and allows mistakes to "accelerate" is fundamentally flawed and requires redesign.

I think the critique was levied towards the notion of asking an ecologist to make a medical diagnosis of an individual based on a handful of tiktok clips rather than a stab at anyone's joy.

The url is literally popsci.com though so I'm not sure what gp expected.

I met someone from Seattle just yesterday who had not heard of it. I think anyone who doesn't live on the internet can be forgiven for not following this story.

c22··on Three ways people respond to a problem (other than solving it)
I think usually they say something like "I'd put it back but I'm late for my next appointment" or "I already buckled my kid in the car and I don't want to leave him," maybe some variation on "well they pay someone to come gather these up so I don't have to."

Identifying and distributing 100k to each homeless person would require many layers of bureaucracy.

As it should. It is not responsible to give millions of dollars in taxpayer funds to an intern and tell them to start passing it out to random people on the street.

You can keep paying your employee $23 right up until they start agitating for a raise (many never do), and often for some time beyond that.

Your AI employees will all cost more each year and you will have very little leverage over them.

Busses and trains get pretty good bang for the eco-buck. Oftentimes you can bring your bicycle with you for last-mile transportation at your destination city.
c22··on How we can reduce traffic congestion
If you drive the same route frequently you can definitely figure out which intersections/areas are improperly configured. There's a stretch of road I drive on several times a week where the speed limit was dropped from 40 to 30 a couple years ago, but the lights are all still timed for 40. If you speed you get a sea of green, but if you drive the new speed limit you end up stopping at half the lights.
