This line of reasoning is deeply flawed. If US tech companies are “making enormous amounts of money from your country’s populace”, then your country is getting something in return, e.g. access to Apples hardware products, amazons cloud, or googles search engine.

I guess it depends on what segment of society you exist in. I (born in the early 90s) was raised in a plastic-free lifestyle, and many of the people my family associates with are the same. We are staunch environmentalists though, so I guess my experience is not typical. So, I don’t know about “widespread”, but the current of thought has been present in the zeitgeist for decades.

A person with little or no technical background, that neither knows nor cares about AI (or other scientific/mathematical advancements) other than their potential to make the AI bro rich. There is a big overlap with crypto bros, and in fact many AI bros are just grifters who moved on after crypto tanked with the recent fed funds rate hikes.

Can you elaborate on the difficulties of setting up Java projects? I have never worked in Java at an enterprise level, but have tinkered a bit. IntelliJ makes setting up a maven-based project pretty much one-click. But I’m guessing that the complexity that you’re referring to wouldn’t be apparent to someone like me who is only using it for small hobby projects.

I agree with you in general, except for one important point - I think it will work again. Plenty of people will see through the lie, but enough will buy it that they’ll get their war.
