bureaucrat··on Microsoft President: Democracy Is At Stake. Regulate Big Tech
And what? Use ‘Linux desktop’? No thank you.
bureaucrat··on Microsoft President: Democracy Is At Stake. Regulate Big Tech
Regulate yourselves, FFS. I don’t want my paid operating system to send my private information constantly to your company.
bureaucrat··on Estimates that mineral levels in vegetables have dropped by up to 90% since 1914
From my experience they are. They gain a ton of weight, loses muscles, hair, skin softness, become weak, emotionally unstable and underproductive.

Almost all women experience menopause, and some lost their ability to reproduce.

Becoming a vegan and getting nutrients you need is especially hard and almost all vegans fail on that.

bureaucrat··on A Kubernetes/GKE mistake that cost me thousands of dollars
This.

I hope there will be some kind of option like ‘open this link in reader mode’.

bureaucrat··on Jsonbox.io – A Free HTTP Based JSON Storage
I’ve always had concerns about exposing MongoDB ObjectID to users.

Is it safe?

Or would rather spend $1000 to not rub and be rubbed against strangers.
bureaucrat··on Maturity
I’m on fast network, and it took at least 10 seconds(!) to load your link. I saw a loading circle under ‘assignee’ sidebar for like 7 seconds.

I was so shocked that I re-visited the page in incognito mode. 10+ seconds of waiting happened again.

Hope the improvement goes well.

bureaucrat··on Harvesting LinkedIn data for fun and profit
Don’t keep those bombs like Capital One hacker Paige Thompson did.

You might hit an extra jailtime jackpot.

bureaucrat··on Maturity
True, but gitlab already did that :(
bureaucrat··on Maturity
With those harsh comments being said, I use self hosted gitlab and I am thrilled to see your product improve.

Keep up the good work.

bureaucrat··on Maturity
Gitlab is slow. It’s so unbearably slow, even their official server. Guys, why should a static content load after page loading is done? Page loading done, and the code still loads with a loading circle. Why? Just compare it with github. Average 500ms makes a huge difference.

Also gitlab UI is a huge mess. It got all the features, sure. But the UI is not that user friendly. Don’t use flat the wrong way. Use contrasts for buttons PLEASE. Github is sort of flat and their interface is great with adequate use of contrasts.

bureaucrat··on Running GitHub on Rails 6.0
Can you elaborate on that? These Ruby praises makes me want to know more as I know only Django.
bureaucrat··on Running GitHub on Rails 6.0
How is Rails compared to Django?
bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
Nope, you got it wrong. Look at Venezuela.

If people can trust people they can trade. With crypto government trust can be replaced.

bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
That doesn’t matter. The billion is worthless if you can’t spend it. Spend 1$ from that wallet and your identity will be known.
bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
Theoretically crypto will never replace government backed currency if the world economy and politics is stable.

Look at Turkey. Venezuela. Argentina. China. North Korea. People are already not trusting government backed currency. I don’t mean to over generalize. I just want to say it’s not just a dream. It’s possible.

bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
Washing that little amount is more easy with just cash.

You leave all your trace. Unlike cash laundering. That’s what matters.

bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
Because governments could regulate this currency. With improving blockchain analysis technologies, they can watch, audit and impose tax.

The only thing lacking is the control by the government.

bureaucrat··on 94k Bitcoin (1B USD) transferred from unknown wallet to unknown wallet
Watching things like this, I think bitcoin could eventually replace the government-backed currency.

Everyone can watch them move. If you spend 1$ from that wallet to buy even a mars bar, your identity will be known to others. How CLEAN and clear is that?

bureaucrat··on Did Setting a Timeline Doom the Fight Against Global Warming?
Kek, in 1970 crude oil was predicted to run out in 2020. They also predicted the world will be inhabitable by now because of intense pollution.

How are we? We breathe cleaner air and use more petroleum than 1970.

I will be 55 in 2050, and I bet my entire fortune that the world will be better then.

>all that tracking, google services and integration has a LARGE cost, not just to your privacy!

Of all browsers I've reviewed recently, Firefox is one of the most active upon installation. I think it may be the only one to immediately collect telemetry data too.

bureaucrat··on I’m sick of Chrome eating all my RAM
Switched to Firefox a month ago. It was worse.

Since then I became more thankful of Chrome(Chromium to be exact).

bureaucrat··on Tell HN: Thank you for not redesigning Hacker News
Theoretically.

You can but no one manages to do that!

bureaucrat··on Survival Tips for Women in Tech (2018)

bureaucrat··on No CLI ads: Ad blocker for command line interface ads
Pretty much, yeah, because it’s a joke. You get jokes, right?

If you do a work that needs strict citations and not cite properly, your project itself could be at stake. No one will pay 10,000EUR to be questioned by the ethics board about their work.

bureaucrat··on No CLI ads: Ad blocker for command line interface ads
Telling people to cite their work, which is way different.
