bulbosaur123··on Artificial intelligence is permeating business at last
> Let's be clear - we're all obsessed with ChatGPT, but all it does is regurgitate existing works.

So like human beings?

bulbosaur123··on Pulling MikroTik into the Limelight Demystifying and Jailbreaking RouterS
Some guy yesterday was trying to crack this on /g/ board with ChatGPT. Search the threads archive and you might find something related to this code.

bulbosaur123··on The mid in fake midcentury modern
Wait, since when is 120m2 considered small for 3 bedrooms? That's quite a large apartment.
bulbosaur123··on The mid in fake midcentury modern
What if "beautiful buildings" are simply too expensive to build nowdays and there are cheaper alternatives that are functional, yet look sterile and boring? There is a reason almost nobody builds brick mansions anymore.
bulbosaur123··on The mid in fake midcentury modern
People are intimidated by beauty, that's why. Most can emphasize more with ugliness.
bulbosaur123··on Ask HN: How do we know ChatGPT is not a scam?
> It is a pile of biases masquerading as an intelligent agent.

Oh you mean like human beings.

bulbosaur123··on OpenAI ChatGPT: Optimizing language models for dialogue

Good poetry "hits different". Basically, it innovates and presents new similes, allegories and expressions that have peak emotional impact, meaning, the words are carefully chosen to create the highest amount of emotional resonance. Also, clichés cannot be present. It has to surprise the reader. If I say: "sky blue". That's bad poetry, because it's boring and predictable. If I say "skype blue" it is more memorable, since nobody before has ever used that before and it stands out. There is also the question of cadence. Basically, you will recognize good poetry when you see it due to how it resonates with your neural pathways related to speech and language centers.
bulbosaur123··on Good Old Fashioned AI is dead, long live New-Fangled AI
> Whenever something becomes cheaper (in this case, labor for art), its consumption increases. So in the future, because producing commercial art is so much cheaper, it will be consumed a lot more.

I have the opposite view. With lower barrier of entry it will get over-saturated, over-produced and consumers will suffer from content fatigue leading to less interest in AI generated media as a whole.

An analogy is luxury goods. Reducing price of luxury goods decreases demand for them.

bulbosaur123··on What to do if a nuclear disaster is imminent [pdf]
The reason this problem is so hard is because it's tragedy of the commons. That might just be our great filter.
bulbosaur123··on What to do if a nuclear disaster is imminent [pdf]
It seems that most of you are ignoring that there are plenty of actors out there that actively seek destruction and ways to promote it. It's not that people are stupid. Many people of power are both intelligent and actively evil, as in-- working against your interests of survival--especially when their positions are threatened.

In fact, in some rare scenarios, nuclear destruction might even make logical sense to someone in power. One such scenario is evening out the playing field when you are way behind everyone else in the race. Do you recall how playing the "Armageddon" card in certain scenarios of Worms could actually help you win?

Never say never.

bulbosaur123··on The enduring allure of Choose Your Own Adventure books
Stories are all about stirring emotions.

From two paths the story may take one will be less emotionally impactful than the other. Therefore, it will be suboptimal.

It also spoils the element of surprise. If you know exactly what is going to happen, it becomes less interesting. It also takes away from the character.

If you want user choice, create a video game.

bulbosaur123··on Cut the cutesy errors
Same goes for redditors who need to end their sarcastic messages with /s tag. Okay, so you passively assumed I am too much of an idiot to miss your sarcasm. I will always downvote these posts.

Agreed. I cringe every time.

> If you really believe that these habits would make anyone successful then you have to explain why everyone isn't doing it.

Everyone else isn't doing it, because it's really, really hard to stick to the habits.

Same reason why everyone else isn't walking with a ripped physique and six-pack. It's simple, just work out 3x a week and count your calories. Why isn't everyone shredded?
