Now you're talking about economics, and the morality question nobody wants to include in economics because then the wealthy just leave. And that's the key: the wealthy do not want any laws or boundaries on them, but they insist on them on us.

3D graphics is so much more than the basic transforms. Add in all the deformation systems blending together, and those often being physics driven off the animation. You all have seen modern VFX, right? That is not basic 4x4 transforms.

Your fixation on the rotation matrix == 3D graphics is not right
bsenftner··on What to learn to be a graphics programmer
A rotation matrix is but one of dozens and dozens of different types of basic transforms. It gets really fun with jacobian 12x12 matrix operations, and free form deformations. Which maps to ML far better than most imagine.

I was a technical artist for a series of feature films during the early '00s. At a good studio they'll have art and design classes for the tech origin staff and scripting and bash classes for the art origin staff. I was both, and that was a ton of fun.
bsenftner··on What to learn to be a graphics programmer
Graphics programming has this one very, very useful aspect, exponentially more valuable today: the matrix algebra pipelines, and then the requirement to 'think in matrix transforms' is a wonderful and visually engaging way to get your foundation for machine learning math.

bsenftner··on The disappearance of Japan's animators
Yes! Guns or their prior way of life destroyed by industrialized nations, it does not matter. We in our capitalistic drive exploited them, and now these economic slaves have no alternative. Yes! They prefer to make their own destinies, whatever they may be, through their own means with their own cultures. Not ours, not our corporate servitude.
bsenftner··on The disappearance of Japan's animators
That's a propaganda lie, ask how the Foxconn staff think about this, those that have suicide nets outside of their work skyscrapers. you're being a parrot for a culture of exploiters and punching downers.

For many, this is how they learn. They are experience learners, which is the vast majority. This overwhelming condemning of people learning, not being excellent first try, always comparing against the famous top tiers of everything is Lord Of The Flies. Fuck it: make slop, swim in slop, and emerge smarter. Condemn those experiencing and trying and learning is the stupid slop.
bsenftner··on The disappearance of Japan's animators
Full automation of in-betweening was achieved during the 70's, I was there, it was a big deal, and then nobody used it. Interpolation animation, splines and vector morphing are all versions of that tech. The automation is in-betweens is how modern animation software works, but a lot people want 3D characters, 3D views, and the freedom to change perspectives after beginning. So "in-betweening" is now used more for the creation of certain motions that either cannot be motion captured, or are some signature motion for that character and the motion is designed - and that will be in-betweens for the motions between key poses, but those are all 3D motions, so different views can be chosen later. Even if the final production will appear to be 2D hand drawn, it is 3D production beneath, and our original in-betweening method at the individual joint level within an articulated body.

Capitalism's core aspect is exploitation, of course this is the result. Capitalism, that "nothing can beat this economic system" winner is a winner because it is immoral, folks. It is based on exploiting those with no alternative. Of course this decimation of competing participants is part of its core operation. Capitalism is a controlled conflict. It is slow violence.
bsenftner··on No-One Escapes the Permanent Underclass
It's thinking like this that guarantees one becomes a member of the underclass. We've developed a technology that with active critical analysis this can teach one practically anything. Rather than saying "well, let's get on teaching critical analysis!" we have the vast majority shouting the sky is falling and they are sure glad to be retiring soon. SMH.

bsenftner··on Journalism is rearranging the deckchairs. It needs to reinvent itself
I love LA TACO, I used to trade online comments with Ivan Fernandez, their editor at large, when I lived in Los Angeles. Him and Lalo Alcaraz, myself and a few others used to lament the journalism situation when running into one another at LA social events, like at The Brewery or Big Art Labs.
bsenftner··on Journalism is rearranging the deckchairs. It needs to reinvent itself
Journalism today is a joke. More like 'what journalism? that heavy manipulative gossip masquerading as journalism?'

Until society as a whole recognizes the value of managing disagreement and the discussion of controversy without emotion, journalism is a losing proposition because it will always be more profitable to cater to the larger emotional reasoning population. Until the rational percentage of society is large enough to drive, we're in this emotionally driven circus for the duration.

bsenftner··on Dirty Little Zine – a tool for making an 8 page printable Zine
These days they tend to be single sheets of paper folded to look like a small 8 page book. That's the modern cute version. "Back in the day" - meaning the 70's and 80's a 'zine was a mimeographed or photocopied hand made full sized magazine, typically on what we'd call cheap printer paper today.

They were punk rock expressions, with large amounts of collage art, mix media art + poetry, and amateur fiction, and sometimes fan fiction. It was creative expression for people with no outlet: the punks, angry about economics. If you think punk was about music, that's the lie, it was about dead end careers.

bsenftner··on CTOs Agree: Cognitive Debt Is the New Technical Debt
Nobody wants to hear anyone's opinion but their own, we have a poverty of effective communications.

Nobody wants to communicate because it is pointless to communicate: what you say will be misunderstood, it will be repeated incorrectly and attributed to you, people will play games with your messaging and with you for trying to communicate.

The management bully game activates, and they all participate in keeping the engineer down.

This is normal at every engineering organization, it is lord of the flies.

And this is how we educate people, This situation is created. All because we refuse to recognize that learning how to debate controversy and learning how to manage disagreement is completely unrecognized as a valued skill.

So we avoid controversy and any disagreement is an opportunity to bully and force one's way. Which is completely avoidable, with basic effective communications training. Debate to understand, disagree to learn.

It is how I write. This is what happens when one gets 7 college degrees, people accuse you of writing with AI. I've even been accused of rehearsing AI for how I talk; no, that is how I talk.
bsenftner··on Iroh 1.0
I will, thank you.
bsenftner··on Iroh 1.0
A technical writing class is learning the alphabet, and does not really touch the nuance, the subtleties in certain topics that make them very difficult to communicate.

Any topic with unknown aspects (to the audience) or controversy require special handling because in that uncertainty people's personalities step in, and that is the seed of misunderstandings becoming institutionalized.

When an individual has gained group prestige from their "theory" being accepted, they then guard that prestige with omissions of information that counteract their position, and deferment of blame when proved incorrect. This is the ordinary human response, and will play out unless the participants have formal communications training that break this pedestrian cycle.

Communications is far more than just "communicating with another". Self communications is the gargantuan invisible elephant yet to be realized by larger society, and is the source of gullibility. Group communications has fractal complexities that play out depending on how many participants are trying to collaborate, and their relative hierarchical power verses one another. Entire careers are spent identifying the categories, and this area is largely unexplored, unexamined. It's too interpersonal and laced with extreme levels of power for honest analysis.

And then there is AI: a communications technology that people think is an automation technology, and our colossal communications tragedy is not going to correct this misunderstanding.

bsenftner··on U.S. science is in chaos
It is far worse than "this administration", the population in general are vastly undereducated, to the degree they do not even realize how serious this is.

There has been a massive, decades long educational failure in the United States, and probably the entire western hemisphere of culture: no where are people taught how to manage disagreement. due to that, we have this moronic destruction taking place where "idiots of authority" see no reason not to dismantle anything that irritates them, and nobody has the langage to explain nor the peer power to stop the desolation of our entire supporting infrastructure. All because idiots of power do not like being told and proved they are wrong. So, power removed the education that taught people how to debate without emotions, and here we are.

That amazement is due to one of our largest and least realized critical mistakes as a civilization: no where are people taught how to effectively communicate. We have entire Colleges of Communications at every university, and what do they teach? How to execute mass manipulation, not how to convey understanding, not how to manage disagreements. These are not "mistakes" either, this distinct lack of teaching real communications is how society is maintained manipulative. And the worst part, many of you will read this and not understand, because you've not been taught the communications insights to grasp this message.

I'm sure many have made something like this, I've done a few. I've found simply submitting one's prompt to multiple models to be kind of pointless. You're just going to get statistical noise from the variances in their training methods, as they are all training on pretty much the same data.

I get significantly better results by pre-prompting each LLM (they can be the same LLM too, just another instance), I pre-prompt them to approach from a different perspective. Basically, I create expert personas that each believe they are someone of a different career, different intellectual perspectives, and then that generates a real debate between experts.

bsenftner··on I'm Eric Ries, author of "The Lean Startup" and new book "Incorruptible" – AMA
Eric,

Serious question: I find that the core issue in corruption, and the corruptibility of an individual and then the groups they are a member relies on plain spoken communication skills, and the ability or inability of an individual to protect themselves from self deception.

A "uncorrupt person" does not choose to be corrupt, they lie to themselves with little corruptions until "it is too late" and then with no (self assessed) alternative they commit to their situation.

As well as a group of people knowingly engaged in less than ethically honest activities must impress their ethical failures on all their peers, to insure their safety if the corruption is exposed, and they then bully their uncomprehending peers into corruption.

All of this is caused to the educational hole that is effective communications: people are not taught how to identify honest and dishonest self conversation, people are not taught how to communicate without information mistakes they refuse are mistakes, omissions of critical information, and then deferment of blame when half considered strategies are met by complex reality.

I've been working in tech, at all levels, since the 70's. The #1 characteristic of every single organization I have been a member and interacted with is poor communications, weak documentation, and nobody able to discuss the topics at hand without technical pretension, omissions, misdirections, and misinformation.

This nonsense is all due to no real emphasis on communicating to mutual understanding anywhere in the verticals of technical and science educations. And that includes the communications in people's heads that drive them to comforting non-solutions they attempt and fail.
