brosirmandude··on Cryptocurrencies are the tulip mania of the 21st century
There are a few altcoins out there focusing on ease of use and trying to bring in users/early adopters who are not just crypto-junkies. The ones I can think off of the top of my head are:

- DASH (Digital Cash)

- Vertcoin

- NAVcoin

Of those, DASH is probably the most likely in my opinion to eventually challenge bitcoin or ETH.

That's really interesting. Did you guys ever test adding a fundraising link in the top comment you post vs a users top comment?
brosirmandude··on Before Silicon Valley, New Jersey Reigned As Nation's Center Of Innovation
Interesting seeing this story this morning, my company recently moved into the old Bell Labs building. Now called Bell Works, it does actually look like it's going to become a hub of new tech companies in the area.

It's pretty humbling to walk into this giant building every day knowing some of the amazing things that were invented here.

brosirmandude··on Show HN: CakeResume – Drag and drop resume snippets to build a unique resume
Given the name I really thought this was going to be a service that puts your resume onto a cake and sends that cake to a company you want an interview at.
brosirmandude··on Theorem of the Day
This is really interesting, but my heart hurts at the SEO value lost in having the main content be all PDFs. Not that there's really a NEED to have all of this crawl-able & indexable by search engines, but it could probably reach a whole lot more people if it was.
brosirmandude··on Nintendo is up 35% on Pokemon Go success
I'm imagining a future where there are multiple location based games and local businesses will need a way to keep track of all the games and which ones drive foot-traffic.

I'm also imagining a startup that manages all of a businesses "in game" listings so they don't have to deal with going in and out of apps all day.

brosirmandude··on RIP Google PageRank score: A retrospective on how it ruined the web
This is definitely what is happening. I work in SEO and follow the industry closely, but the SEO industry itself is a giant echo-chamber. But essentially what it boils down to is:

- make something your audience wants

- make content your audience wants to share

- "earn" links by creating useful resources & content

Essentially, the way to get great rankings in Google is by actually having a website that people want to go to and is relevant to their interests. Trying to game the system is much harder these days, and honestly for the most part isn't worth the effort.

brosirmandude··on Thumbtack Raises $125M at a $1.3B Valuation
8 or so leads a day is roughly ~2700 leads per year. A $20k budget means you can spend about $7.50/lead. Depending on your niche that is likely going to be difficult to do with adwords alone.

Again depending on your niche, Thumbtack might actually be good here. In my experience though Thumbtack is very hit or miss from the businesses side of things. If you're spending $5-$10 just to send an email to single potential customer it might not be cost effective.

brosirmandude··on Show HN: TipperCoin - Send Bitcoins over Twitter
Cryptocurrency tipping culture is really interesting to me. I can't think of another culture or system that encourages people giving away small amounts of money because they like something you said or just because they feel like it. I can see tipping becoming huge on Facebook and Twitter. And possibly even as a pseudo payments system for services like Pinterest.
brosirmandude··on He got 1%, we can't hire him
If you don't mind me asking, where would one begin searching for employment at a company such as the one you used to work at?
