brighton36··on An analysis of Bitcoin's throughput bottlenecks
Where did you get these numbers? I assume this is a post-hoc rationalization?
brighton36··on An analysis of Bitcoin's throughput bottlenecks
You'll note that my comment was downvoted. This evidence is immoral. Thus, it won't be aired.

You can go to pandaanalytics.com if you'd like, and play with their index options. See what strategies have worked well. (I weight by market cap, top-10, no stablecoins)

Meanwhile, crypto indexers beat Bitcoin maximalists. But, the evidence for indexing performance will never see the light of day . :)
brighton36··on Just Say No to Paxos Overhead: Replacing Consensus with Network Ordering (2016)
These consensus systems are usually solutions in search of a problem. It's pretty rare for these consensus systems to offer an efficiency in practice...
brighton36··on *.ycombinator.com Terms of Use
Absolutely. I think that's how we got here. But, the thought regulation regime is pretty new historically. I don't know why we accept it, on the basis.... That thoughts ... Take up space?

You'll notice though, that the term 'intellectual property' wasn't invented until the (roughly) mid 20th century. After which time, copyright and patent law were affixed to this construction. There was no intellectual property, prior. I would politely suggest that this piece is a post-hoc justification, based on the ignorance of this arrangement. (Because the author, like all humans, is morally ambiguous. Intellectual property was an assumption going into this piece)

Copy rights, are not property. Patents are monopoly licenses.

Information is not property. That's the postmodern nonsense. Property takes up space. These are mostly thoughts being controlled under the rubric of property

Why anyone has the authority to compel public expectations based on the arrangement of bits.
brighton36··on Canada Proposes New Regime to Block and Deindex Pirate Sites
I'm increasingly sure we'll need to drop out of society, in order to fix it. Just walk away from the city, find a place (maybe outside the USA/Canada) and work on building a village with it's own spirit, and without the federal charters intruding. If you're not inclined to make that sacrifice, then, I think the beatings will continue.

brighton36··on Amazon workers vote against unionizing in Alabama
I get the impression that most people download their opinions from whatever pa system is loudest and closest to them. Perhaps that explains this...
brighton36··on YouTube Kids a “vapid wasteland” say US lawmakers
This is a perfectly well-reasoned and responsible comment. I have no doubt that's what will make it unsuitable for upvoting.
brighton36··on Barrier Reef doomed as up to 99% of coral at risk, report finds
I'm pretty sure that's what got us into this mess.

brighton36··on NFTs unbundle ownership from enjoyment
The Internet has become a gigantic repository of post-hoc rationalizations. Its pieces like this, that make me wonder if maybe the library of alexandria would have actually been far less interesting that we thought....
brighton36··on As Bad Information Spreads, Florida Schools Seek to Teach 'Digital Literacy'
I like you. Including your username. I'm surprised your comments aren't down voted more. They're honest. People don't seem to like that these days.
brighton36··on In Stockholm there's currently an IT battle underway
Government procurement is fundamentally broken, in the software world. The incentives of procurement seems to ensure that the worst software is produced, at a significantly greater cost than free alternatives. I blame this on the rise of administrative costs in the universities (which trickle into enterprise) and the inherent disagreeableness (with outsiders) amongst the price's law coalition.
brighton36··on Roads Are Getting Deadlier for Pedestrians
"There are no facts, only interpretations". It could just as easily be the case that people with black hair are more affected than people with white hair, if that was the taxonomy we applied to the dataset.
brighton36··on Multiple US Navy destroyers swarmed by mysterious 'drones' off California coast
I've wondered a lot about whether these uavs aren't more powerful than a lot of our fighter jets. I guess it's inappropriate to talk about scenarios where they could be deployed to cause great harm. But, it doesn't take much thinking to imagine the efficacy of a well placed uav, and the small difficulty it would be to conceal one of these in an adversarial country.
brighton36··on The pandemic has changed the shape of global happiness
If you don't believe the policy is legitimate, then, it's altruistic. (Because you're justly defying tyranny) There is no objectively good determination here.
brighton36··on How Politics Tested Ravelry and the Crafting Community
I think this is the problem that 'original sin' fixed. It seems that everyone believes they themselves are good. And thus, they know what's good. But, I doubt that any of us are good. And I don't think good objectively exists, in any case.

Its probable that everything you've ever heard about crypto, is a post-hoc justification. That 'number go up' is the result we all want. And anything that's said about the matter, was said because 'number go up' is the technology behind blockchain.

It could also be that there's a demographic of parents at that school that doesn't know that, the function of the school, is to teach the kids that 'better' students deserve opportunity.
