briefcomment··on Longitudinal analysis shows durable immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection
That's a strawman. Can you instead address this particular bucket: people who have had Covid, and are now wondering if they are as immune as they can hope for, considering all other available interventions.
briefcomment··on Longitudinal analysis shows durable immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection
It's available and getting cheaper pretty quickly. Hopefully others can chime in, seems like a promising path to take.
briefcomment··on Longitudinal analysis shows durable immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection
Ok, doctors would not administer steroids for long term use for minor pain, that would be unethical and highly dangerous (except they do, from first hand experience)
briefcomment··on Longitudinal analysis shows durable immune memory after SARS-CoV-2 infection
I think GP is referring to the fact that boosters are being pushed, which implies vaccine immunity is not persistent. It has certainly been pushed since when that study was published.
briefcomment··on WeWork Book: The $10T Mirage
I really like the idea of having more comfortable common spaces, and I would have no problem paying a fee for that. I miss being able sit in my college library's beautiful reading room any time I want. I guess WeWork's initial execution was bad, but I hope the general industry succeeds.
briefcomment··on WeWork Book: The $10T Mirage
I don't know much about Axios, but I thought they tended towards impartial fact-based reporting, and I'm surprised at the emotionally charged language in this article

> "chronicling the wiles and humiliation of Adam Neumann, WeWork's day-drinking co-founder, former CEO, and chief snake-oil salesman"

briefcomment··on Whistleblowers expose corruption in EPA Chemical Safety Office
I like PurpleAir's crowdsourced air quality map[1]. Their sensors are one of the few that get down to the .3 micrometer level.

briefcomment··on On Apple’s “Expanded Protections for Children” – A Personal Story
In case you hadn't heard this story, all PinePhones in a recent batch of shipments were redirected to NewZealand, regardless of their final destination [1]. Some people were suggesting that this could mean they were possibly tampered with.

briefcomment··on Vaccination Should Be Compulsory
I don't think we can conclude natural immunity and vaccine immunity would result in the same outcomes. Vaccines wouldn't exist if we thought that being vaccinated and not being vaccinated resulted in the same thing. If those differences exist, it's not outlandish to think there may be differences in evolved virulence and severity too. That's certainly conjecture too though.
briefcomment··on Vaccination Should Be Compulsory
> There is plenty of contra evidence to suggest that vaccination is extremely effective at keeping people from getting very ill.

This does not in itself suggest anything about transmissibility, which is what GP is referring to.

briefcomment··on Vaccination Should Be Compulsory
That's conjecture. A conclusion from this study[1] is that vaccines correlate with dominance of fitter variants. That suggests that it's possible that vaccines allow them to propagate.

"the decline in lineage diversity was indeed correlated with increased rates of mass vaccination. Furthermore, the decline in lineage diversity was coupled with increased dominance of the B.1.1.7 (alpha), B.1.1.617 (delta) and P.1 (gamma) variants of concern, suggesting that these variants may be “fitter” SARS-CoV-2 lineages.”

briefcomment··on Vaccination Should Be Compulsory
I don't know why you would equate seatbelts and vaccines, when with one you are requiring people to add a foreign material into their bodies. Seems like a terrible comparison. I'm sure there are many people who oppose compulsory vaccination but would be ok with mandatory seatbelts.
briefcomment··on Vaccination Should Be Compulsory
Are you willing to be sued for the psychological and physiological distress your comment caused me? Doubt it. Get over yourself and stop telling others what they should be doing.
briefcomment··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
I'm not sure I'm getting your second sentence.
briefcomment··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
Seems like that is also up for debate. In this CDC study[1], 74% of cases were in the vaccinated. Probably around 69% of the population were vaccinated, meaning the fact that more than 69% of the cases were in the vaccinated suggests that the vaccinated were even more susceptible than the unvaccinated. I'm sure there are plenty of considerations with this study, but it certainly isn't glaringly obvious that vaccination reduces susceptibility.

briefcomment··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
Still means it's comparably transmissible right?
briefcomment··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
So the vaccine is for people who want to protect themselves against a serious reaction. Makes the case for vaccination far less compelling than what most people believe.
briefcomment··on NYC to mandate proof of vaccination for many indoor settings
This implies that getting the vaccine for the sake of others is far more pointless than we thought right? This would make getting the vaccine a much more personal matter, rather than a societal one.
briefcomment··on Israel tries to limit fallout from the Pegasus spyware scandal
So Pegasus is a non-story right, since she's been reporting on that for years now?
briefcomment··on It looks like the Batmobile, works on solar, and could be the future of cars
I love that this is so light and that the tires are low friction. Would result in a big reduction in non-emission based particulate matter.
briefcomment··on How to summon and sell your soul to Satan and other devils
What does that have to do with this other book?
briefcomment··on How to summon and sell your soul to Satan and other devils
That makes sense. So the majority of us are already zombies
briefcomment··on Six corporations control 90% of America media
If you believe everyone who thinks the lab leak is viable also believes in lizard men, I'm not sure what to say.
briefcomment··on Six corporations control 90% of America media
People hear the word "conspiracy" and are already on the opposite side before hearing any arguments. It's like they're terrified of having the wrong thoughts. Don't worry, we haven't reached the mind reading flavor of conspiratorial dystopia yet.
briefcomment··on Six corporations control 90% of America media
I think you didn't read all of gp's post.
briefcomment··on Jeffrey Epstein Got Away with It
I thought we have a lack of any evidence. No witnesses, no footage.
briefcomment··on 74% of recent Covid cases in parts of MA were among the vaccinated – CDC study
I'm not saying there should be mutations. Just that if there are mutations, it's not clear whether the vaccinated or unvaccinated would be stronger drivers of it.
briefcomment··on Six corporations control 90% of America media
Yup, I've weaned myself from all of the brands they listed, except for when I consume certain news via an aggregator like HN.
briefcomment··on 74% of recent Covid cases in parts of MA were among the vaccinated – CDC study
This seems like a straightforward study.
briefcomment··on 74% of recent Covid cases in parts of MA were among the vaccinated – CDC study
You mean by freeing up hospital beds? That's orders of magnitude less of a benefit than stopping exponential contagious spread, so not nearly as compelling of a reason.
