brennannovak··on Mailpile Alpha Release: Shipping Bits and Atoms
Brennan here from the Mailpile Team. Thank you for your critique. The other team members and I would love to hear a more substantial justification of how we lack "depth and sophistication" to tackle this problem.
brennannovak··on Mailpile Alpha Release: Shipping Bits and Atoms
Designer here. The responsiveness is being worked on (alpha release).

Curious about the clicking to expand msgs comment- this standard UI behavior in Gmail as well!

brennannovak··on Mailpile Alpha Release: Shipping Bits and Atoms
Designer here. Great feedback- will work on this soon ;)
brennannovak··on App.net Response to Brennan Novak, part II
I think it's pretty great that Dalton implemented all his promises and then some!
brennannovak··on Visualizing discussions on Reddit with a D3 network and Embedly
Yes! I second this motion!
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Thanks! I'm working on fixing mobile rendering ASAP :)
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Wow, that's a useful comment. Thanks.
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Hey topherwhite I'm the UI/UX designer of Mailpile- totally aware of the poor rendering on mobile at present. Working on fixing that- was swamped with other aspects of the campaign launch. Thanks for your feedback :)
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Mailpile UI/UX designer here- thanks for the "feedback" I guess... What bothers you about our current logo, specifically?
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Firstly, the centralized cloud webmail companies (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) by giving people the ability to self host their email with an awesome webmail solution! ~Mailpile Designer
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Thanks for your feedback! We definitely would like to build native (mobile) apps for Mailpile- small (and important) steps, first though :)
brennannovak··on Mailpile: Let’s take email back
Hi there. I'm the UI/UX designer on the Mailpile team. Making every aspect of MP easy for non-techies is my primary concern. We aim to be easier than Wordpress with our Alpha release in Jan 2014. Please give me any feedback concerns with out to achieve this goal :)
brennannovak··on NeoCities
Those have significant learning curves to people who don't speak web-l337 yet. Remember before you knew how to code? What version control was, and documentation was scary? Angelfire & GeoCities is where I learned to code HTML
brennannovak··on NeoCities
I am interested to see where this goes!
brennannovak··on Coinpunk - Run your own Bitcoin wallet service
I think the author meant that part as a joke- he's my friend and not actually a PBR drinking fixed gear riding hipster.
brennannovak··on Crowd-sourced Music Video
WOW! This is absolutely incredible. I can't believe no one up voted it here!
brennannovak··on Bitcoin: The Cyberpunk Cryptocurrency
Really great and easy to understand slideshow about the history of currencies and how they work all in relation to how Bitcoin fits into the worlds current monetary systems / problems!
brennannovak··on Preparing for the Collapse of Digital Civilization
Perhaps most relevant to this issues is the social networking sites that are large data silos owned by private companies. There is much movement towards a more open, decentralized, and federated social web. Indie Web Camp is an interesting group of people (which I proudly belong to) who care about and are building tools to this pursuit - http://indiewebcamp.com
brennannovak··on Providing APIs for content-driven websites
This makes a tremendous amount of sense on many levels. Having to write screen scrappers for the vast array of HTML / Content layouts on the web is an very tiresome task. Think of all the cool services like Instapaper, Evernote, etc... that would have been considerably easier to build should something like this exist!
brennannovak··on Formlabs: High Resolution 3D Printer
There was a really great project called Maker Factory that was geared towards this http://makerfactory.com seemed to never quite get the community it needed to take off
brennannovak··on Why We Support App.net
Read Dalton's response http://daltoncaldwell.com/a-response-to-brennan-novak the only thing missing is the free user invites and open source codebase, however someone has already made an iOS app to the platform https://github.com/sneakyness/AppApp
brennannovak··on Why We Support App.net
A large amount of App.net has has been built and I've tested it out- it works great https://alpha.app.net Additionally, in the past I used to use PicPlz and iMeem, so i know the quality of products Dalton has engineered.
brennannovak··on Why We Support App.net
invite to where?
brennannovak··on Bank Simple vs. ING Direct
Nice comparison- and having been an ING Direct customer since 2004 immediately thought about Simple "Oh, it's a more pretty interfaced ING, with waaaaay less functionality"
brennannovak··on Here's Why People Are Backing App.net
With enough (and the right kind of) clients a "Centralized" service could be seen as distributor to independent nodes. From there, with the right archiving / sharing features of those "clients" those independent nodes can start to become a decentralized service. The internet itself relies on centralized DNS standards organization & servers. To me, App.net (and their commitment to users being customers instead of a product) represents a move in this direction.
brennannovak··on Here's Why People Are Backing App.net
Definitely! That would be an interesting experiment!
brennannovak··on Here's Why People Are Backing App.net
What bothers me the most about Twitter is how, with a few sharp blows, they've destroyed the 3rd party client / app market which was perhaps the most amazing aspect of Twitter and it's surrounding culture when I first started using it in 2008

This is excellent news!
brennannovak··on Livestream gets into hardware & launch encoding device
