breadbreadbread··on NFT's aren't the answer to the problems of digital art
Fashion houses burning clothes to maintain image and Dabeers creating a diamond cartel are not good. Im not saying that artifical scarcity doesnt exist, im saying that its bad and we shouldnt build economies around it.

For digital art vs physical art, there is a clear difference between "there will only ever be one mona lisa" and "I am not going to press cntrl-c cntrl-v on this image license"

"designer clothes, luxury watches, and fancy cars" all have understandable limits to production and have genuine scarcity (even if that scarcity is strictly controlled). NFTs have artificial scarcity... for little to no purpose other than monetary gain. Generally I am against the concept of artificial scarcity in any industry.

I couldnt get through this article because it is so uncaring towards unhoused and struggling people.

Just to be clear, Landlords and Home Owners aren't the same. I do live in a coastal city, but I think even rural/suburban areas would agree that the real estate market has made home ownership less and less achievable. I suppose that the issue I'm concerned with is more generally about the American real estate market at large, landlords/the rent cycle are just a part of that.

This isn't a division invented by me. It is a division that is put in place by those with money and power. You are talking about a fictional company with a "Great CEO" and employees are "pretty happy" with their position and pay. Even with your platonic ideal of what a "Great CEO" is, you'd have a hard time justifying the pay gap between bottom rung workers and C-suite

We do have an abundance of housing. There are millions of empty homes/housing units. Housing redistribution would involve cracking down on the landlord class to release those homes from exploitative pricing and rental strategies.

The wealthy dont create products. Working class people do. It is a brain worm that has convinced you that the managerial class deserve to be rich but the working class dont

Economics actually does care about your feelings and dreams. Its the study of how people spend money. People's individual values effects their spending habits, what they are willing to work for, and what businesses they start. Its literally a social science.

That said I also dont really agree with this video. I think it enforces a bootstraps-like view on how people should adapt.

Frankly I think we need a more empathetic economic system that rewards but does not demand entrepreneurship, and that values worker autonomy above all else.

If the cost of labor goes up, increasing the consumer cost of goods (inflation) is only one way of offsetting that labor cost. That cost can also be offset by A) Reducing shareholder profits B) reducing management profits C) government subsidies D) reducing capacity.

Companies in America are incredibly top-heavy, and a more stable economy could emerge if those resources at the top are distributed down to the worker. If implemented properly, UBI could push companies to share more of those profits with their workers without affecting the buyer.

Additionally capital generates more social value when it circulates (when its being spent) vs when it is stagnant (when it sits in a bank). Even if things are more expensive, more people having access to things allows local economies to grow
