brandensilva··on Oracle hit hard in Wall Street's tech sell-off over its AI bet
That's the point of having a government for the people by the people.

But when you let billionaires take over that too then the people have zero protections from exploitation.

If they cared they would invest in America paying more taxes, ensuring citizens are educated and capable of leading their companies versus offshoring and even competing with them.

They don't want that and prefer their monopolies instead.

brandensilva··on Oracle hit hard in Wall Street's tech sell-off over its AI bet
I've never been a fan of Oracle to begin with given my love for open source but after Larry Ellison is out there preaching about a surveillance state America he became a "person I can ignore" to a "person a despise".
brandensilva··on Neros has raised $121M to build military drones
Yeah I think people are underestimating drones here.

There is a reason this administration is fast tracking drone production and easing up on procurement. Some stuff doesn't need super sophisticated systems with traditional processes to get off the ground quickly with a cheap swarm approach.

It's probably the only thing I can agree with this administration on.

With that said America would be doing both drone swarms and advanced missile systems where they are most effective.

brandensilva··on Replacement.ai
And that comes down to the moral and social contract we have and the power we give to digital money and who owns it.

We either let the peoples creativity and knowledge be controlled and owned by a select few OR we ensure all people benefit from humanities creativity and own it. And the fruits that it bears advance all of humanity. Where their are safety nets in place to ensure we are not enslaved by it but elevated to advance it.

brandensilva··on Replacement.ai
I would hope that people realize that money in itself is merely digits on a computer and that the real power of this stuff belongs to the people since the AI inherited and learned from us.

I know that's a simplification but we uphold this contract that controls us. The people get to decide how this plays out and as much as I'm hopeful we excel into a world that is more like star trek, that skips over the ugly transition that could succeed or fail to get us there.

But we aren't that far off of a replicator if our AI models become so advanced in an atomic compute world they can rearrange atoms into new forms. It seemed fiction before but within reach of humanity should we not destroy ourselves.

brandensilva··on Replacement.ai
The problem isn't the failure of the mathematicians and engineers who succeeded at the task of automating humanities mundane tasks in life.

It's that the people failed to elect and wield a government that ensures all humanity benefits from it and not a select few who control it all.

And I think it will become clear that the governments that are investing in it to benefit their people who have ownership versus the ones who invest in it to benefit just a handful of the rich are the ones who will keep society stable while this happens.

The other path we are going down is you will have mass unrest, move into a police state to control the resistance like America is doing now, and be exactly what Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, and Larry Ellison want with AI driven surveillance and Orwellian dystopian vision forcing people to comply or be cut out of existence deactivating their Digital IDs.

brandensilva··on Britain jumps into bed with Palantir in £1.5B defense pact
Yeah I'm not excited about the future anymore. I used to have hopes America would try to usher in a better era but the opposite is happening where the shift is towards profits over people. A select few at the top who break laws is accepted while the rest are forced with even less rights. This goes beyond politics now but it is impossible for people to stop the infighting and look up who is causing all the problems.
brandensilva··on Digg.com is back
Kevin Rose must be on that hype train again. I've been on Reddit for 17 years since the Digg crash. All they had to do was not screw it up for many of us and we wouldn't be at this reinvent stage.
brandensilva··on MCP is eating the world
As a developer the hype is over the top for sure, but for the average marketer or influencer I can see how it is warranted.

Now if there is a good way to deal with authentication and authorization piece without agents gone wild that would excite me as a dev a lot more at this point.

brandensilva··on Las Vegas is embracing a simple climate solution: More trees
60k trees in 25 years also seems woefully insufficient.

brandensilva··on Moody’s strips U.S. of triple-A credit rating
Incompotent populist is certainly right for this group since none of his policies are actually for the population but for the very elite group he protects who stand to benefit the most from his policies.
brandensilva··on Moody’s strips U.S. of triple-A credit rating
I think the real reason is a Walmart heir put out an ad encouraging people to be civically responsible which Trump admin saw as defiance to him. Plus I assume they aren't bribing Trump like the tech bros are.
brandensilva··on Confessions about my smart home
I can attest to getting overwhelmed with it.

There are some automations I've setup that I never have issues with. Perhaps my most reliable being around lights. Not surprising the hue lights work the best. Also my hardwired locally controlled garage doors

There are some that if the power goes out I gotta log back in. Cloud is often a pain.

If it isn't on my dashboard I forget about it.

I've talked to professional installers or resellers and found similar issues with control 4 and other systems so it isn't a unique problem to Home Assistant.

This stuff gets ugly because of how complicated it is to setup, deal with multiple protocols, lack of standards or too many standards, unreliable devices, breaking changes with updates and more.

brandensilva··on Coinbase says hackers bribed staff to steal customer data, demanding $20M ransom
We are getting zero government regulations on AI, no punishment data breaches, and no human protections against wide scale abuse. The opposite is happening.

I suspect to see America in chaos from these disruptions in the very near future.

brandensilva··on The Enshittification of Tech Jobs
When all this happens you cannot help but see that populism will need to rise again from the ashes as a class warfare is under way as the article points out.

The current administration will consider any action against billionaires as domestic terrorism as witnessed with Tesla's recent boycotts despite this happening all around the world against American's richest companies. Much of America is in the denial phase right now but the writing is on the wall already.

I'm willing to bet most people don't want to work in factories again with Chinese conditions even as Secretary of Commerce Lutnick professes it so but the mega corporations demand the corporate security along with the obvious national security reasons for detaching from China.

As billionaires lust to take more of the pie without one ounce of support or laws or worker rights, against AI that enshittifies jobs and turns white collar work into a race towards the bottom, the populist class has no choice but to fight this head on.

As the government and businesses use AI to target the resistance as they take away rights, benefits, and standards of living you have to ask ourselves what side of history you want to be on because history shows these things tend to come to a massive clash. Power vs the people. Rights vs profits. Morality vs corruption.

We live in revolutionary times, thanks for the article share.

brandensilva··on We fell out of love with Next.js and back in love with Ruby on Rails
We have been moving to localized cache stores and there aren't any client side loaders anymore outside of the initial cache generation. Think like Linear, Figma, etc

It just depends on what you are after. You can completely drop the backend, apis, and have a real time web socketed sync layer that goes direct to the database. There is a row based permissions layer still here for security but you get the idea.

The client experience is important in our app and a backend just slows us down we have found.

brandensilva··on I thought I bought a camera, but no DJI sold me a license to use it [video]
It's been awhile since the populist has risen up and demanded the government actually do their jobs rather than get rich and catering to the rich coasting on the destruction of our privacies, rights, institutions, and freedoms.

The fact nearly zero legislation has been introduced to punish companies for violating the protection of our data with the bazillions of data leaks is telling of which master they serve.

brandensilva··on Doge Is Building a Master Database to Surveil and Track Immigrants
I would guess this extends beyond immigrants at this point given all the data they have mined from the government
brandensilva··on US Government threatens Harvard with foreign student ban
Extortion is Trump's favorite tactic. He's been punishing Maine for standing up to him. The law firms too. Soon the democrats when he can get past deporting the criminal U.S citizens.

I don't think it's unreasonable to say people are the only option to change our trajectory. We haven't reached critical mass yet, but the next national protest is April 19th which lands on the 250th revolutionary war anniversary. Be there or be square.

brandensilva··on US Government threatens Harvard with foreign student ban
We are only 3 months in, they are going for the giants first.
brandensilva··on U.S. and El Salvador Say They Won't Return Man Who Was Mistakenly Deported
April 19th is the next national protest. I've been going to fight for the constitution, due process, and rule of law since this all began.

The time isn't 2 years from now to change this at mid terms. There won't be a free place to speak or protest by then yet alone a free election system at the pace this is happening.

I hope others will join.

brandensilva··on The problem with "vibe coding"
The funny thing is someone somewhere will find a way to make millions off a vibe coded project. I just suspect it will be the outlier and they will be well positioned to make that happen.

And for the rest of the companies that embrace the 30%~ efficiency spike, it will just accelerate our work goals faster.

I like to use it on stuff that we wanna do to enhance the UX but rarely sees the light of day. Plus my wrists have never felt so good since replacing boring syntax choirs with LLMs.

brandensilva··on Trump's Police Are Now Disappearing Students for Their Op-Eds
Writing differing views is not a crime. Still, even if what she did was somehow illegal or they had a legimate legal reason to revoke her visa she deserves to be able to face her accuser and not be abducted and denied her life, liberty and property without due process.
brandensilva··on Trump's attacks on universities get darker, with shadows reaching our shores
The constitution is worth fighting for. All of it.

Protests need to be taking place. This isn't a bi partisan issue but a constitutional crisis that will destroy our country if we do not overturn these illegal EOs.

April 5th come support the national protest.

brandensilva··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
I'm already feeling like entrepreneurship is out the window.

It's a combination of AI being owned from these mega corporations and corruption at the highest level that I'm losing sight of what is the purpose building my startup business in an authoritarian landscape.

Trump illegally promoting Elon's corporation with a yard sale, kissing his feet for donating millions to his campaign thanks to citizens united, allowing him to ransack the federal government as an unelected official, to making vandalism a domestic terrorist act for people fed up when him,and now putting Elon in charge of investigating Signalgate.

People need to stand up now before they cannot.

brandensilva··on New startup sells coffee through SSH
TIL, the good news I guess is I only ssh into my hosting platforms and GitHub who have a reason to protect my data since I pay them.

Still I'll be sure to break up my keys more going forward and disable SSH forwarding.

brandensilva··on Aegis v3.0 – a free, secure and open source 2FA app for Android
Let's hope they add a desktop app. I'm on that screen more than my phone. I'm not one to care about having my phone on me all the time.
brandensilva··on Brain waves appear to wash out waste during sleep in mice
I wonder if this could help insomniacs. I had some pretty extreme burn out earlier this year that mentally made it so I couldn't sleep. I had to remove as much stress from life as I could and plan an aggressive routine of not working, relaxation, exercise, sleeping exactly on time and personal therapy with my wife to get my mind to shut down at night.

It is pretty grueling how bad it feels to not sleep so a cap like this would at least make it so the build up doesn't kill you from over collecting old fluid excessively.
