braebo··on Software engineering may no longer be a lifetime career
Socialism has been the answer since I was born in the 90s and the V shaped economy took hold.

We have enough resources for everyone to have food, shelter, education, and healthcare without the need to extract value from their labor.

All of these problems are self inflicted wounds. The solution is for humanity to stop stabbing itself and care for itself instead.

The solution is to let go of greed and embrace our humanity.

braebo··on Brain scans reveal 3 ADHD subtypes
I’ve always found the evolutionary biology lens very compelling for ADHD — consider hunters and gatherers. Hunters benefit greatly from the ability to quickly and sharply shift attention in an instant. They thrive at night and can hyper-focus on the thrill of the hunt. As civilization progressed, society was optimized for the majority (gatherers), and the hunters are marked as “disordered” for systemic incompatibilities.
braebo··on Flue is a TypeScript framework for building the next generation of agents
No type system is as strong as TypeScript — certainly not Kotlin.
braebo··on Running local LLMs offline on a ten-hour flight
Packing people into tiny spaces like sardines should be illegal.
braebo··on An AI agent deleted our production database. The agent's confession is below
You can easily persist agent memories in a markdown file though.
braebo··on Anonymous request-token comparisons from Opus 4.6 and Opus 4.7
Which open model has the same performance as Opus 4.7?
braebo··on Show HN: Claudraband – Claude Code for the Power User
Claude Code Desktop is as close as I can see them getting as it seems the big bet is that the IDE is on its way out as models improve.
braebo··on Building a CLI for All of Cloudflare
That’s the lsp not runtime. Bun runs Typescript very fast. It’s a fantastic language and ecosystem.
braebo··on How Complex is my Code?
Svelte for eliminating countless categories of complexity introduced by React.
braebo··on JSON formatter Chrome plugin now closed and injecting adware
We could use llms to scan source code and list all of the behavior not listed in the extensions page, like adware and geolocation tracking for example. Then another LLM locally to disable it and warn you with a message explaining the situation.
braebo··on Native Instant Space Switching on macOS
Same but it’s certainly too slow.
braebo··on The AI Great Leap Forward
Avoiding this with Opus has been trivial in my experience.
braebo··on GLM-5.1: Towards Long-Horizon Tasks
The cost per message increases with context while quality decreases so it’s still generally good to practice strategic context engineering. Even with cross-repo changes on enterprise systems, it’s uncommon to need more than 100k (unless I’m using playwright mcp for testing).
braebo··on With one million displaced, Lebanon turns to digital wallets for aid
What motivated hezbolah to form and engage in violence?
braebo··on Why are we still using Markdown?
Because it supports HTML as an escape hatch.
braebo··on The Claude Code Source Leak: fake tools, frustration regexes, undercover mode
Because Typescript is the best language for most things.
braebo··on My MacBook keyboard is broken and it's insanely expensive to fix
They aren’t even remotely close to being the same at this point.
braebo··on Anatomy of the .claude/ folder
Agreed, not to mention the m additional cost of chats with more context.
braebo··on I decompiled the White House's new app
Did they break down your door or shoot your SO in the head for not wearing a mask?
braebo··on I'm OK being left behind, thanks
More like “Producing 80% of the correct answer” and the remaining 20% with some nudging and tweaking. Still extremely valuable.
braebo··on Ask HN: How do you deal with people who trust LLMs?
Thank you for saying this.. ChatGPT is SO BAD. I suspect anyone that says OpenAI models are good are either lying or botting.
braebo··on Bubble Sorted Amen Break
No sound on iPhone. Shame Apple is so hostile to the web. Tragic really.
braebo··on How much of HN is AI?
Unregulated capitalism is unsustainable long-term anyways. This is just an accelerant towards the inevitable dystopia-or-socialist-utopia fork in humanity’s road.
braebo··on Agents that run while I sleep
Your sibling even more so.
braebo··on Create value for others and don’t worry about the returns
I’m biased as generalist, but I believe there is science behind the emergent insights afforded to us.
braebo··on Trump Plots Petty Revenge on Anthropic CEO
I’m not so sure this regime ends without a civil war or something given how determined they are to end our elections and usher in their own version of Putins Russia.
braebo··on Levels of Agentic Engineering
My use of skills is more like prompt templates for steering as opposed to the traditional sense of the word skill
braebo··on Levels of Agentic Engineering
If branches are tied to linear ids then gh cli and linear mcp is enough for any model to get most of the why context from any commit
braebo··on Will Claude Code ruin our team?
I’d love to see some of your design work.
braebo··on Will Claude Code ruin our team?
I work for a startup that makes a b2b SaaS that is _way_ too complex for anyone to spec out in a markdown file, especially when taking things like ITAR compliance into consideration.

We have seen steady growth and there’s been no signs of slowing down.

Our software facilitates order/quote/factory floor workflow automation with auditable trails in the manufacturing space, with cad file analysis and complex procedural pricing equations for quote generation, alongside a Shopify style storefront and many more goodies. We interface with things like shipping, taxes, erp integrations, and so much more.

I don’t see anyone vibe coding an alternative to our software even if they could. Manufacturers have enough on their plate managing their factory floors.

That said, we facilitate $millions in manufacturing orders per week and our engineering team is 3 people. We couldn’t do what we do without AI, and we would have needed to hire more engineers to handle the scale of our business if it weren’t for the power of Claude Code and Cursor.
