bproctor··on WTFM - Write The Freaking Manual
I agree 95%. However, I really do like to see a lot of simple examples. They can often make things much easier to understand once you see it. Similar in concept to "A picture is worth a thousand words".
bproctor··on Show HN: goodbre.ws, a fully open source recommendation engine for beer
You got a great start here. http://www.brewgene.com/ exists, but I don't think its recommendations are very good.
bproctor··on Why I’m not leaving Python for Go
I don't understand why anyone would "leave" a language that was working well for them just because of some hype. Don't get me wrong, I think we should all be striving to learn new things, but that doesn't mean we should just drop everything to jump on the next bandwagon.
bproctor··on Facebook's Gen Y Nightmare
I think this is a little pessimistic. If you have the capability to be able to predict a persons life, personality, etc. for the capability of hiring someone, you also have the capability to match people with their dream jobs. Ones that they would excel at.
bproctor··on Do Web 2.0 Companies Really Have The Best Technical Talent?
I'd have to disagree with the passwords thing. This is a design decision from the beginning, not a "I'll get around to it" type of thing. It's just about the same amount of work to implement salted and hashed passwords as it is not to. And it's much easier to just do it right the first time than trying to go back and fix it later. I can't imagine how a skilled web developer would miss something that glaringly obvious.
bproctor··on Thanks Mr. Jobs, But it Seems I Can Use a Linux Laptop Now
Photoshop. For a web developer, it's pretty much pointless to even talk about using Linux until this is taken care of.
bproctor··on Amazon’s colorful new towers will put a bold stamp on Seattle’s skyline
Other than the fact that they are going to block my view of the space needle, it's really going to be an improvement for the area. The area right now is a bunch of parking lots, old junky buildings, and a car dealership that seems out of place.
