boredtofears··on Closer to the Metal: Leaving Playwright for CDP
Is the case for playwright over puppeteer just in it's crossbrowser support?

We're currently using Cypress for some automated testing on a recent project and its extremely brittle. Considering moving to playwright or puppeteer but not sure if that will fix the brittleness.

boredtofears··on Attention Is the New Big-O: A Systems Design Approach to Prompt Engineering
Does Claude code do this by default? It seems for most prompts that I give it, it ends up breaking things into TODO lists and reformulating the prompt. This seems to work well for most tasks.

boredtofears··on Claude Code is a slot machine
Do you feel like you end up with as clear of a mental model reviewing it as you do if you wrote it?

I'm still trying to figure out the answer to that question for myself. Maybe the answer is, "Probably not, and it probably doesn't matter" but I'm still trying to figure out what kind of downstream effects that may have later on my judgment.

boredtofears··on Two guys hated using Comcast, so they built their own fiber ISP
Last I checked (years ago) it turned itself back on any time the router was power cycled.
boredtofears··on Two guys hated using Comcast, so they built their own fiber ISP
Which is why comcast goes to such great lengths to ensure they own as much of your network stack as they can - in my area at least, their support is capable of fully managing your router and WiFi remotely if you're leasing their equipment. I imagine this is a great boon for their ability to provide tech support (and includes a host of other "features" that don't serve direct customer needs such as a non-optional guest WiFi access point that any other comcast user can use).

This leads to fun tech support calls if you use your own equipment where you're basically proving to the support underling that you know how to run your equipment for the first 20-30 minutes before they take your issue seriously (yes, the modem light is green, yes, I've already power-cycled, yes, I'm testing on a wired connection, etc)

Thanks, this is an insightful explanation.
boredtofears··on Show HN: Aberdeen – An elegant approach to reactive UIs
Huh. I guess in my trend-chasing days we just called that event driven programming.

> Nice little library, but as it's signals based

How do you reach that conclusion? There is nothing mentioning signals in the docs anywhere.

boredtofears··on Void: Open-source Cursor alternative
If you use AI agents for all your work as a novice do you ever make it out of the valley?
boredtofears··on Generative AI is not replacing jobs or hurting wages at all, say economists
"Nothing to see here, folks! Keep shipping your stuff internationally!"

I thought the value of using a licensed tax agent is that if they give you advice that ends up being bad, they have an ethical/professional obligation to clean up their mess.
boredtofears··on Claude Code: Best practices for agentic coding
I've only user aider (which I like quite a bit more than cursor) but I'm curious how it compares to plandex and goose.
boredtofears··on Claude Code: Best practices for agentic coding
Yeah, I tried CC out and quickly noticed it was spending $5+ for simple LLM capable tasks. I rarely break $1-2 a session using aider. Aider feels like more of a precision tool. I like having the ability to manually specify.

I do find Claude Code to be really good at exploration though - like checking out a repository I'm unfamiliar with and then asking questions about it.

boredtofears··on Cozy video games can quell stress and anxiety
I don't think I ever made it into flow state once in Elden Ring even though I beat it. I just grinded until I was high level enough that it didn't matter that I didn't time any of the bosses right.
boredtofears··on AI Blindspots – Blindspots in LLMs I've noticed while AI coding
Great read, I can definitely confirm a lot of these myself. Would be nice to see this aggregated into some kind of "best practices" document (although hard to say how quickly it'd be out of date).
boredtofears··on We're bringing Pebble back
I love my Apple watch because it does so well with tracking fitness stuff (particularly swimming) but it's a few years old now and is starting to get that laggy feeling interface that seems to be a hallmark of older Apple devices after they've gone through enough OS upgrades. I'm dreading the idea of spending a couple hundred bucks on another watch.

Are the sensors/fitness programs on Pebble on-par with apple watches?

I wonder if there's a way to migrate over my years of recorded data over.

boredtofears··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
I'm not sure how you arrived at that interpretation of my comment but it does seem to be the one you were trying to goad out of me with your responses so you could reply with this.
boredtofears··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
There is an undercurrent of opinion on the platform that happens to align with Chinese worldviews that is strong enough to make politically neutral (or at least abstaining) influencers on the platform uncomfortable.
boredtofears··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
They don’t get this kind of pressure on YouTube or IG.
boredtofears··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
Other accounts on the app. Mostly comments from my understanding.
boredtofears··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
A sibling of mine who gets a significant portion of their income through their Tiktok following confessed to me recently that they completely understand why they are shutting it down.

Apparently influencers get a lot of unsolicited pressure to take stances on things like Palestine even if they're just a crafting influencer.

boredtofears··on A standards-first web framework
Perhaps this is pedantic but for someone who seems principled about strictly using standards, markdown itself has no real standard - you'll find wildly different implementations all over the place.

boredtofears··on The Future of Htmx
Just out of curiosity, do you know of any hypermedia/hateoas open source repositories that you'd recommend as good example implementations?

The best I've found is the github v3 API but it would be nice to review different approaches.

boredtofears··on Show HN: I built an AI calendar to help you get stuff done – feedback wanted
Framed in a slightly less condescending way: what kind of prompts are you sending the AI about my events?

How does it give me a starting point for "Fix bug tickets that came in over holidays" or "run to trader joe's to pick up groceries"? If this isn't a good use case for it, what kind of events are?

boredtofears··on Ask HN: Share your "LLM screwed us over" stories?
Awesome for everyone except the creators of all that data. For years Google slowly encroached on their viewership (ads, amp, summaries, etc) and now they are being replaced by something that gives the creators absolutely nothing. Not even attribution. Not only are they giving nothing, they are actively fighting in the legal system to ensure their data thievery is deemed legal.
boredtofears··on Rails for everything
3-6 hours is nothing in terms of the money you will spend on development for even a modestly funded startup. You definitely don't need to be a healthcare or banking app to quickly reap the benefits of a robust dev/deploy cycle.
