boredemployee··on I'm addicted to being useful
>> Corporate environments are almost always toxic places to fulfill your emotional needs

Thats the reason I avoid big companies at all costs

boredemployee··on LMArena is a cancer on AI
> Being verbose. Longer responses look more authoritative!

I know we can solve this in ordinary tasks just using prompt but that's really annoying. Sometimes I just want a yes or no answer and then I get a phd thesis in the matter.

boredemployee··on Maybe comments should explain 'what' (2017)
Really nice, we would have a better world if comments like that were the standard.
boredemployee··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
It would be true if the invading dictator didn’t have ulterior motives and dubious intentions.

boredemployee··on The AI coding trap
DO NOT WRITE ANY CODE YET.

haha I always do that. I think it's a good way to have some control and understand what it is doing before the regurgitation. I don't like to write code but I love the problem solving/logic/integrations part.

"Creative people don't hate the process of creating art"

Yep. I was a professional music producer before the pandemics, and I couldn't agree more.

Honestly, I'm glad we are destroying every way possible to earn money with music, so we find another profession for that purpose and then we can make music for fun and love again.

boredemployee··on Show HN: Zedis – A Redis clone I'm writing in Zig
3 months ago I was vibe coding an idea and for some reason (and luck) I went to check a less important part of the code and saw that the LLM changed the env variable of an API key and hard coded the key explictly in the code. That was scary. I'm glad I saw it before PR and shit like that.
boredemployee··on Orange Pi RV2 $40 RISC-V SBC: Friendly Gateway to IoT and AI Projects
for tasks like face recognition and object detection, would this type of hardware have good performance in real world cases? or, what is the standard hardware that devs use for tasks like that?
boredemployee··on You’re a slow thinker. Now what?
Thank you for the detailed reply! Really appreciate it.

I take SSRI since 2019 because of generalized anxiety disorder, but I'm much better now, my life changed a lot (for the better) and want to stop to take it or change for something else, because I'm already in a low dose but delayed ejaculation is something that I hate, I never had problems with it and the drug takes it to another level.

So I'll check what is a safe combination to perhaps threat both. My attention span really annoys me.

ChatGPT told me about vortioxetine for attention disorder and anxiety, which I'll discuss with the doc.

Thanks again!

boredemployee··on You’re a slow thinker. Now what?
I did struggle my whole life with "attention". Like my attention span in meetings is awful. I record everything so I can listen to later. it's time to look for a doctor.

Question: does stimulants interfere in other areas of life in a bad way (like sexual life etc)?

boredemployee··on New research reveals longevity gains slowing, life expectancy of 100 unlikely
in theory yes, but in practice will the majority of people get the benefits?
boredemployee··on New research reveals longevity gains slowing, life expectancy of 100 unlikely
Exactly. I'm the youngest in my family many aunts and uncles are already dead. those who still live are in a huge decline or completely lonely (sometimes both). Mom is in her late 70s and is in good shape, but she complains a lot about loneliness (even though I and my brothers visit her almost daily for a coffee or lunch). I think the joy of living ends with people around you dying.
boredemployee··on GPT-5: Overdue, overhyped and underwhelming. And that's not the worst of it
Biggest takeaway: even billion dollar companies can mess up big time. I can go back to work in peace now.
boredemployee··on GPT-5: Overdue, overhyped and underwhelming. And that's not the worst of it
And it is hallucinating like hell. Really disappointing.
boredemployee··on Where to find ideas
i think in reality most people are already solving some problem and for some reason (luck, influence, networking, right place right time) things can scalate. in theory, everything sounds great in these "recipes", but in real life, a lot of other things come into play: lobbying, people with influence because of inherited wealth, and so on. I know it's not the case 100% of the time, but it happens a lot
boredemployee··on Monitor your security cameras with locally processed AI
is it possible to not just recognize people but identify them? (with registered pictures beforehand ofc)
boredemployee··on OpenIPC: Open IP Camera Firmware
tangentially, does anyone know of any open-source and reliable implementations of the "AI" algorithms used in those expensive cameras? I'm looking to use features like face recognition, people counting, and similar capabilities, but with my own hardware and regular cameras. someone said to "avoid at all costs yolo" so i'm looking for alternatives
boredemployee··on Face it: you're a crazy person
I think I relate with most of the things you've said, even with the ADHD part (not officially diagnosed, however) but what annoys me these days is the amount of work we have to do. The work is rewarding but very often just * too much *. Maybe I'm unlucky or maybe it is the companies I worked for...
boredemployee··on ZUSE – The Modern IRC Chat for the Terminal Made in Go/Bubbletea
funny enough sounds just like my divided family. some subjects are not allowed on both sides
boredemployee··on ZUSE: IRC terminal client
tangential question: are there still any IRC servers and (small) channels with cool people? I recently lost a virtual friend I had talked to for over 20 years, all thanks to some random mIRC channel back in the day. he ran the server with a bunch of ppl for so long. so sad. i really miss the times when we could have fun with just plain text.
boredemployee··on Ask HN: Has anyone deployed LLMs to production?
Did u ever try to fine tune with openai? it works good for me
boredemployee··on The Death of the Middle-Class Musician
I totally agree, because I work with data analysis as well. Both feel similar because in the end you have to tell a story and (presumably) please the audience :)
boredemployee··on The Death of the Middle-Class Musician
I left a career in music production five years ago and moved into programming (data science). there's no turning back.

I was very aware that I was lucky. You can be the best, you can have a great network, but (in my experience), luck is the main factor. and the "luck" window in the music space is more and more narrow currently.

boredemployee··on GNOME and Red Hat Linux eleven years ago (2009)
It looks like Lode Runner, but even more simple as I remember. Not sure if it came together with KDE. So long ago.
boredemployee··on Red Hat Linux in 1998 (2009)
There was a game from that Red Hat era that I loved so much, I **think** it was in Red Hat in that same period. It was a really simple adventure game in 2d, you could play in a window after typing/entering startx. But can't remember the name, I was 12 and it seems today like I dreamt about the game lol.

Would appreciate if anyone remembers it!
