bookmarkable··on Google Blew a Ten-Year Lead
The future does not belong to Google and Facebook. Data privacy is too important to allow massive grow in ads, and they are not companies organized around selling software. As the article points out, we can live without both. It isn’t 2009.

When Dad jokes turn into UI labels.

Who cares.
bookmarkable··on Adobe to remove Flash Player from web site after December 2020
I miss Flash. It was fun. The web was fun. We got paid to make stuff move around and come up with crazy image masking animations and just experiment. The product had to go, but sadly, it would have no place in today’s much more serious web anyway.

Long live Macromedia and (F)uture Sp(lash) Animator.

bookmarkable··on Finally, I Closed My LinkedIn
I ran an experiment last year. I messaged over 100 of my 500+ LinkedIn connections with an invitation to reconnect and a link to book a call or in-person meeting. I got two responses - 2% success rate! - and zero followed through with even scheduling a call.

I’ll be deleting my profile soon, as well.

bookmarkable··on Ask HN: I find writing difficult, how do I make it easy?
I’m still grateful for a high school teacher that would assign a 1000 word essay and, weeks later after we’d forgotten it, hand it back and make us write the same essay in 250 words without losing the meaning of the original.

When you have something to say, write. Then set it aside until you have time to improve it. Then publish.

Congrats on your success!

May I ask how you ended up with a three letter dot com?

bookmarkable··on Covid-19 may be a blood vessel disease
Very informative article and a new angle in the fight against this disease.
bookmarkable··on Thoughts on cameras in the age of excellent cell phone photos
Wanted: A phone and SMS device that easily syncs photos, messages and contacts and has an excellent camera (iPhone or Pixel hobbyist level). No apps, spyware, built-in Google ties. Just shoot photos and be in touch when needed.

Kickstarter, anyone?

I tried the Light Phone II. It is okay, but missing a camera was too much of a hurdle.

bookmarkable··on Facebook executives shut down efforts to make the site less divisive
Perhaps important journalism, but it is behind a paywall, so apparently WSJ is satisfied that only their subscribers know this information about Facebook.

Meanwhile, Facebook is not behind a paywall, so they can monitor the conversations of billions of people despite monthly stories that circulate illustrating gross misconduct.
