bonobo··on Command line tools every web dev needs to know
I'm still trying, but it's demanding more discipline from me than I thought I'd need at first. It's hard to get rid of bad habits when they've already become muscle memory.
bonobo··on A $1 billion idea...that I know I'm not ready for
Everybody here is discussing his idea, but I'm more interested on the "I'm not ready for" side of the story. This is something that has always striked me, specially if the idea comes from a less experienced friend (such as some freshmen I know). Most of the times I get myself trying to stop their naive dreams of implementing a mobile social app and sell it for billions, Instagram-like, without even stopping to consider why their app would be worth a penny at all. So often that I started to feel like I'm being that guy.

I'm used to assume that if I'm too optimistic with my plans without actually picturing the whole scene, then I'm being too naive—if I really knew what I was doing then I would 1) be able to see some deterrents to the idea clearly or 2) have the whole problem solved. OTOH it's clear to me now that I cannot wait for a complete-and-with-every-detail plan to start anything, from software to a startup. Bets got to be made. This realization is what moves me away from analysis paralysis.

I feel like this is something that can't be taught, but I'd like to hear from you guys. There's a gray area somewhere in between both and I can't find a place that satisfies me.

bonobo··on Two Sources of Stress that (probably) apply to you
Information overload can be a huge opponent sometimes. I had a hard time fighting it, so much that I still consider it a true addiction (and still avoid falling on the same trap again).

When I started using firefox for the first time (whoa, tabs!), I started opening dozens of tabs at the same time, thinking I would read them all, one after another. But I could not, and their contents were interesting enough to prevent me from closing them. This habit followed for a long time, I installed a session saver, then I started using a feed reader. I had dozens of subscriptions and, if I didn't check my feeds for a whole day, soon there would be a hundred of them in my inbox — and I had to check them, or else I could lose information.

The stress came from the fear of losing information. It didn't matter if it were tabs, saved sessions or feeds, the idea of not reading any of those interesting articles was something hard to accept. I had to learn how to let this river of information flow without wanting to consume everything. No more feeds, no more than 9 tabs opened, no more saving sessions. This works for me now (most of the time).

bonobo··on Six-Legged Giant Finds Secret Hideaway, Hides For 80 Years
Stories like this always make me remember of the tasmanian wolf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thylacine). I always wanted to see one of those alive.
bonobo··on Lord of the Files: How GitHub Tamed Free Software (And More)
Actually it's still there: https://github.com/MrMEEE/bumblebee-Old-and-abbandoned/commi... MrMEEE changed the repo's name.
bonobo··on Why ++[[]][+[]]+[+[]] = 10 in JavaScript
I don't think the comma operator wouldn't be surprising to an experienced js programmer. I can't remember a single piece of serious code where I could see it in use.

The same applies to the void operator, I can think of one or two cases at most where it would be useful, but I don't see anyone using it.

bonobo··on How Badoo built a billion-dollar social network on sex
I was spammed with so many of these emails that I never really cared to check what Badoo is. I just created a filter to delete them as soon as they hit my inbox.

And I don't think I will ever try. I'm still pissed at it.

bonobo··on Show HN: Find new music with your friends
By negative feedback do you mean people emailing you, or any automated metrics you're using? Are you guys doing some sort of A/B testing on this?

I find it terribly annoying when I open multiple tabs and one of them starts playing anything and I have to find which one is the culprit. And when this happens I usually leave the site immediately. IMO it would work better without the autoplay by default, allowing it to be turned on using a very visible play button at the right side of the list or something like that.

By the way, nice project, I love the idea. I once used a site called muxtape[1], and all I hope is that you guys don't have the same fate they had.
