bombs··on DIY Pixel Qi screens - available now
1024 x 600, based on specs reported by tablets and netbooks that use them, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_tablet.
bombs··on [dead]
How does it affect actual performance, i.e. dropped calls? Do you hold your phone that way usually? If not, is there a problem when you hold it the usual way?
bombs··on [dead]
AnandTech showed in their review that cupping the phone caused signal drops on both the iPhone 3GS and the Nexus One too. The drop on the iPhone 4 was larger, certainly, but it didn't drop the call.

bombs··on The grandmother factor: Why do only humans and whales live long past menopause?
They're members of the delphinidae family (ocean dolphins), which are a member of odontoceti.
bombs··on Ask HN: How can I get better at design?
The books suggested by SimpleBits were good for me, http://astore.amazon.com/simplebits-20/191-2738847-5476816?_....

How many people use TwitPic as a blog?
bombs··on Working Hoverboard Revealed By French Artist
It can't support the weight of a person and can't move from its base. Almost there!
bombs··on Show HN: Mocksup, my mockup prototyping & review webapp
It's a lot easier to reduce the price than to raise it!
bombs··on Cloning Is Lame. Google Should Do It To Facebook Anyway.
Orkut launched two weeks before Facebook.
bombs··on Google's mismanagement of the Android Market
This is mostly true, except for location. The iPhone has always asked for permission before providing your location to apps (even to Apple's preinstalled apps, like Maps) and as of iOS 4, you're able to see a list of apps that have asked for your location, whether you said yes or not (with the option to change) and whether the app has accessed your location in the last 24 hours.
bombs··on Minimum Survival Kit
If you're interested in what a lot of survivalists pack in their survival kits, they're often referred to as "bug out bags", e.g. http://www.aussurvivalist.com/bugout.htm.
bombs··on Three complete specs for OSx86 compatible PCs
The CPU sure, but I'm wondering how usable the graphics card would be, it not being one of the graphics cards that ships with a Mac. It'd suck having am lack of drivers be a bottleneck.
bombs··on [dead]
My notes didn't get deleted, although not all of them synced.
bombs··on Three complete specs for OSx86 compatible PCs
"As Mac OS X Snow Leopard was never meant to be installed on this hardware, any drivers that work now, may need workarounds later. There are absolutely no guarantees when it comes to this stuff- but that's what makes it fun."

I guess it has to be the fun part, because these aren't that much cheaper than a Mac mini (which won't come bundled with the same headaches).

bombs··on Ask HN: Best web text editor?
As alluded to in another comment, how about your favourite CLI editor accessed via SSH. There are a few web-based SSH clients out there, such as Ajaxterm, Anyterm, WebShell, GotoSSH, etc.
bombs··on IPhone 4 Jailbroken Already
How did they get their hands on Apple's code?
bombs··on Jonathan Ive on the design of the iPhone 4
You do. The signal strength bars are to the left of the carrier name, while the connection type (EDGE, 3G, WiFi) icon is the right.

The WiFi icon (which acts as a signal strength indicator for WiFi connections) unfortunately does hide the cellular data indicator, which shows whether you're connected to EDGE or 3G.

bombs··on Skeuomorph
I've always referred to it (and used it) as a change pocket, as have jean manufacturers.
bombs··on Skeuomorph
The change in interfaces, particularly metaphors, is really interesting as things go from derivatives (e.g. a mechanised horse) to originals (e.g. a tractor).

It's also interesting when metaphors don't change, failing to keep up with reality, e.g. the floppy disk being used a save metaphor, when floppy disks have not been prevalent for years.

bombs··on VNC client using HTML5 (Web Sockets, Canvas) with encryption
I remember thinking how great AJAX SSH clients like those used by Slicehost were.

This sort of thing will be great, particularly with my OS X and Windows servers!

bombs··on Why Web Designers Should Not Use Ad Blockers
I don't agree.

The only reason why web designers should not use ad blockers, that I can think of, is to see how others are placing ads and learn from them, so when you have to design a page that has ads, you know how or how not to do it.

bombs··on Safari 4, built entirely with valid HTML5 and CSS3. Nary an image was used.
They're correct if you have your appearance settings set to Graphite instead of Blue.
bombs··on Google's animated Android promotional site
Google's?

It's an ad made by TBG Digital for Vodafone. They've made similar sites for Vodafone's other (non-Android) handsets too.

bombs··on [dead]
Be okay with dying.
bombs··on Facebook’s Instant Personalization Is the Real Privacy Problem
I added http://www.facebook.com/plugins/ and https://www.facebook.com/plugins to AdBlocker's filters in Safari.

It seems to have removed all Open Graph stuff from the web for me.

bombs··on Dan Grigsby (Mobile Orchard) abandoning iPhone development
Maybe they don't care, maybe they just like to complain loudly?
bombs··on Steve Jobs just ruined the iPhone for Clojure
> None of these will be able to update their games to the new SDK.

The ban on interpreters significantly predates the new SDK.

bombs··on Ask HN: How much does it cost to outsource iPhone app development?
Were you happy with the result?
bombs··on Why the iPhone Simulator is Awesome
If you hold down alt while using the iPhone Simulator, you can get two finger multitouch, which can be used for gestures like pinching too.
bombs··on Ars Technica reviews the iPad
I don't think the CD metaphor for music is dead yet, but both the iPhone and iPad show the iTunes icon when they need to be connected (i.e. at activation).
