bobim··on Apple's homework is due Monday no matter what, says judge
The dark patterns to make the rejection 5 clicks while acceptance is just 1 click are not the responsibility of EU.
bobim··on FFT-based ocean-wave rendering, implemented in Godot
I would like a Silent Hunter III remake with this.
bobim··on Infinite zoom art turned into a game so fun
After owning a cat?? Nobody owns a cat! The cat tolerates that you live in his vicinity.
bobim··on Human genome stored on 'everlasting' memory crystal
Is it me or the arrows suggests that the data can only restore a male? Does it comes with its other half?
bobim··on Nintendo Files Suit for Infringement of Patent Rights Against Pocketpair, Inc
To my understanding the patent office is here to assert if your patent is not stomping on another patent toes. Then you patent whatever and throw it in the legs of your competitor. You'll ultimately lose but you'll have wasted his time, money and brain space. Modern world, modern solutions.
bobim··on Ford patents in-car system that eavesdrops so it can play you ads
That you immediately captured the gist of it means everything. But we can use a lot of companies, Inteling?
bobim··on Ford patents in-car system that eavesdrops so it can play you ads
In principle eating and drinking is a major safety concern, a choking driver is not able to behave as per the minimum standard. And yes, radio can grab your attention, so it's fine in light traffic, maybe less in awkward situations. I guess racers don't listen to music when they race, but they drink for other reasons. Dunno.
bobim··on Ford patents in-car system that eavesdrops so it can play you ads
How can you design a car with safety in mind and then propose this? Driver's attention is not available for anything but the road in principle. At anytime. Ford is Boeinging or what?
bobim··on Lego to replace oil in its bricks with pricier renewable plastic
ABS is neat when it comes down to sustain the teething to split apart stubborn assemblies. Sold a crate of my ol'lego for 20.- and I'm happy thinking of these kids building new dreams with them.
bobim··on Lego to replace oil in its bricks with pricier renewable plastic
That's the fallacy of many of these bio-things, more emissions. Keeping consumption habits and dampening our guilt with green washing is not the solution. The keyword is: less.
bobim··on Why You Should Learn Linux (As a Developer)
Nope, example: the knowledge I build using OpenRadioss is mine until I die, while the knowledge I build using Abaqus is locked behind a 200k paywall.
bobim··on Why You Should Learn Linux (As a Developer)
Not even mentioning the #1 reason: freedom
bobim··on Scientists achieve more than 98% efficiency removing nanoplastics from water
Bleached paper is probably not a threat to testicles, but it's taking a toll on the environment they're living in. And it's for a frivolous reason: having snow white paper.
bobim··on Scientists achieve more than 98% efficiency removing nanoplastics from water
Paper manufacturing is not devoid of chemicals, it needs bleaching to be white and all the machines to put it in its final shape use mineral oils that find way into the final product. But maybe the quality of the tea itself dwarves the things you find in teabags.
bobim··on Scientists achieve more than 98% efficiency removing nanoplastics from water
Avoid paper also
bobim··on Scientists achieve more than 98% efficiency removing nanoplastics from water
Polypropylene sometimes
bobim··on In ‘The Book Against Death,’ Elias Canetti rants against mortality
Yes, but if we stop producing new minds with better capability we miss the opportunity to get the next Einstein that will enable warp drive and save humanity from its fate.
bobim··on In ‘The Book Against Death,’ Elias Canetti rants against mortality
Don't forget that death is a required feature for a specie to evolve. It might be the case that immortal organisms lived on earth, the fact that we don't see them around just confirms that dying is a competitive advantage, not a problem.

We are not the end of evolution, we need to overcome our individual desire to stay here an leave to make room for the next iteration.

bobim··on Understanding the design of the the Super Nintendo video system
Thanks for the clarification, it's giving me an excuse for my now totally bad timing at yoshi's island.
bobim··on Understanding the design of the the Super Nintendo video system
This is raising the question if emulators are using PAL timings for EU roms. And do we know if the snes mini is giving the NTSC or PAL experience?
bobim··on Musical Notation for Modular Synthesizers
This is very interesting, however all of this only works if we also know how to build the instruments. Probably we have this knowledge for classical ones, but do we have it somewhere for hardware synths?
bobim··on A practical introduction to constraint programming using CP-SAT and Python
I think that I would. Using natural language to describe the problem and constraints would be much better than figuring out mid project that the variable structure I've chosen does not allow to express a particular constraint. Defining the right structure is just Art at this point.
bobim··on Show HN: A Modern Palletization App
And if it can spit out an OpenRadioss input file, one could launch pallets (almost) directly.
bobim··on Show HN: A Modern Palletization App
Yes right, I'm biased toward single product pallet. Then high mass items should be placed on the first lower pallet, low mass on the pallet put on top of the first one in the truck. The solver starts to be complex.
bobim··on Show HN: A Modern Palletization App
Nice analogy!
bobim··on Show HN: A Modern Palletization App
Ah! That's a pretty much orphan subject yet the world is constantly moving pallets.

For pallet stability you would like to have a convex perimeter so the stretch wrapping maintains the boxes effectively. And also criss-crossing boxes for shear resistance.

But you need to align as much boxes corners as possible to get vertical stiffness.

A solver proposing stacking patterns with these constraints would be outstanding.

bobim··on Remote shell to a Raspberry Pi at 39,000 ft
Ok, thanks, it makes sense. I can stick with dietpi and ssh.
bobim··on Remote shell to a Raspberry Pi at 39,000 ft
Yes but the Pi is calling home, so isn't that trading privacy for convenience? And I fail to understand how it's more secure than ssh + private key? There is still a connection outside.
bobim··on Commission opens additional DMA investigation against Apple
EU is 450 millions customers, I don't see them missing out on this market. Add to the fact that they can also grow marketshare in a landscape which is still dominated by Android.
bobim··on Neofetch developer archives all his repositories: "Have taken up farming"
It pays badly yet it's the most essential bs-devoid job on this planet. That's showing how much our society is twisted.
