bobblywobbles··on My Budget – free, open-source offline cross-platform budgeting
Author of My Budget.

I'm currently working to get OFX supported, which is the "automatic API" that can scrape your transactions. Quicken uses this, falling back on screen scraping in case OFX isn't supported.

There are a number of features that I'd still like to add (documented here: https://github.com/reZach/my-budget/wiki/FAQ#future-features). Are there specific things you'd like to see that I can put on my roadmap?

Author of My Budget here. Can you send me a message on the Slack channel (https://join.slack.com/t/my-budget/shared_invite/enQtNjA0NDg...) "zachary" and we can talk about more details.
bobblywobbles··on My Budget – free, open-source offline cross-platform budgeting
Yes, that is one of the ways Quicken scrapes information.

The "bank API" is actually OFX, it's a protocol banks use to send each other data. I'm currently working on trying to get OFX support in My Budget. (I'm the author of the Github project).

Not the author of this post, but I am the author of My Budget. I saw this post and said, "Hey - I know that name!"

Thanks for sharing again. If you want to get in touch with me, there is also a Slack you can reach me "zachary" at (https://join.slack.com/t/my-budget/shared_invite/enQtNjA0NDg...)

Good site!
bobblywobbles··on America just had its lowest number of births in 32 years, report finds
They should focus more on the fact that income hasn't risen to account for a number of expenses that makes it very impractical to have children (debt, schooling, housing, loans, etc.). This is what I feel is contributing more to the fact of lower births.
bobblywobbles··on California could bring radical change to single-family-home neighborhoods
It's what has to be done, we are growing too quickly and we are running out of land.
bobblywobbles··on I built an AI web app able to design simple graphics as well as a human being
So what is your approach in starting this project, how did you begin? What are high-level building blocks to building a project such as this?
bobblywobbles··on I built an AI web app able to design simple graphics as well as a human being
Incredibly impressive, I love to see projects like this but have no idea how one would start building AI for things like this.

Everytime I hear about data modeling my brain glosses over. The math is too abstract and doesn't click for me how that works.

bobblywobbles··on Drugmakers hiked prices 1k% in price-fixing scheme, states allege
Not sure if you are being serious or not.

Inflating or price-fixing medicine that is ESSENTIAL to human life is not moral. It causes people to die because they can't afford it.

To the common response of "they just need to save more" is not fair to ask. That's saying the generic you pay $30 is now $330.

It's very neat, although there are some errors if you type in a number too large, the error text covers the input box and you aren't able to change your measurement.

bobblywobbles··on Philosophy has come up empty when it comes to proving god's existence
Catholic man here.

I'd just like to comment here, and hopefully bring an unbiased view from the other side of this conversation.

Even though that I am Catholic, and that I believe God exists, I can't stand here and hold up evidence X that proves irrefutably that God exists. Why? It's based upon this knowledge that I've gained thus far:

1. God decides when He reveals Himself to us. 2. Our relationship with God is deeply personal, to others, this interaction looks like a "coincidence."

For most of my life, I knew of God and this and that, but didn't ever "feel" anything. I thought I should right? But I didn't. There's truth to this passage, Romans 1:19 (ESV); "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.". It's not us that come to see God's existence, but when God allows it to be.

So when I say that "I know that God is real because I happened to see a cross when I was driving to the store today" sounds like a coincidence to others, but what I don't tell you is that I've been deeply struggling with laziness and fear and needed some reassurance. It's this presence of the cross to me a reminder that God is listening to me as I pray.

--

It's very common for me to hear people trying to disprove God. Oh what a crazy person, believing in this crazy floating man in the sky. What a wierdo!

Yes, I was in this crowd too at one point.

However, there is such peace in knowing God, having himself revealed to me. You have no idea, there is such a peace in my heart knowing God, and this is why myself, and likely other Christians choose to talk about God. With everything happening today, I know that God is still in control of everything and that we aren't assured destruction because nothing is impossible for God. This doesn't excuse us of doing the right thing, of course. We are still responsible for our actions but God has the final say.

bobblywobbles··on Dozens of States Sue 20 Drug Companies for Price Fixing and Obstruction
Good.

Higher-ups like to see the profits go up, but it's hard to quantify the actual people who suffer (and die) because their medicine is now too expensive to afford.

Instead of saying "oh, they should be saving their money", an ACTUAL objective fact needs to be raised that they are price-gouging their product. Of course, we all complain and argue but nothing happens because it's these people who dictate the price are in power (of their company, and they pay lobbists who enact laws to keep these plans in-place).

It's only when lawsuits like these come out that the people can actually see the negative impact all these people are suffering from because "they just wanted to make profits go up 5% for the shareholders". I just hope these executives realize this fact and our government makes necessary drugs price-fixed (the drugs that aren't mandatory could be in this type of market, that's fine with me).

bobblywobbles··on According to our capitalist overlords, you're broke because you eat lunch
Feel free to meditate, I tried that too for some time. It didn't offer anything or really fill me up.

It wasn't until I met God that that I felt peace about all of this. You may not agree with everything the church says, I know I didn't, but God gives us a chance at eternal life. If you look at where we are going, that's the only chance we have.

bobblywobbles··on According to our capitalist overlords, you're broke because you eat lunch
Laughable - we spend too much on the "nonessentials" such as gym memberships, takeout and ridesharing. The same products you spend oodles to try and sell to us.

The idea that we can continue to grow at the rate which we have isn't sustainable. The bottom line is to accept we can't continue to consume like we've have, and to realize the consequences we are putting on ourselves and our earth for doing so. Most of all, start to pray and find the Lord, because this world is going downhill and the big players in power are still thinking about their bottom-line.

Totally agree.
bobblywobbles··on US Senator Declares War on Predatory Game Loot Boxes and Microtransactions
I agree, it's a cash grab.

On the other side, game prices haven't risen as they should've had, so this "loot box" has helped keep the price of games down. At the same time, if a game is $100 - I'm not going to buy it, nor if I have to pay a subscription.

We can't have cake and eat it too!

Our needs are complex, and constantly changing. If our needs weren't complex, it would be easier to make a change.
bobblywobbles··on Dear Client, Here’s Why That Change Took So Long
I disagree with you. I don't think the article is "full of excuses." The details are essential to help non-developers understand why things take longer than expected, giving them a list of hours is not helping them anymore understand what goes on.
bobblywobbles··on Paying for Open Source Contributions
I may differ from others, but anything that I do as volunteer work needs to be unpaid. Putting money in the equation means that I'm no longer doing X work for Y people, but instead doing X work for Z dollars.

Putting money in the work makes it transactional, and that turns me off to "paid volunteer work". At that point, it's really just another label for "optional job". Volunteer work is donating your time or effort, so putting the "paid" label on it is misleading in my eyes.

I also already donate to charity so I don't see a need to get paid to donate more money, which others may have an incentive to do. This is a point to consider.

bobblywobbles··on Paying for Open Source Contributions
I already give money to charity.

The reason why I don't like to put money in open-source work is it attaches a value on something where I would consider the work priceless and personal.

It makes the work feel cold, or transactional. I'm sure others would agree.
