bob_loblaw··on Tesla seeks to raise $1.5B to fund Model 3 production
Look at AB 1184 in California. They are looking for more government money to offset their prices. Current stipends from Obama will reduce by half once they sell 200,000 cars. These reduced stipends will get cut in half after two quarters. They will go away after an additional two quarters. A majority of Model 3 preorders are actually for a $42,500 car instead of $35,000. They have to get that price back down.
bob_loblaw··on A Murky Road Ahead for Android, Despite Market Dominance
Earlier today there was a link to a talk about the state of Go. The link below shows that Go 1.5 is working on Android and experimental on iOS. What does "working" mean? No idea. I would bet that Google has been developing another development language for Android since a ruling in favor of Oracle would would be a huge financial burden for Google.

bob_loblaw··on A Murky Road Ahead for Android, Despite Market Dominance
I half expected the article to reference the Oracle Java API fiasco. That could definitely murky the waters for Android. This, at least, is pretty credible threat to Android.
bob_loblaw··on Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days?
I'm a big fan of The Accidental Guerrilla. I went through a big counter insurgency phase about seven years ago. That book and The Gamble by Ricks were my favorites.

Best Sprint MVNO is Ting. You, essentially, pay for what you use. My bill averages about $20 a month. There are some limitations on which phones you can use. Most Android flagship phones are available at launch. For things like the iPhone, Sprint has to give permission for Ting to activate them. The general rule is that once it has been a year since the phone came out on the Sprint network, you can take the used device to Sprint. Here is their latest update about upcoming devices:

They even have a signup for notifications when the iPhone 5S/C is available.

bob_loblaw··on Pushing iOS
To have those push notifications work properly, you would need something like Google Now. You don't want notifications for the nearest tube station, you only want those for the stations you use on a regular basis. So Apple would have to know your daily routine for this to work properly. Apple is not keen on tracking copious amounts of its users data, so they may be opposed to this from the beginning. Then they have to have a web service to properly handle all of this. Poor web services is the biggest flaw of the Apple ecosystem.
bob_loblaw··on Pushing iOS
When I used an Android device, I did not like widgets cluttering up my desktop. However, I did have a calendar widget on the lock screen. I am a forgetful person, so I appreciate having reminders about upcoming events so visible. I am forced to look at it. Even with with the red badge on Clear, I don't open the app enough to see what tasks I have to do. Opening and closing apps to get a small amount of useful information seems so inefficient to me.
bob_loblaw··on Firefox OS: Tracking reflows and event loop lags
He says this is for FFOS 1.4+. When will this make its way to the public? Mozilla Hacks has some directions on how to get 1.2 on your ZTE Open [1], but I've seen nothing about 1.3 let alone 1.4.

bob_loblaw··on Git Integration
Yup Chrome only. I believe they are working on more browsers.
bob_loblaw··on Git Integration
Downloaded Brackets today, as I am really excited for the live web view. However, the live web view either showed wonky formatting or crashed. However, if I open the same index.html doc in Chrome, everything is fine. They say Bracket is updated every 2.5 weeks, so I hope the issue doesn't last too long.
bob_loblaw··on To what extent is an organisation liable when they get security wrong?
The fact that the courts sided with AT&T and not weev, I am guessing a class action lawsuit wouldn't get very far. The problem is that people who don't really understand this stuff will be asked to set up guidelines on "leaving the window open." I could easily see a "solution" that makes things worse.
bob_loblaw··on Mozilla’s Firefox OS Gives The Open Web Top Billing On Mobile
Yeah that is frustrating. I was able to update some apps, but the OS update is not working. I heard about the 1.1 update which speeds things up, but turns out that bug is for a 1.0 update. I think the keyboard is the biggest holdup right now. It is slow to register, and doesn't have much of an auto-correct. They have an auto-suggest which isn't as useful. I don't want to dwell on the negatives, but there are a few issues.
bob_loblaw··on Mozilla’s Firefox OS Gives The Open Web Top Billing On Mobile
I have been surprised by the phone. Didn't think my $80 would go so far. A few complaints here and there, but not enough to keep me from using it as my full-time phone for now.
bob_loblaw··on How to Opt Out of AT&T's Plan to Sell Data About You and Your Smartphone Use
Been having a problem with textsecure; I can't send an mms. I am talking to Moxie to try and figure what is going on, but no luck.
