bmunro··on The Little Coder's Predicament
"I've seen kids who vehemently deny that meat comes from animals."

Going off topic...

There is no chance of my kids not knowing where meat comes from. I often use the words beef/cow or pork/pig etc interchangeably.

e.g. "What's for dinner tonight?" "Chopped up bits of cow."

bmunro··on Ask HN: Industries Ripe For Disruption?
There is an open source competitor - Moodle (moodle.org)

My university currently uses Blackboard. Some of the computing subjects are trialling moodle to see whether the whole university could switch from Blackboard.

Moodle is simpler to use and less buggy.

bmunro··on Friendster relocates to Australia
The article didn't say anything about 'relocation'.

It only said that they Friendster's office is located in Sydney.

bmunro··on Problems with Linux
The article agrees with you:

"People only work on what they want to work on, when they want to work on it. Most people don't see any need to make Linux more attractive to inexperienced end-users: It already does what they want it to do, why should they care if it doesn't work for other people?"

bmunro··on School Recess Improves Behavior
I had a 20 minute break and a 40 minute break every day throughout my entire 13 years of school. This was in Australia.

I can't believe that in other countries you don't get to run around regularly at school.

bmunro··on Tell HN: Vote.
Because it is compulsory, it is also very easy to vote in Australia.

Most people can walk to their local school, community hall etc. There are places to vote absolutely everywhere.

There are no queues to vote. You just walk in and vote. This year, I queued for the first time ever. there were four people in front of me, I had to wait maybe twenty seconds.

Voting is always held on Saturday
