The article reminds me of the similarly ridiculous take in Effortless Mastery. These authors are selling your own hopium to you. The appropriate amount of effort is as much as possible - just don’t do it in such a dumb awkward way.
Picked up an Umbrel server to run Bitcoin Knots node last month. Works extremely well, I highly recommend it for similar applications. Nice web based UI.
I'm on a team like this currently. It's great when everyone knows how to use the tools and spot/kill slop and bad context. Generally speaking, good code gets merged and MUCH more quickly than in the past.
> To think that with enough compute we can code consciousness is like thinking that with enough rainbows one of them will have a pot of gold at its end.
What does consciousness have to do with AGI or the point(s) the article is trying to make? This is a distraction imo.
Perhaps you haven't used many MCP server, but those that I have used (GitHub, Atlassian, Glean, BuildKite, Figma, Google Workspace, etc) work very well. They teach an LLM how to do exactly what you're saying - "use the API standards...your models/agents directly interact with those API endpoints." Most MCP severs don't sit in between the LLM and the API endpoints, they just teach them how to use the tools and then the LLM calls the APIs directly as any HTTP client would. I find it works quite well and seems far better than manually maintaining rules or pointing at docs and installing CLI tools (like "gh" for GitHub) or using curl to interact with APIs from a terminal within a chat session.
This already happened to me because of mouse usage. I’ve longed for a keyboard like this so I cam rest my right arm/hand which has significant damage and pain.
Concerning cats, I'm specifically talking about imprisonment and mutilation. Cats are social roaming animals and many are kept staring out windows of small apartments and run for the door every time it's opened hoping for escape. Mutilation occurs regularly to keep them from procreating. All of this is socially accepted by humans. If a cat is running around free and being fed and sheltered by humans, no problem, but obviously this can lead to issues with feral populations that don't mix well with civic engineered spaces.
Alternative viewpoint: separating a dog from its natural social life and forcing its integration into a human world, even if done out of a concept of affection, is morally wrong. I suspect future generations will liken the domination of many species, such as dogs and cats, to slavery.
