blario··on Books every self-taught computer scientist should read
I take it to mean, Ph.D; not from experience, but that's the only meaning that makes sense in the context.
blario··on Google's acquisition of Motorola approved by EU and U.S DoJ regulators
Now that Motorola IS Google, it'd be safe to say google is interested in helping google?
blario··on Why Don't Americans Elect Scientists?
I think this is close, but the real reason to me is the barrier to entry raised by the current state of campaign finance.

Elections are bought today. No caps on spending. No limits on individual contributors. In addition, not just billionaires electing politicians, corporations get to throw in their millions now too. It's worse today than it's ever been before.

Gingrich has largely been financed by one guy the past month or so. Romney out spent Gingrich in Florida at least 5 to 1. Current governor of Florida bought his seat.

To win today, rich entities have to want you in power. The understanding is that they pay for your allegiance. To get this sponsorship, and NOT be a crook, takes a special person; a true politicker capable of raising the money, keeping them happy enough to sponsor you again the next round, but still work for the citizens of the country as much as possible; rare and difficult.

A scientist is not a politicker. Scientists like facts, scientific laws; concrete and measurable realities. Not deception and corruption (manchurian candidates instead of democratic republic). If a scientist was not completely disgusted by the political arena, they would not get far without pretending or actually being bought by some rich entity.

As to drivers, what reason does Goggle have to not release the driver code? This would be helpful to us that still want to use the latest Android more than 2 years after we spend $800 on a nexus phone.

Sadly, the binary that is always locked down is the modem. That might not have anything to do with the manufacture. Who knows what code carriers and requiring manufacturers I hide in there.

blario··on Tor project needs volunteers to help Iranian users access the internet
Just FYI, what andrew said sounded like a plan to me, but AWS only gives 750 hours with the free tier. Might suffice for now, but not forever. So looks like I'll have to do this on an linux vm instead (at home).

Where is the obfuscation bridge covered in more detail? (I've already checked the link in Jason's email.) He says it's highly technical, maybe to some it is, but it only coves installation; not how the obfuscation actually works: how a TLS connection can appears to be HTTP? Someone might say read the source, but my literacy in that area is questionable.
blario··on Building Windows for the ARM processor architecture
Because with Apple and MSFT requiring UEFI locked ARM devices, how much choice do you think will be available for people looking to buy ARM tablets they can run any OS on?
blario··on Building Windows for the ARM processor architecture
And there lies one mistake MSFT is making. I definitely wouldn't pay good money for one of these if it can't run anything besides Win8. Perhaps only if it has a well supported jailbreak.
blario··on The FBI's files on Steve Jobs
I'm referring to the wording. The author never hesitates to exclaim genius compliments, but equally opinionated proclamations about the negative aspects of his character not proclaimed. Facts are stated, but there are no proclamations describing what type of person that means SJ to be.
blario··on The FBI's files on Steve Jobs
it may have technically been a resignation. you know; that old political game...

the interviews show that everyone that knew and worked with him thought he resigned. only when they interviewed jobs did HE say he was fired.

blario··on The FBI's files on Steve Jobs
As to character, this is far more revealing than that sanctioned bio. I found the bio to be biased: the author never failed to use "genius" but as far for negative qualities, they were brushed aside.

Roughly 40 interviews in this pdf, from close associates, friends, classmates, co-workers, and industry colleagues. Not for profit; only meant to give an accurate depiction. And people seem to have been very honest also; maybe the interviewer being the FBI and probably confidentiality promised as well. I find roughly 60% of the people say he's morally and ethically questionable.

blario··on Microsoft’s attack on Linux: The hardware way
You're right, the same rules should apply for everyone. The solution is simple: if a windows device with a locked bootloader is not acceptable, don't buy it. Buy android devices with open bootloaders if you want freedom to do whatever with your hardware. Moreso, buy Lemote Yeelong to guarantee the hardware specs will be open enough to adapt any OS to work on it.

ARM devices should be scrutinized because not only is Windows adopting them, but OS X also (# 1 & 2 consumer OSs). x86 requirements should be monitored also, just in case the following does not occur.

blario··on Rich Dad Poor Dad... Worst Personal Finance Book of All Time?
I like the RDPD book*, but I couldn't even stomach the 4-hour work day. From page one, it screamed 100% false. Felt like I'd have to be retarded to believe any of it. Strangely, I haven't heard others say the same.
blario··on Tell HN: I want to teach you web development. In 8 weeks. For free (sort of)
Is demand for Rails developers this high?

There's this much of a shortage that there's no available talent to employ?

This much of a shortage to add a $6,0000 premium on top of a brand new developer?
