TWS are better comparison. Smartphone battery need to be changed in 3-5 years and should cost < $50. People throw them away because new one is better and they have money.
They were first in phone with touch interface and no keyboard. In terms of other capabilities/apps there were other phones much more powerful and capable.
Have we tried increasing cognition by selective breeding. Get mice best at maze to breed 100 descendants and repeat it few times, with varying food supply and survival difficulties.

I think it has to do with mental model. If you already know what to write and it is reasonably complex you'll have a mental model ready and can quickly write it down (now even faster as LLMs autocomplete 3-4 lines at a time). While reading someone else code you'll have to constantly map the code in your mind with code written and have to then compare quality, security and other issues.
That should remain true for foreseeable future. A 30b model can't beat 300b. Running 300b model locally is prohibitively expensive. By time it would be feasible cloud will also move to 10x larger model.
Kickstarter style upfront payment may be more useful. You want touchpad with buttons; it would cost 300k to develop if enough people paid, the company would build it. If it is a niche, let open ecosystem take care of it.

No amount of money allows the gardener to plant it in the past. You can pay money now to plant tree now whose benefit will be reaped 100 years down the line. Also, tree is symbolic so no point in going in details of tree growth.
Steam has recently added UPI. Since it is completely interoperable, one company/bank can't block it. Govt. may block some account, but than they can do so much more.
