blackflame··on WiFi deauthentication attacks and home security
Ethernet is a shared medium as well if you want to talk to other devices on your network. So instead of deauth they do ARP poisoning.
blackflame··on WiFi deauthentication attacks and home security
That surely would be noticed in any sort of rigorous certification program.

College provides more education opportunities than just those found in the classroom. Social skills are just as fundamental as arithmetic in a successful career.
blackflame··on Alcohol and social bonding in humans (2018)
I think one of the biggest causes of loneliness is over sharing. We as humans respond more readily to negative stimuli than positive reinforcement. Therefore if a person has two opinions, one we agree with and one we don’t, we’re not likely to be overly excited about our compatibility. As we share and learn more about people than ever before, not all the things we discover we like. The chances of ruining a friendship because of ones beliefs are greatly increased because of 1) Social Media = Larger audience 2) More sharing = more reasons to dislike someone that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

On the bright side, your close friends are likely to be even closer than how friendships existed in the past

Because it’s mainly a social club and some of the events include things like date night with a sorority. I’m not sure exactly why, but for some reason girls ages 18-23 really feel weird about being on a date night with someone old enough to be their dad. The point is, it’s never to late to learn something new but keep in mind your limitations change as you age. People remember their youth as it was yesterday but there are reasons why we prohibit adults talking to minors

Yea they’ve only been around like 250 years or so on both sides of the pond.

There was once a guy in his mid-40s that tried to rush the fraternity I was in. I don't think there were any rules that prohibited it either except extreme creepiness.

blackflame··on Thoughts On a Year of Exercise
I struggled with weight all my life. I constantly would get motivated to workout only to quit over and over again due to the lack of meaningful progress after the initial period. Even weight lifting I could only put on muscle but never lower my body fat below 18. After getting a scale that measures body composition and studying what I ate and how it affected me I was finally able to figure out the issue. The issue is metabolic syndrome and I suspect many people have this condition.

Think of it this way, your body is constantly in either burn or store mode. When you move, you deplete energy reserves within the cell which must be replenished from the blood supply. Glucose is the basic energy block on the cellular level (ignoring intercellular ATP) for the human body. In order for glucose to pass into the cell and replenish reserves, it must pass through a gate that blocks out harmful material. The key to this gate is called insulin. When you eat a sugary diet, this gate mechanism becomes less and less responsive sort of like a tired security guard after the morning and evening rush. When the gate fails to open, two things happen: The first is that the cell becomes fatigued because its energy reserve hasn't been replenished, and second, the glucose stays in the bloodstream where it eventually is converted to glycogen and stores as fat.

This is the problem that gets people. When you are in this state, you will burn less fat during your workouts and they will feel harder too. For the triple whammy, your body will catabolize energy-burning muscle instead of using what's already available. The only good time for sugars is after a workout so as to prevent catabolism. Keto and low carb diets work by reducing the strain on the insulin receptors allowing them to become resensitized. This is also why fasting diets work because they reduce insulin sensitivity so that your body more readily uses the energy it has when it has it.

3 Things Effect Weightloss and a change in any of them could make a "bad" food good or a "good" food bad in terms of losing or gaining weight.

1 - How much have you moved recently

2 - How much have you eaten recently

3 - What did you eat recently

Another thing is that you should view calories from simple sugars as calorie multipliers in terms of weight loss. Too much sugar causes insulin to stop opening the cell gates for glycogen to be consumed, similar to a lock getting worn out so the key(insulin) stops working. The net effect is no matter what you do you're not going to be able to consume as many calories causing fatigue and glycogen that stays in the bloodstream stores as fat.
blackflame··on Ask HN: How big of a problem is fake news, what can we do?
The biggest problem today is opinion masquerading as news. If one party calls people fact witnesses that witnessed nothing and provided no facts I think you can begin to figure out who’s misleading you
blackflame··on NASA’s X-59 Quiet Supersonic Research Aircraft Cleared for Final Assembly
An apu doesn't generate nearly enough power to taxi the aircraft. Since a large APU is essentially another turbine, you're back to using a turbine to propel the aircraft. If this really were a place to save money then the simplest solution would just have the tug pull it all the way to the runway. That way the aircraft doesn't need to take on additional weight for motors/apus which will sap fuel economy during flight.

It's not as big as you think. It's about the size of a high-voltage power line approx 3' diameter.

blackflame··on NASA’s X-59 Quiet Supersonic Research Aircraft Cleared for Final Assembly
A lot of the fuel efficiency of modern aircraft comes from having giant turbofans instead of turbojets. By attaching a giant fan the front of your compressor and redirecting most of the air around the engine you can get great efficiency at subsonic speeds. However, the nature of the fan has fundamental limitations when approaching the speed of sound and turbo/ram jets are basically just pouring gas in a tube of precompressed air.
blackflame··on NASA’s X-59 Quiet Supersonic Research Aircraft Cleared for Final Assembly
Yea the SR-71 has very poor lift at slow speeds because of its lack of wing hence why it needs the chines on the forward section of the fuselage.

Yea what is generating the power for those motors?

As a journalist, you don't get to determine importance because you don't what people value, who is going to read your stuff, and who they are going to tell about it. A large number of people think Kim Kardashian is the most important news. I think it's you who misunderstands.

No, Journalism and Software are not the same. Would you make the same argument that software on the 737 Max should be shipped and then fixed later? Absolutely not. Journalists need to understand that what they write has real-world impact and can actually lead to lot of unnecessary anguish if they publish things that are not true. Truth should always be paramount to speed in journalism. You can't always correct your mistakes as a journalist because most people only see 1 version of your draft and don't wait around for later corrections before jumping to conclusions.
blackflame··on Ransomware gangs now outing victim businesses that don't pay
To be fair, if you are taken over by ransomware, it's probably the best decision to start from scratch and redesign your network so that this sort of thing is mitigated in the future.
blackflame··on Is It Time for the US to Drag Jobs Out of Silicon Valley and into the Heartland?
The Government has no business in picking and choosing which cities to promote. The free market will take care of that. The government should instead focus on why everyone is leaving the heartland because it's not just because of the beach.
blackflame··on Self-Driving Mercedes Will Be Programmed to Sacrifice Pedestrians
Yea you would think the best decision is the one that leads to the least damage to the car and by extension the least number of objects hit. Even if the decision were people vs concrete pillar, it's perfectly reasonable that a human driver would also choose to save their own life at the cost of others.
blackflame··on Self-Driving Mercedes Will Be Programmed to Sacrifice Pedestrians
There is no correct choice and even if there were, you could never prove that the correct choice was made because maybe there was another choice that could have saved more people.

There are many factors such as gas prices that need to be considered as well when it comes to RV sales for example. Maybe people are now able to fly and stay in hotels instead. Maybe more people know that the best days of owning an RV are the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
blackflame··on Ask HN: What's the current sentiment on JWT for stateless auth tokens?
Because pinging another server for a few bytes of data and offloading that working memory to the client side is much more efficient than storing the session data in server memory in between requests. Furthermore a single coordinating key server can work in conjunction with many micro-services to simplify architecture, security, and hardware requirements.
