billpollock··on Amazon has made a change to the way it sells books, which may hurt publishers
We know the source of only one of the five titles. We're still trying to find details on the other four. That one was CreateSpace.

Your number 2 is definitely not true. Counterfeit books have been sold though that Buy button and may still be.

at least 1500 copies in our case.

* I have no issue with people selling used books. As with any good, if you own it you should be able to resell it.

* Publishers send out review copies to get reviews. I used to mark our review copies but reviewers don't like that. For some, their compensation from whatever source they write for for is the book they review.

* There are numerous entities in the publishing supply chain and always the potential for holes or bad actors.

* We've had five books sold as fakes.

At least five of our titles were counterfeited on Amazon. The counterfeits replaced our main inventory and owned the Buy button.

Some publishers do, some publishers don't.

Counterfeiting is the real problem.

Not that simple.

Yes.

We've had at least 5 books counterfeited on Amazon. In each case the counterfeit inventory replaced our inventory and owned the Buy button.
billpollock··on Amazon's Tepid Response to Counterfeiters Frustrates Sellers
One star reviews damning our book should stay, lowering the overall book review? How is that not blaming the victim? We're not the counterfeiters.
billpollock··on Amazon's Tepid Response to Counterfeiters Frustrates Sellers
That's correct. One issue we've faced is that people will give the counterfeits one-star although most people reviewing the book give it four or five stars. That just ends up hurting us unfortunately. It took Amazon over three months to remove those one star reviews from one of our counterfeited books.

I can't but only because I can't really smell much any more. Other than bourbon.

We're having a problem with GitHub forks hosting a bunch of pirated copies of our books. GitHub wants us to point to them all -- but they're forks!
billpollock··on Sellers printing counterfeit books and selling under Amazon's brand
These have no branding other than our front cover.

I haven't seen these counterfeits. I've only seen the photos. The first counterfeit looked like it was printed from our PDF but it's hard to tell. There's a bar code on the back but not the POD code you're referring to. But we know the first one was printed and sold by them. About 1200 copies.

That was absolutely the case with Linux Command Line and it appears to be the case here as well. I say appears because I have yet to receive the product but the manufacturing looks exactly the same as the last counterfeit. The same traits.

In both cases a five year old child could tell the difference in an instant.

Not ours I hope!
billpollock··on Sellers printing counterfeit books and selling under Amazon's brand
We generally avoid POD. Quality doesn't always meet our standards, and we're picky.
billpollock··on Sellers printing counterfeit books and selling under Amazon's brand
We put a lot of thought into the paper and cover finish on all of our titles. I like to produce books that I would buy. These cheap-looking knockoffs are painful to see.

We won't stop selling DRM-free but this is the second time we've had a problem like this with Amazon.
billpollock··on Sellers printing counterfeit books and selling under Amazon's brand
So far incidents like these are rare. We won't stop selling drm-free e-books and our sales have gone up every year for the last 20 years. This is clearly a problem that needs to be solved and with enough attention paid to it by consumers I have to believe that Amazon will begin to do something about it. At least I hope so.

Something like that, but in quantity. The copies we've seen were sold directly by Amazon. Push the main buy button and that's what you got. Counterfeits.

In the case of the counterfeit copies of Linux Command Line sold through Amazon, those were printed by CreateSpace in violation of copyright. That is certain. From what we can tell that is also the case here.

I'll ask our developer to check on this tomorrow. Cloudflare settings appear to be correct.
billpollock··on The Rust Programming Language Pre-Sale
Weird. We just completed a site migration. I'll have to make sure that the HTTPS is still working correctly on Cloudflare.

Thanks for the heads up.

We've got it listed as an October release but basically, when it's done.
