bilal4hmed··on OpenAI negotiations to reinstate Altman hit snag over board role
pulling investment would be a hard power. Imagine if Microsoft says the change in leadership and idiotic board means the contract is done, no more compute for openAI and then goes on to back Sam Altmans new company

openai will be writing papers and asking for donations within a weeks time at that point as the rest of openAI quits

bilal4hmed··on Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year
Interestingly enough the person who wrote the white paper for the signal protocol implementation in Googles RCS, Emad Omara, now works for Apple https://www.gstatic.com/messages/papers/messages_e2ee.pdf

bilal4hmed··on Privacy is priceless, but Signal is expensive
I have an old receipt in my Google Pay for whatsapp at a whopping 99 cents :)

Easy google , but no it doesn't

bilal4hmed··on Privacy is priceless, but Signal is expensive
If your employer matches don't forget that ... Easy way to double your donation
bilal4hmed··on Privacy is priceless, but Signal is expensive
is there any way they can reduce that cost?
bilal4hmed··on Why We're Pulling Our Recommendation of Wyze Security Cameras
A key thing with ubiquiti is that you need all ubiquiti hardware for the cameras. It's an expensive affair
bilal4hmed··on Apple Investors Already Hate the New iPhone 15
what better time to be a share holder. Google is facing an anti trust lawsuit that if it loses hands Apple a monopoly
bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
ah thanks for that, Im was wondering how it makes their financial position better. Losing this case imo would knock them out completely
bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
on iOS the most innovative browsers are just shells over safari. Every browser is safari

At least the other OS's allow you to run your own rendering engine

bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
how would the loss of funding put Firefox in better shape? Are you saying that exposure would mean dollars would flow in from donations from new users?
bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
I find it hilarious when people complain about paywalls etc. If you want zero ads, then you have to pay. How will you pay otherwise, magic or thoughts n prayers??

then I love the "I dont want my computing resources to run ads", well then dont read the article !!

bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
they will have to stop if $500 mn in payments stop....they might have to stop altogether lol
bilal4hmed··on U.S. v. Google
This will be a good one to watch. If the government wins, Apple and Mozilla might also be on the losing side here and for Mozilla itll pretty much be the end.

Might be the kick in the pants FF needs to figure out funding, otherwise a plus for web devs who now need to worry about just 2 rendering engines.

bilal4hmed··on The end of the subscription era is coming
Im not sure what the problem with a paywall is?

Dont want to see ads, care about privacy but also dont want to pay for content ??

bilal4hmed··on Digital Markets Act: Commission designates six gatekeepers
They are viable options. I dont know about regulated, but them not being used is their problem. IE6 was king and then phoenix unseated them, followed by firefox. So people have options, them not using the other option is their issue
bilal4hmed··on Digital Markets Act: Commission designates six gatekeepers
Signal, iMessage, Telegram, Line, WeChat, Element, SMS ...the list goes on n on
bilal4hmed··on Digital Markets Act: Commission designates six gatekeepers
Umm none of these companies are monopolies. For everyone in the list there is another option

Europe just doesn't have any companies at all

bilal4hmed··on The renewable energy revolution is happening faster than you think

bilal4hmed··on Board Changes at Signal
misread it sorry. He left as CEO over a year ago, but remained on the board. Today he leaves the board as well and basically has 0 influence in the co. anymore
bilal4hmed··on Board Changes at Signal
those are search trends and not usage trends.

I would accept that too, but I should be able to take my messages with me anywhere I go
bilal4hmed··on Board Changes at Signal
One thing Id really like to see is cross OS transfer. I feel Im locked in to my OS because of Signal right now as Ill lose messages. There are some messages I dont want lost and sadly having them in signal is a bummer.

This is where whatsapp just excels

bilal4hmed··on Board Changes at Signal

bilal4hmed··on EU suggests breaking up Google's ad business in preliminary antitrust ruling
Also imagine breaking one so called monopoly and giving the market away to Apple

This will no doubt impact things like android etc.

bilal4hmed··on Report reveals Android users switching to iPhone at 5-year high
4 competitors is asking a lot .. imagine the green bubble fiasco then. I think the market likes a duopoly as that is what can be supported by the devs easily.
bilal4hmed··on Report reveals Android users switching to iPhone at 5-year high
At that point I would say Nokia had that sort of prowess but their hubris overtook every thing

First it was resistive touch screens

Then it was symbian not adapted for touch , then meego not merging with symbian

They just got lost in their own thoughts
