I wonder how this will work with AI stuff generating code without any source or attribution. It’s not like the LLMs make this stuff up out of thin air it comes from source material.
bfrog··on President Trump Announces New Trump Class Battleship
The Russia Ukraine war has shown big metal objects are liabilities in the cheap plentiful drone war of the future.
bfrog··on Local AI is driving the biggest change in laptops in decades
I suppose it depends on the model, code was useless. As a lossy copy of an interactive Wikipedia it could be ok not good or great just ok.

Maybe for creative suggestions and editing it’d be ok.

bfrog··on AI is wiping out entry-level tech jobs, leaving graduates stranded
We have new grads, they could not be replaced by AI. If you have new grads AI can replace I’m not sure why it required a college degree.
bfrog··on Rust Coreutils 0.5.0 Release: 87.75% compatibility with GNU Coreutils
Isn't this putting it in the Java territory?

bfrog··on Leaving Intel
Intel losing great people at high speed. Not the first, not the last.
bfrog··on X210Ai is a new motherboard to upgrade ThinkPad X201/200
I love the x220 chassis, I wonder what it’d take to make a board with a modern risc chip and open firmware for Linux for this sort of thing.
bfrog··on Moss: a Rust Linux-compatible kernel in 26,000 lines of code
This should be the sort of red flag to take note of. There’s an LLVM fork for every esoteric architecture now and this sort of thinking will lead to never being able to run your own software on your own hardware again. A reversion to the dark ages of computing.
bfrog··on TPUs vs. GPUs and why Google is positioned to win AI race in the long term
See here https://intel.github.io/intel-npu-acceleration-library/npu.h...

Maybe also note that Qualcomm has renamed their Hexagon DSP to Hexagon NN. Likely the change was adding activation functions but otherwise its a VLIW architecture with accelerated MAC operations, aka a DSP architecture.

bfrog··on TPUs vs. GPUs and why Google is positioned to win AI race in the long term
DSP is simply a compute architecture that focuses on mutliply and accumulate operations on particular numerical formats, often either fixed point q15/q31 type values or floats f16/f32.

The basic operation that a NN needs accelerating is... go figure multiply and accumulate with the added activation function.

See for example how the Intel NPU is structured here: https://intel.github.io/intel-npu-acceleration-library/npu.h...

bfrog··on TPUs vs. GPUs and why Google is positioned to win AI race in the long term
We used to call these things DSPs
bfrog··on In wake of Windows 10 retirement, over 780K Windows users skip Win 11 for Linux
Well intel did layoff 45k people or so recently.. surely no coincidence
bfrog··on AMD continues to chip away at Intel's x86 market share
I got a 265kf and motherboard for 350. Plenty fast and saves money for the real issue which is GPU costs. Thankfully B580 is actually a pretty good deal as well at 250 compared to green or red options. Team blue has some good deals out there really if you aren't tied to a team color.

bfrog··on Microsoft's lack of quality control is out of control
Quantity yes, quality no.
bfrog··on Nvidia has produced the first Blackwell wafer on US soil
Aren’t TSM fabs in the US little islands of Taiwanese workers? How is this domestic knowledge and manufacturing not exactly?
bfrog··on Apple M5 chip
I mean if the experience is as good as any x86 laptop I'd try it in terms of installing any linux distro I want. No interest in android/chromeos myself.
bfrog··on Apple M5 chip
The big win would be a linux capable device. I don't have any interest in mac os x but the apple m parts always seem amazing.

In theory this would be where qualcomm would come in and provide something but in practice they seem to be stuck in qualcomm land where only lawyers matter and actual users and developers can get stuffed.

bfrog··on Python 3.14 is here. How fast is it?
tl;dr... It's still not fast
bfrog··on Qualcomm to acquire Arduino
dragonwing docs are where?
bfrog··on Qualcomm to acquire Arduino
Uno Q... zero docs available for this dragonwing part from qualcomm, I'd say I'm shocked but... par for the course.

I wonder how this will effect Arduino moving forward.

bfrog··on A mechanic offered a reason why no one wants to work in the industry
Electric cars need a lot fewer mechanical repairs. Sounds like yet more reasons to avoid buying one of these overpriced over complicated petro vehicles.
bfrog··on Zig builds are getting faster
I hope cranelift continues to grow too. LLVM tragically has become fork hell. Every cpu vendor now seems to have a fork with enhancements for their cpu arch in some closed source package. It’s hellish as soon as you want to use another language frontend or find the inevitable compiler bug.
bfrog··on Boeing has started working on a 737 MAX replacement
I wonder if they will try for a blended wing
bfrog··on Snapdragon X2 Elite ARM Laptop CPU
This is exactly the issue with Qualcomm. If they actually had datasheets/ref manuals/open drivers... it'd be a no brainer. The part looks great.

The reality is this company is notoriously a law firm with a small technical staff on the side.

bfrog··on Redox OS Development Priorities for 2025/26
The wild thing here with a microkernel is that the syscall API to the actual kernel should be theoretically really small right?

I get the various little services might change, but ultimately the kernel supporting posix like threading and memory operations should be mostly enough?

bfrog··on Snapdragon X2 Elite ARM Laptop CPU
Did qualcomm ever get its act together with firmware/drivers and linux? It's a dead end to me if they aren't at an Intel/AMD level of openness on this front.
bfrog··on Zig feels more practical than Rust for real-world CLI tools
Because it doesn't actually enforce anything and lets you blow your foot off just like C?
