bertzzie··on Transform Ubuntu 12.04 Into Mac OS X Lion
the customization is ugly?
bertzzie··on Transform Ubuntu 12.04 Into Mac OS X Lion
just to show off the power of customization in Ubuntu (or Linux in general)?

The GNOME-shell can be customized to behave like GNOME-2 to an extent. It might be interesting to see how far can we go...

Is it usually that easy to do in Ubuntu (or Linux) in general? I think customization using CSS is really great. Maybe we could discuss that?
bertzzie··on Transform Ubuntu 12.04 Into Mac OS X Lion
It's interesting to see Linux' customization power. It's not only look like a real OS X, it's also really easy to do. Can someone comment about the user experience? There should be many little things that's different between OS X and Ubuntu's experience right? I have not use OS X or Ubuntu much to comment, but if that's easy to change too, it will be a really interesting thing to see.

"Cultural icon" means Glass will be the next iPhone, I think.
bertzzie··on Best Practices Exist For A Reason
Also relevant: Most best practices exist without explanation. We are supposed to just use it without question. I think that's what Issac meant with "fears and lies" (not that I agree with his statement). Raymond Chen puts it great:

Good advice comes with a rationale so you can tell when it becomes bad advice. If you don't understanding why something should be done, then you've fallen into the trap of cargo cult programming, and you'll keep doing it even when it's no longer necessary or even becomes deleterious.

bertzzie··on Gabe Newell Talks Linux Steam Client, Source Engine
It's a HP Pavillion g4 (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.js...)

I've tried many distro without luck, but the next Ubuntu is giving me some hope (I came across this recently: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450).

bertzzie··on Gabe Newell Talks Linux Steam Client, Source Engine
Maybe he is not allowed to talk yet. I can't wait for the official client and game, because I think when the games start rolling in, the video driver and other problems in Linux will be fixed faster. Then I could use Linux again. It's sad that I currently can't run Linux reliably because of my dual-graphic card (sandy bridge + ati) notebook :(
bertzzie··on Earthquake of magnitude 8.7 strikes off Sumatra, Indonesia
I live in Indonesia, and there was Tsunami, about 30 minutes ago, as reported by local news TV. Two Tsunamis even, one 80 cm and another 60cm. My familly still feels many earthquakes after the first one, untill now. I live in Java, so I can't really feel the quake, but all my family's in North Sumatra, almost point-blank from the quake.
bertzzie··on [dead]
This is really a strange feature. I try to search around, but can't find why they're doing this. Anyone have a clue why would they (the PHP dev or the community) want this feature?
