bellerose··on Eating more fruit and vegetables 'improves mental wellbeing'
I agree & speculate that mental wellbeing has everything to do with finances. Including if a person develops a mental illness; of course there will be cases where the person is financially well off. Approximately 75% of suicides occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where rates of poverty are high. sources: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5454768/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3431736/ https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/suicide/index.html
bellerose··on Office Space turns 20: How the film changed the way we work
It might have been whoever was funding the movie then. found the ending: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK43Ureuiqc
bellerose··on Small World: The Tiny House Trend
I'm a millennial and I don't see a house in my future. I wouldn't want one of these tiny homes. The market for them is trying to sell the environmental friendly niche and it's just nonsense to me. The person who lives in the homes are the ones that make the impact or not. Similar, I haven't heard of other millennials desiring these tiny places to call one's own. The few persons I know who like to watch youtube videos about them, are my parents generation and who own what I consider a mansion with a lot of land. Life is filled with irony.
bellerose··on Office Space turns 20: How the film changed the way we work
I remember reading a comment on youtube about the ending of the movie. Supposedly who ever wrote the script wanted something to happen where Peter would detest his new job in construction. The director didn't want it and so the ending is a happy one.
bellerose··on Our physiological processes become increasingly simple as we age
I think fasting is a process helping me against the aging peril. I'm not convinced if it will help me live longer (if nothing else goes wrong) but I can say my focus is increased and compared if I ate 2-3 meals per day. I'm skeptical if fasting triggers cells into the claimed "garbage collect" process or if my focus is just a hunter gather sense of I'm in danger from low calories kicking in. I assume endurance exercise is the best for the mind. I doubt non-physical games directed at improving thinking really help at all. The only supplement I've had benefit with is fish oil.
bellerose··on One Lawyer, One Day, 194 Felony Cases
I'm assuming the candidates prefer issues they can relate towards and they typically have the funds for good attorneys. The public that hasn't been effected by false incarceration may have the belief it won't happen to myself and the issue doesn't resonate necessarily like other issues of employment & taxes.
bellerose··on Facebook has been paying people to install a “Research” VPN
To me this is a reflection of society at this point. Monitoring & tracking of online activity was something to be avoided when I was young. I can only assume something like this would harm the reputation back then and people would go elsewhere. Although, $20 per month makes me wonder if my past self would have cared and all my info would be data mined. I doubt in the end I went unexploited in some way and likely I missed out on little money that's now being offered because of more secure devices.
bellerose··on Ask HN: Is it just me, or is CSS too damn hard?
CSS isn’t bad after writing it a lot and googling the same tricks to do what typically works. My best advice is to stick to some framework for most UI (material or bootstrap) with using custom css seldom. Colors are definitely an art form and matter a lot.
bellerose··on iOS 12.2 Beta: Progressive Web App Capabilities
The resuming state after leaving the PWA is awesome. My hobby project is a PWA but has a bug now since the beta where all user interaction is lost when resuming the state. I have a hunch it has to do with google maps and it's fun trying to figure it out right now.
bellerose··on Rural America's “brain drain”: How student debt is emptying small towns
I think student loans factor into the equation. Although, it certainly isn’t just student loans being the problem.

Cost of homes are making ownership unattainable, with the student loans making the lenders refuse to offer a mortgage. My parents era had an extra surplus of homes built and where cost of renting was low with middle class homes needing to be sold. It appears someone had the bright idea to limit construction for the requirements of the next generation and all the previous owners now hold market power or it simply just happened by an over increasing population. Rent has gone up everywhere and it doesn’t matter where you’re located.

The US government created unnecessary debt by the war in Iraq; where public funding changed hands to pay for the war. The banking crisis in 09 was bailed out by the government unnecessarily. The economy crashes as a result of many factors including this.

Universities constantly increasing tuition, the motto college is required becomes a reality and where the entry degrees are now similar to holding a high school diploma. Also why not throw in the debt inducing cost of healthcare if an emergency happens where a service of saving your life can ruin it.

The millennials are resentful of the previous generation throwing their futures away, letting it all happen and knowing social security benefits are drying up as well. The whole thing is a cluster fuck and where some people are okay making a divide by expressing its not necessarily bad. Basically there is a lot of arrogance towards self admiration if you’re doing alright or had parents take the bill. The previous generations didn’t approach their circumstances like that from my understanding. I think my generation is either narcissistic or deluded by excess Facebook, Netflix, who has an android vs an iPhone and other nonsense resulting in loss of the big picture being quality of life. A lot of social conditioning helped the con.

bellerose··on Students learn from people they love
I learned outside of school to read and write. Even how to work as a group from active social activities outside of school. Group activities in school didn't promote real strengths because the activities could have been done alone. Yet, I succeeded as a person who could work as a group by the strengths learned outside of school in social activities.

I'm a software developer who was self taught online. All social skills with others at work were as stated developed from social experiences outside school. Forums or even reddit helped me progress in writing. I think school isn't necessary if motivated and the field of interest doesn't require legal obligations to meet by some degree or specialist program. The education system is arguably similar to any other capitalist entity and desiring society to feel it's needed or required. It's a real shame because it's a debt machine in a poor economy where the previous generation didn't need a degree and could get a home in their name young.

bellerose··on Students learn from people they love
Same can be said about people students hate. If a child hates his or her parents, the child will learn everything to be nothing like their parents. I think the article is a fluff piece. School was a complete waste of time for myself. The only benefit was for social connections. Everything useful I learned "career wise" was from online and where I found good C++ videos that got me into programming. I doubt much has changed and even expect it's becoming even more dominate where you have a better chance of succeeding if you're a self learner who can navigate online to whatever is needed to be learned.
bellerose··on Americans misperceive racial economic equality
The psychological impact one may have, from knowing their own ancestors were once slaves and so abused by being a different race. Must play a part in the inequality. I’ve never asked someone how it may bring paranoia or anxiety but it probably helps anger a person in situations of less certainty of being wronged by negligence vs malice. It must mentally hinder a person. People were intelligent in history and even during slavery. So it must make reality questionable. Usually this bounces in my head a lot. I find the world really sad thinking about it.
bellerose··on What It’s Like to Be a Diagnosed Narcissist
I think children get really harmed by parents who happen to be narcissists. I’ve seen a lot of hurt on Reddit about being raised by narcissists and It’s almost as if children of these parents should have been warned growing up and so they could have avoided the pain of realizing the love is different than normal. I think healcare needs to focus on the family development with a narcastic parental figure and similar to other illnesses.
