bellerose··on How random can you be?
I find people that think they have real choice over their actions as strange. Free will is an illusion when you understand determinism.
bellerose··on How random can you be?
Quantum mechanics theoretically is just another deterministic universe or hidden variables and effecting our deterministic universe to appear random but in reality is deterministic.
bellerose··on Uber Not Criminally Liable in Death of Woman Hit by Self-Driving Car
It may be the downfall of humanity progress as well and things may change.
bellerose··on Uber Not Criminally Liable in Death of Woman Hit by Self-Driving Car
Of course it’s a religion. People are deluded to think otherwise.
bellerose··on Uber Not Criminally Liable in Death of Woman Hit by Self-Driving Car
Since everyone was socially conditioned to desire and believe in free will. Similar to the past with God but I would have been hanged. It will change and it’s her not him.
bellerose··on Uber Not Criminally Liable in Death of Woman Hit by Self-Driving Car
> "how can we prevent this same accident from ever happening again?"

It would be nice if society adopted this with all crimes. It's not like we can prove we're any different than the low level design of a machine; when it comes to the "free will" ideology currently the justice system is designed around.

bellerose··on A PhD state of mind (2018)
I wouldn't go after a PhD unless being born into a rich family (with a potential fall back). Otherwise its a ticket to an early grave and or lost earning potential. I've encountered a few colleagues who are beyond gifted in what makes them survive the trial. I had a roommate finishing his masters and going for the PhD afterwards. Guy was making bank by prostituting himself to women every few nights. Slept till noon before going to work on his research. I cannot imagine how hard it must be if someone is pursuing the degree without any wealth helping him/her out. I doubt scholarships would be much if any relief. I definitely can see persons ending up in psych wards or taking their life if it becomes too much.
bellerose··on Disputed NSA Phone Program Is Shut Down, Aide Says
It's not really a needle in haystack problem. If you record every moment of all your citizens. You can build a calendar application where you enter the name of the person and go through all the moments in question throughout the days of curiosity. Specifically when that person is under suspicions of some criminal involvement. I feel sorry for china because I can only imagine how much more data besides just phone calls are collected from citizens unaware.
bellerose··on Is Ethical A.I. Even Possible?
No. What I see people describing as ethical is not correct when people have no choice. It's also not meaningless to live with knowing free will is an illusion. Hard to really reply to such a dismissive assertion.
bellerose··on Is Ethical A.I. Even Possible?
> If ethics could be codified I think we'd have one ruleset everyone agrees on.

People want to deeply believe this as true. I find it false because I see free will as an illusion. Majority of people think free will exists. Agreement on ethics cannot exist with this conflict because it inherently effects morality.

bellerose··on There May Be Money in Internet Art After All (1999)
I'm aware of ridiculous money payed towards artists online creating furry art. This specific subculture is the highest paying to artists that I'm aware of and for artists to trade their time for creating an image the client desires. The amount payed is apparently enough for artists to live while satisfying their clients. The clients will typically post the finished work online for everyone.
bellerose··on A psychiatrist who didn’t believe in mental illness (2013)
The more I read of psychiatry makes me lean towards the majority of it being pseudoscience. Finances play the most important role in suicidal ideation but nothing is ever done for the people suffering from suicide attempts besides placing them in a facility for an extended period and medicating them. Some of the drugs have even been shown to induce gambling. How in the world does someone escape a life where all the cards are dealt against them is unknown to me. In this world you spend more money when poor to live healthy than if starting out rich and it’s harder to save or increase your holdings while poor. Stress is definitely the deciding factor in if a person can stay happy and happiness is the only factor to really care about; besides physical health but they come hand in hand. I think the field is improving but I have a bias by living in a progressive city where the old beliefs are highly questioned and rarely followed. I think psychiatry will go down in history next to the holocaust. Too many people were ruined compared to being helped.
bellerose··on Sunlight through glass does not provide Vitamin D
My personal experience with nutrition makes me consider the childhood years as the deciding factor in regards to living healthy without much time or resources allocated towards personal health. There are outliers, such as genetics and parenting will limit a child or not but I can only assume it’s a struggle starting unhealthy in the early to late 20s. All my childhoods friends that were into skateboarding, biking or another intense activity from sun rise to sunset cannot put on weight. Typically have healthy skin unless acne prone and are very coordinated with balancing. The reason this article compelled me to write is because the next generation of parenting is restricting kids from the freedom of outside activities unless a parent is there with the kids. There will be a lot of lacking factors besides vitamin D and it’s terrible to think about. I’ve been a person who has most of my life believed that deterrents should exist against parents who let there kids become unhealthy. It seems we’re heading the opposite direction.
bellerose··on WiFi Hides Inside a USB Cable
Huh? What I wrote is basically saying privacy doesn't exist for the ones who truly need it. Since those two cases you write in question are pretty much universal and the majority of people using technology would be prone to them. Unless they're not using any form of technology.
bellerose··on WiFi Hides Inside a USB Cable
Huh, so all it takes is someone to break into your home when you're gone and swap a cable. Seems like privacy doesn't really exist for people who truly need it. Unless they're not using any technology.
bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
That's a fallacy you're constructing. I have known persons who are into nihilism and they would argue the same that nothing matters with free will. I don't believe the exchange was meaningless because my friend will be reading these replies and have more experience in conversing with doctors. She get's similar responses to what you convey when arguing her position. Btw if you're downvoting my responses on an other account. You're extremely childish if so. The only reason I assume this is the case because the other is reply old enough to where I assume it's the case. People are not supposed to be using the downvoting system in a childish manner is what I believe is true for hackernews.
bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
That is a made up justification to force a person into living in a broken system when in unbearable pain. While ignoring the person who wishes to end her life and exerting one's will forcibly upon another who is not privileged.
bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
>It is an active choice made by those who want to end their own life

That is your ideology being forced upon persons who desire death. There is no proof that people have free will and every death (suicide or death by cancer) is a natural death if free will doesn't exist.

> would it not be better to choose the 'death' the allows the person to continue to live?

That sounds like a worse fate if I was in the situation.

> It is nihilistic if you, and your coworker, believe that past a certain age threshold (or any other arbitrary measure) a disease/mental condition is untreatable and the best alternative is suicide.

That is just a forceful opinion upon labeling others and who just believe they should have will over their own death when the pain is unbearable. Her case is suffering from puberty and being conditioned throughout her life to be a certain way. She missed her youth, early adulthood and shouldn't be forced to live in today's society where she is constantly reminded of the abuse. She believes the best solution is suicide for herself. I only agree with her and think people should have authority over their own death after long talks with her.

bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
Improvement to mental healthcare would be removing the restrictions of medical assistance in dying and making it similar to a person who is going to die from suicide when they’re being honest about how the illness is forcing it upon them.

The part you quoted from me is what research show in regarding gender dysphoria that goes untreated past puberty. There isn’t much positivity for the latter and drugging a person so their perception changes isn’t necessarily what I think is much different than suicide of the person. Similar to how in the past conversion therapy was used to destroy the person and create a new person.

Anyway I don’t believe I’m being nihilistic and I can righteously think it’s people putting their own ideology first in refusing my friend the ability to have her wishes granted.

bellerose··on YouTube Unleashed a Conspiracy Theory Boom. Can It Be Contained?
I don't think the article is even fact based to assume youtube has created a conspiracy theory boom. I remember the dial-up age and people typically knew some corner on the web for reading conspiracy theories to get some laughs. When 9/11 happened there were those conspiracy documentaries and this was before youtube was what it is today. My guess if a boom is being created. The reason is from people being crafter at getting people absorbed in the conspiracy theories. Maybe the health & happiness of society has decreased and where people are now easily absorbed into conspiracy theories. Misery is a beast that pulls people into time sink holes to escape reality.
bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
I don't see how what I wrote is a what-if example. Maybe you can clarify more and I'll do as well.

The person who I know suffering gender dysphoria has been pursuing medical assistance in dying in Canada. She has been seeking it by going to Doctors for multiple years and with a psychiatrist following her.

She is a rational person who approaches it as any other chronic illness with tremendous pain. She deeply expresses how the majority of her life was stolen from her because of the illness and not being able to obtain treatment young for it because of parental figures & bad doctors.

She believes she is valid in getting the procedure to end her life compared to anyone else. Doctors will tell her she has valid points but will refuse to say much and skirt her out of their offices whenever they have a chance. She is not irrational.

I know for a fact the belief of everyone should continue living because the "what if game of it may get better" is irrational. She has had her life stolen from her and continues to live in pain but for the chance to have some humanity given to her (a safe way to die). She usually doesn't eat anything to divert her conscious to starving and where she will not focus on much. I'm a co-worker/friend of hers.

bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
Who cares about the what if game. A system should be in place for persons who are in pain that want to successfully end it. No free will exists until such a system exists.
bellerose··on Things I Wish I’d Known Before My Chronic Illness
I think we should just let people be allowed to die by medical assisted death and be it mental or physical pain (whatever illness). I've known persons with gender dysphoria who want to end their life and they're rational people. The medical system even has assisted death but ignores these people in pain and they turn to self suicide. Some fail and end up in worse states emotionally & financially.
bellerose··on Etsy sellers say their bank accounts were emptied in major billing snafu
Yah I think it's a good thing. I have a password manager so it's only a few clicks to paste the card number in. I'm guessing the majority of consumers are annoyed by it.
bellerose··on Etsy sellers say their bank accounts were emptied in major billing snafu
I'm in Canada and I've had to confirm details on my card. I guess outside US thing.
bellerose··on Etsy sellers say their bank accounts were emptied in major billing snafu
I’m a buyer and made a couple purchase last night on Etsy. All my credit card info was saved on checkout with no verification required to use the card. Surprised me in comparison to how Amazon or other retailers typically require the full card number be re-entered on checkout. I understand this is different but seems like a bad convenience trade off.
bellerose··on Minimum-wage worker needs 2.5 full-time jobs to afford a one-bedroom apartment
Too many people exist compared to the past. Optimization has made it where less employees can cater compared to the past. People used to die earlier in life and inheritance was more of an impact upon spending. I doubt we're even seeing the worst situations from people living off minimum wage. Give it 20 more years and people will riot (if not already) or universal income will have rolled out by then.

I live close to my employer and take Uber when I rarely need to go somewhere far. A good amount of the drivers I've spoken to, have a middle class job and they're driving on the side. They do it for a few hours after work or on weekends and typically are raising a family. Minimum & even middle wage isn't what it used to be. A stay at home parent used to be possible for middle class and not only if you're in the upper range is when it can be feasible. Unless the stay at home parent can do work at home on the side it's not possible anymore for the low tiers.

bellerose··on Attacking a Pay Wall That Hides Public Court Filings
The obvious wrong about Pacer is when a person doesn't have the financial means and wants to pursue by pro se.

The law was constructed in the interest of the public and self representation was deemed reasonable for justice to be always administered when a wrong has been committed and a person wants to seek a verdict.

Well if you're a person who has low finances and in a situation where no lawyer will take your case by interest or financial reasons. You can still file a lawsuit and have the filing fees waived. The problem will be how much it costs to print copies for yourself, the number of defendants and the judge (court). People underestimate how much is needed to print if you're unable to electronically file. Lawyers have access to the online filing system but pro se doesn't necessarily (depending on the state) and has to file in paper with mailing everything out.

Further more, the defendants may be a corporate entity with expensive lawyers on retainers, who have full access to every previous court verdict (similar to the situation) on PACER. They likely have a local database of the downloaded documents and where they can do advance searches. On the other hand the pro se is restricted by PACER in fear of the financial bill when searching and viewing documents to find something similar to his/her own situation.

bellerose··on Human psychology and behavioral studies overlook 85 percent of people
I’m surprised that is a recent discovery. I would think if someone asked a group of kids why someone would get the problem wrong. They would be like well first time seeing shapes.
bellerose··on Human psychology and behavioral studies overlook 85 percent of people
Locus of control is another way of understanding how humans are not necessarily universal to one another by how events are perceived. The missing shape example might just be the children never encounter the square & triangles in daily life and are thrown off it. I don't really consider that a great example for showing how behavioural is different.
