Are you actually that dense, or are you being obtuse? Of course, the initial loan amount is owed. So when I say a debt is attached, it means it's added on top of the loan amount, that's called interest.

What I mean by scrapping interest, is that no extra debt is created when money is loaned after being printed. If 500 is loaned, 500 is owed. The way it currently is, the loan amount is owed plus interest, creating a debt that can never be paid because there isn't enough money in existence to pay it.

The Germans had a saying - "One Mark for one Mark's worth of work or goods produced". This is how they solved the inevitable hyperinflation of the international system.

They went from a situation where you couldn't buy a loaf of bread with a barrel of Marks, to being the richest nation in Europe within 3 years. That's why WW2 happened, it was a clash of economic ideologies.

No, governments don't control the money printing machines.

Scrapping interest means that when the money is loaned after being printed, there isn't a debt attached to it.

Yeah, it's actually crazy just how much every open address gets spammed. You freak out like why are there thousands of attempts to login to my server that I haven't advertised at all, then you Google it and find out it's just the normal state of the internet.
beginnings··on Vercel Service Markup
Set up fail2ban then good luck to anyone to anyone trying your address, it's very simple. Ensuring upgrades and security patches is literally running sudo apt update and sudo apt upgrade. Should be a piece of cake for anyone who has been running Linux for a few years.

What percentage of projects ever need that scale? Is it not something crazy like 95% of startups fail? A lot of the successful ones will be in niche categories as well that just don't have scale problems like major social media and tech companies.
beginnings··on Vercel Service Markup
A whole industry has sprung around charging front end developers for basic server management tasks. They will quite literally pay for anything that means they don't have to SSH into Ubuntu server. The irony is they are taking on a ton of overhead with multiple services instead of learning how to set up Nginx and sudo apt install Postgres.

National governments should control their own money, scrap interest entirely. Let the market decide what each currency is worth for international trading.

The status quo international banking system is designed to enslave, and governments can't do anything about it because the banks are above them.

How anyone can defend the current system is beyond me. It's not remotely close to being the best we can do, it's a scam at every level, way more complicated that it needs to be, by design.

beginnings··on To Type or Not to Type?
I don't have any problems getting functions to work or reading the docs to use APIs, so typescript isn't solving anything for me there.

I wouldn't mind using a very minimal amount of typescript, basically JS with proper Enums, typed function parameters, and return types, but there seems to be a ton of hurdles to jump just to get started with it.

If I was working for a company, I'd be happy to spend 6 months of their time learning how to use it properly, but I don't think I can justify it for myself right now, I don't have the time to be fighting with a code editor for weeks/months.

beginnings··on Tech Jobs Going Extinct
I'm doubtful copilot increases productivity by 55% after using it, it saves a lot of typing on easy code but typing speed is never the bottleneck. Unless they have a bunch of positions doing stuff that doesn't require any thinking, which is possible considering they apparently hired hundreds of thousands of people they didn't need.

beginnings··on Long before trees overtook the land, Earth was covered by prototaxites (2013)
Sounds like a big number but thats just the nature of this reality, hundreds of thousands of people die every day. The virus that we were tricked into thinking was a significant event by global media is in the same category as the flu, which has been killing 0.01 forever with no fanfare.

Covid was statistically insignificant in the grand scheme of human health. The reality is we are mostly a herd species, the group experiments show that people will conform to false information against their better judgement to not go against the group.

Its not about intelligence, there are plenty of idiots who knew covid was a scam from day one and plenty of smart people who probably still think it was real to this day despite all the evidence showing it was massively overblown.

I think that it was overblown by design, as part of a bigger agenda, rather than incompetence. And the whole death thing doesnt get me anyway, I think death is relief in most cases and should be celebrated.

We are part of something far greater than these bodies, it seems like we come here as a game to pretend we dont know anything about reality. When you die you will see we know everything, but I wonder if you will remember I told you so.

beginnings··on As a software developer, how do you test your design?
I don't design or test, that sounds like some stuff you'd be forced to do in school. It's stepping stones, I don't know where the next one will be but I know ill work it out when I get there. I build in a pretty modular, loosely coupled way, the correct structures reveal themselves as you go, you'd need to be a Tesla level genius to work it all out from the start and not make mistakes.

I handle the things i'm aware of in the code, and I cant test for things i'm not aware of so it makes no sense to me. Generally once I've built something that's it bombproof, nothing stops working because there is no reason for it to.

beginnings··on Show HN: A C++ web/application framework I have been building for the last 12yrs
Yeah web is pretty crazy, I only got into it recently but ive noticed that the major frameworks are not really rivals like their users, they are all sharing ideas and maybe it's converging towards a bit more stability. Im bullish on SolidJS to live up to the name, the creator Ryan Carniato has a wealth of knowledge in that area having been through the whole web roller coaster, and he is getting close to "this is how it should be done".
beginnings··on Show HN: A C++ web/application framework I have been building for the last 12yrs
For me, the main driver for using c++ with anything is performance. I use Drogon and its exceptional, there is some initial pain when you pick it up for the first time but that's probably the case with Rust alternatives as well. Once you set up and get used to how it works its a breeze to use, the CLI tool makes it easy to add web sockets and controllers, and it has very nice database and JSON integration as well, although I do use Rapidjson for heavy lifting rather than the default.

One of the big gains I have found is you end up with a really nicely structured, rock solid c++ project that is painless to return to even after 6 months, you just pick it up and go. I find coming back to python or javascript projects that I need to sit with the editor open for days before I can get a good handle on things and be productive again. As a solo dev that is important to me as moving between backend, frontend and data tools, you can only can keep one section loaded in Ape RAM at a time.
