bdlowery··on Ask HN: What is something you built but never marketed?
This is pretty cool. How much are you thinking of charging monthly for it?
bdlowery··on Reddit’s database has two tables (2012)
https://remoteok.com and https://nomadlist.com both use SQLite as the database. 100+ million requests a month and there's been no problems.
bdlowery··on Astro 1.0 – a web framework for building fast, content-focused websites
Looks cool, but I think you missed a big opportunity to charge money for this.

PHP is pretty great. No NPM needed
bdlowery··on GraphQL kinda sucks
Yeah… but Shopify forces me to use it when accessing their storefront api.
bdlowery··on Lightyear One
Tesla already considered this and they came to the conclusion it wasn’t worth it at all. Made the cars more expensive too, which is highlighted by the fact this car costs $255,000.
bdlowery··on Robinhood lays off 23% of staff
Every brokerage does that with fractional shares though. It’s not unique to Robinhood.

Source on your first point? Sounds a conspiracy from r/superstonk
bdlowery··on Ask HN: Do newsletters work? Why do websites push them so much?
Following a giant company on social media is pointless. A large majority of their posts are dumb memes, or clever ways to be funny. It’s never anything of substance.
bdlowery··on US regulators to examine Boeing 737 Max production
I’ve flown on the Max at least 10 times now. They’re being used everywhere around the globe daily, and they’re being produce too.
bdlowery··on Brave Search passes 2.5B queries, allows users to choose search rankings
The only thing missing from your post is

“- sent from Google Chrome”

bdlowery··on System Preferences Reimagined on macOS
In what world is a 2 hour battery life laptop better than a laptop with a 20 hour battery and amazing performance?

The OS is perfectly fine.

bdlowery··on SQLite 3 Fiddle
“Sqlite doesn’t scale”

Dude gets 172 million requests a month.

bdlowery··on DigitalOcean: New $4 Droplet and updated pricing
Armchair hacker news CEO knows what is REALLY going on behind the scenes at digital ocean.
bdlowery··on You can create a great looking website while sucking at design
This is the correct answer. ALWAYS start with the content first. The content will lead the way with the design.
bdlowery··on You can create a great looking website while sucking at design
This article is incredibly terrible. Use tailwind? Yikes. How about you use normal css, have consistent spacing between elements, and have a clear hierarchy of type and content?

You don’t need tailwind to do any of that, and you don’t need to be “good at design” to do any of that either.

bdlowery··on Yep, I created the new Avatar font
A Sans-serif font is totally fine for body copy.
bdlowery··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
M1 MacBooks have better performance than the top tier X1C, and 2x the battery life.

Seems kind of weird paying for something that is just worse.

bdlowery··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
Love me some plastic frame laptops
bdlowery··on Ask HN: What’s a good laptop for software development at around $2k?
“Battery life is important to me”

You’ll only find that with a MacBook. All other laptops have terrible battery life. But since you don’t want a MacBook… looks like your shit out of luck.

bdlowery··on The absurd complexity of server-side rendering
Just use PHP.
bdlowery··on Apple introduces new version of iMovie featuring Storyboards and Magic Movie
Why not just Buy Final Cut Pro or screenflow? I’d rather pay $149 (screenflow) for for a product that just works vs wasting hours of my time trying to get something setup.
bdlowery··on People who press on cookie banners anything except “agree” – why do you do that?
If you don’t accept or decline the cookie pop up I’m pretty sure every website treats it as a “yes you can track me”.

Like those websites that have a banner stating “by using this website you agree to let us track you with cookies”

bdlowery··on Design of This Website (2021)
Oh, I didn't realize that. When I move it to my own server that shouldn't be an issue. The peprojects.dev domain is for student work. Thanks for the tip!
bdlowery··on Design of This Website (2021)
Every website listed under your projects are examples of minimalism. The other guy should visit those projects and take some hardcore notes, but he's too busy being an asshole to everyone criticizing his terrible website.
bdlowery··on Design of This Website (2021)
Yeah. The dude is a Grade-A asshole. His site is complete garbage, yet he insists that it's amazing. I've never seen someone so confidently wrong in every single reply to criticism ever.
bdlowery··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
Something to fix: I click on an article but there's no way to go back to the homepage.
bdlowery··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
Fuck dude.
bdlowery··on Ask HN: Why aren't devs making desktop apps any more?
Because windows users don’t buy desktop apps. If you want to develop a desktop app you need to develop it for MacOS.

http://cleanshot.com — an app like this would never make it on windows. But that app has thousands of subscribers paying monthly to use it on MacOS.

bdlowery··on MDN Plus
I'd pay if I could get the old theme back.
