Thanks for sharing this, it's crazy how much super fast experiences still surprise us.
However, I think you make a great point that the two are interrelated.
My straw man starting point would be: A poor user experience that is lightning fast can still be a great experience.
But a great user experience that lags or is slow will typically not be successful.
The iphone succeeded because it coupled a great user experience that was so fast that it felt like interacting with objects in the real world.
For my simple sites it feels like hosting is just solved. Every time I rev my site I just push to git and I’m done.
The issue was caused by my immune system acting up which would cause my tendons to become inflamed. After a year of misdiagnosis, Doctors found some heavy medication (methotrexate balanced with plaquenil) to help regulate it. One of the medicines side effects was listed as ‘death’ on the label.
After a year of experimenting, I found that major diet changes (lots more hearty greens, way less sugar and carbs, no caffeine or alcohol), improved sleep, reduced stress (quit my stressful job) completely alleviated my symptoms. I would still have flare ups from time to time which I reduced via physical therapy / exercise (to strengthen muscles supporting my tendons).
Just sharing as I had a somewhat similar condition and was surprised that the fix didn’t have to be a pill.
Two minor suggestions: 1. On mac the undo mappings would normally be CMD+Z. Not sure if it's possible to map this in the browser or not but took me a moment to find Ctrl+Z (via menus).
2. The starting geometry is a circle with a flesh-colored tone. Not sure if this is randomized but it leads to quickly creating weird human-ish shapes. It also defaults to a mirrored circular/spherical brush. May want to consider a different default tone as you'll likely get lots of female anatomy drawn w/ the current settings.
I have a level editor I rolled after frustration with tiled and end up using for all of my projects. Every time it’s not quite right and I discover some basic bugs. Feels like I spend more time fixing bugs than making levels.
On the contrary, sites like google/Facebook (and apps like Instagram or Snapchat) are incredibly well optimized as they stay within their own 1st party ad tech.
Interesting trends to keep an eye on.
* How to use metrics when you suck at metrics.
* What are the 3 metrics you should look at every day (broken down by type of project)
* How to build a diverse team of PMs
* The best PMs I’ve ever seen do... (anecdotes from amazing PMs)
* The worst PMs I’ve ever seen do../ (anecdotes from terrible PMs)
* How to get the most from your PM as a (designer / engineer / biz dev / etc)
* how to get the most from your (designee / Engineerin : biz dev / etc) as a PM
Very cool how recent and modern these are (along with super reputable authors)
I feel like there are a ton of nice improvements to be had from the 2015 version if they could be figured out: 1. Better Spotify integration with album cover display, playlist scroll 2. Mirror google maps to the display 3. Show any push notifications that come in via your phone 4. Display engine diagnostic info when check engine light is on 5. Display a nice background image when not in use
These are just a few features I’d personally love to see, not sure if any are at all feasible.
