bdibs··on Every Major Advertising Group Is Blasting Apple for Blocking Cookies in Safari
Glad to see it happening, props to Apple actually standing up for their customers.

Then again, I'm sure it's fairly easy for a company that doesn't rely on scraping data from their customers.

bdibs··on How to Live Without Google
I think that (among other recent events) spurred their recent advancements, making less and less of our data accessible by them at all.
bdibs··on Reported difficulties getting help on Equifax's phone lines
Active Duty means Active Duty in the military, so I'm assuming they'd require some documentation.
bdibs··on iPhone X
The keynote did say it works with hats, scarves, and glasses. It also works with face changes like growing out a beard.
bdibs··on iPhone X
It doesn't diminish their value, but it takes away from the magic and showmanship behind the whole event.
bdibs··on iPhone X
Scroll down from the upper right, near the battery/cell status icons.
bdibs··on iPhone X
iOS 11 comes with a nice feature to temporarily disable Face and Touch ID if you're ever in this type of situation. Tap the power button 5 times and that's it.
bdibs··on Mercedes-Benz will electrify its entire car lineup by 2022
I think he meant he could buy both of those instead of the Tesla.
bdibs··on Mercedes-Benz will electrify its entire car lineup by 2022
Most modern cars can/do use fully synthetic oil, which can last ~10k+ miles.
bdibs··on How do you argue with anti vaxxers?
You don’t.
bdibs··on Amazon recalls eclipse glasses
That's about right, we can't see (with our eyes at least) if the infrared or UV is being filtered.
bdibs··on Amazon recalls eclipse glasses
Check out the retail section on the AAS reputable vendors list[0].

bdibs··on How the Collison brothers turned ‘seven lines of code’ into Stripe
Don't forget about their fantastic API and documentation.
bdibs··on Ask HN: Best provider for sending transactional emails?
Why aren’t you happy with MailGun? I’m a customer and I haven’t had any issues with it.
bdibs··on AWS lets agencies carry out unconstitutional surveillence on their customers
He’s tired of surveillance so he posts publicly on a site hosted on AWS.

He’s just some disgruntled employee, clearly just trolling for attention (why post on The Donald otherwise).

bdibs··on Ask HN: What was it like when dot-com bubble collapsed during 2000-2002?
Of course, do you not?
bdibs··on On the Perceived Value of EV Certs, Commercial CAs, Phishing and Let's Encrypt
I agree, that's something I found strange in the original post.

Why ask something as esoteric as the differences between EV and DV certs to end users, instead of the differences (albeit cosmetic) they actually see.

bdibs··on On the Perceived Value of EV Certs, Commercial CAs, Phishing and Let's Encrypt
Our primary customers are younger (millennial would probably be an accurate description), “tech” oriented, males.
bdibs··on On the Perceived Value of EV Certs, Commercial CAs, Phishing and Let's Encrypt
I personally care about them, I saw about a 30% increase in conversion rate once added (vs a standard Let's Encrypt DV cert). The cert paid for itself in literally less than a couple days.
bdibs··on Apache Pulsar (Incubating)
Most projects are from large enterprises, and large enterprises use Java.
bdibs··on Ask HN: Who is willing to work for coin?
I prefer Trident Layers, sorry.
bdibs··on Making $0 in Sales in 31 Days
Fantastic point, I can't remember where, but I read somewhere people don't want to buy a drill, they want a hole.
bdibs··on Welcome to password creation hell
Safari on MacOS will suggest/generate fairly strong passwords as soon as you're on a password field:

bdibs··on How to GraphQL – A Fullstack Tutorial for GraphQL
I haven't played with the Golang server yet, but with Node you just set the resolve to something like:

resolve (root, args) { return Db.models.post.findAll({ where: args }); }

(sorry for the lack of markup, I don't know how to do anything here yet)

Here's a blog post specifically for Golang: http://alexandrutopliceanu.ro/post/graphql-with-go-and-postg...

bdibs··on How to GraphQL – A Fullstack Tutorial for GraphQL
I just read more and played with GraphQL just the other day, and it's really an amazing and powerful tool.

Save requests and bandwidth, no need for explicit version control, and to top it off an easy to use syntax? Sign me up!

I'll definitely be using this in future projects.

bdibs··on Umbrella-sharing startup loses most of its 300,000 umbrellas in its first weeks
The cases for which these companies are made are usually the "better" ones.

I'm not going to buy a new car or house every time I fly into D.C. or Los Angeles for the week, I'll just use Airbnb or Uber.

bdibs··on Don't Lower Your Expectations
I’m not the original poster, but I recommend Meditations by Marcus Aurelius highly.

I’d also check out A Guide to the Good Life by William Irvine, it’s an overview and a much less tedious read (wrote this century, haha).

bdibs··on API Security Checklist for developers
Generally you’ll just get a 403 response. There’s still authentication taking place, I’d imagine this tip in particular is just to protect from revealing any potentially dangerous identifiers.
bdibs··on Ask HN: Which books are you reading in 2017?
My current list:

- Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind

- The Silk Roads: A New History of the World

- The Autobiography of Malcolm X

bdibs··on What happens when you pay PayPal $15k in fees?
I’ve had a few hiccups with PayPal in my experience, but overall it’s pretty painless.

We currently do around $20k/mo in sales and we haven’t had a real issue in quite a while.

I must be one of the lucky ones, I guess.
