bberrry··on MPC-HC v1.7.13 is released and farewell
Going to second SMPlayer. My daily driver over VLC easily.
bberrry··on Teachers must ditch 'neuromyth' of learning styles, say scientists
I think there can be some merit to "styles". Personally I have a hard time focusing when reading something (possibly adult ADD but I haven't sought a professional opinion) which is why I find YouTube videos much more helpful if I am to learn something.
bberrry··on Show HN: See if a movie is happy or sad with sentiment analysis
Everyone realizes there outliers difficult to get right. Point is you can get quite far with a relatively naive approach.
bberrry··on A quick look at the Ikea Trådfri lighting platform
Not very surprising to me. IKEA is always very thoughtful and clever in their design of even the most mundane things. I've never seen them botch anything ever.
bberrry··on Set up a cheap cloud hosted adblocker in an hour for $2.50 a month
A lot of my phone browsing involves apps with built-in browsers (reddit, HN) so hosts-filter is more practical. Killing ads in free apps is definitely part of the equation as well. The one downside would be not being able to click sponsored links on atop Google when looking for a particular product.
bberrry··on Set up a cheap cloud hosted adblocker in an hour for $2.50 a month
My number one reason for rooting my phone is blocking ads on a hosts-file level. It also stopped me from being able to play pokemon go, which I assume is for the best.
bberrry··on WikiLeaks proposes tracking verified Twitter users’ homes, families and finances
Mind giving the source where Assange said that?
bberrry··on Ask HN: Best current model routers for OpenWRT, DD-WRT, Tomato, etc.?
RT-N66U with Advanced Tomato here. Couldn't be happier
bberrry··on The State of JavaScript – Survey results
You wouldn't happen to have a seed project with that stack by any chance? I would be very interested in trying it out.
bberrry··on The Python Paradox Is Now the Scala Paradox (2009)
Damn, that's what I do :(
bberrry··on Go 1.7 is released
That's been my feeling for a long time now. After getting spoiled by Pythons enormous standard library, other languages feel incredibly bare-bones and getting things done takes a lot more work. I wish other languages focused more on including lots of library functions.
bberrry··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
SQLite
bberrry··on Ask HN: Examples of reliable software you enjoy using
Notepad++
bberrry··on The billion-dollar CRISPR patent battle: A case of big money shaping science
Yes, everyone is concerned about the patent because we want the biologist to be poor.
bberrry··on Lumosity fined $2M for deceptive ads of “Brain Training” app
I was under the impression that Dual-n-Back[0] had real benefits. Is that not the case?

bberrry··on Hack: A typeface designed for source code
I desperately want to find a new code font to love but I always return to Consolas.
bberrry··on NASA announces discovery of Earth-like planet with earth similarity index 0.98
Would be awesome if it had a confirmed oxygen rich atmosphere.
bberrry··on Macros in Python: quasiquotes, case classes, LINQ and more
Forgive my ignorant question but why do their examples only work in REPL?
bberrry··on I Quit: What really goes on at Apple
I would be interested to hear whether the culture in the engineering departments is similar to this.
bberrry··on Why Sweden Has So Few Road Deaths
The police sometimes do random sobriety checkpoints.
bberrry··on Ask HN: What programming font do you use?
I am hugely anal about this topic and I've tried all fonts mentioned at the time of this post. In the end, Consolas has racked up the most miles during my coding and Proggy Tiny for the output console (allows you to fit quite a lot). Don't get me started on color theme.
bberrry··on Why Your Cell-Phone Bill Should Be Going Down But Isn't
Meanwhile, in "socialist hell-hole" Sweden, I have an unlimited calls, texts and 4G data plan with these speeds http://i.imgur.com/62yT2ig.png (45Mbit down, 7.5Mbit up)

It costs me ~$48 per month. I average around 10-12gb per month, but don't have to worry about any charges when tethering my laptop to the 4G.

bberrry··on What Happens to Older Developers?
That does sound nice. Did you start your own consulting company or are you employed?
bberrry··on Warren Buffett: Stay Away From Bitcoin. It's A Mirage
Imagine if we took all technology advice from 80-year olds.
bberrry··on NASA launches $35,000 bounty for improved asteroid detection algorithms
How in the world do you differentiate between so many asteroids?
bberrry··on How Radians Work in 30 Seconds
It actually is quite condescending to think that people upvoting this actually have trouble understanding the concept. It's an elegant animation and young students would benefit from seeing it.
bberrry··on Wallbase: Wallpaper search engine
Thank you for this post. I had noticed wallbase was stagnant but didn't know there was a successor in the works. Thanks for pointing it out..
bberrry··on Developer and Power Users Tool List for Windows
I agree, this is the one little app I find indispensable.
bberrry··on Developer and Power Users Tool List for Windows
I love checking out lists like this.
bberrry··on Sweden fines pirate $650,000 for illegally sharing a single film
He actually admitted to sharing 13 films illegally (accused of sharing a total of 517 films). He was an uploader on a private Swedish tracker called Swebits.org which is where the alleged crimes took place.
