batuhanicoz··on How we build an MVP on a budget with BizSpark and Azure
A bit of topic but I can't seem access apirise.com from Turkey. Connecting via VPN works.
batuhanicoz··on The next version of DuckDuckGo
I think showing only tabs[0] with the fixed header would be better? I'm not sure which part of the header is used more often though. You guys must keep some stats on the usage patterns.

And one more suggestion about this: When I click on the up arrow, focusing on the search bar would be nice. But that may be just me.

batuhanicoz··on Use a config file to SSH into a server
But it is very easy to install if you have Homebrew and I'm guessing everyone who needs ssh-copy-id would already have homebrew installed.

Just do: brew install ssh-copy-id

batuhanicoz··on Microsoft rescues XP users with emergency browser fix
For closed systems I think there is no need to upgrade.

What is the harm of not upgrading, what is the worst thing that can happen?

Of course, this is for a system that is not connected to the outside world.

Have you looked into [Buffer](https://bufferapp.com/)?
batuhanicoz··on IPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program
You should get an appointment for the Genius Bar so you don't wait, at least in Turkey. I'm assuming all Apple Store's are the same?
batuhanicoz··on IPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program
In Turkey they replace any iPhone with broken home button or sleep/wake button given it is within it's warranty time. And it takes roughly 10-15 minutes to walk into the Apple Store and walk out with the new phone.

Replaced two phones in the past 2 weeks.

batuhanicoz··on ExpressJS 4.0 has been released
I have been looking/thinking for the best way to implement something like the new Router functionality for 3 days now.

This is very good news for me.

Also, how to migrate guide can be found here: https://github.com/visionmedia/express/wiki/Migrating%20from...

batuhanicoz··on How I Hacked a Router
Oh yes, I missed that fact. Sorry.

But if you control the DNS, you can serve a fake LinkedIn from linkedin.com. Can't do https though.

Edit: Ignore it, I forgot he didn't control the DNS at that point. So this is invalid.

batuhanicoz··on This Little-Known iOS Feature Will Change the Way We Connect
We've used mesh networking during Gezi[0]. But I don't think most people would understand how to use this or will have it installed in case of a general ban[1].

[0] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_protests_in_Turkey

[1] People started using VPN's and most people knows what DNS is now. So, there is hope.

batuhanicoz··on Turkey Twitter users flout Erdogan ban
President of Turkish Republic can't actually deny new laws/legislations though. He can only send it back to the Parliament for them to review again but he has to sign it if it comes back, even if it comes back the same.

He actually said that this is the reason why he signed that law.

But believing him is up to you.

batuhanicoz··on Turkey blocks use of Twitter after prime minister attacks social media site
Turkish President (@cbabdullahgul) just told his opinions about the ban to public. On Twitter. Oh, I love this country sometimes.
batuhanicoz··on Spiffing CSS: the preprocessor made for Brits
This is bloody stupid; it should be able to save compiled CSS file and not compile it at every request. AND WHERE IS THE GRUNT PLUGIN FOR THIS?!1

batuhanicoz··on Save more with Google Drive
Can we do "selective sync" with Google Drive? I only want to sync "Projects" folder inside my Google Driver folder, for example.

Most of my devices don't have 1TB disk space so syncing everything is out of the question.

batuhanicoz··on Facebook Buying WhatsApp for $16B in Cash and Stock Plus $3B in RSUs
From the press release[0]:

"... and WhatsApp’s core messaging product and Facebook’s existing Messenger app will continue to operate as standalone applications."
Why is that, I wonder. I was really excited when I heard the news since WhatsApp is the most used app and Facebook Messenger is the second, they becoming one would have been nice.

And chatting my friends on WhatsApp using Facebook Messenger [on the web] would be a killer feature for me, I feel the need for a web interface/desktop app every time I receive a message on WhatsApp and my phone is away.

batuhanicoz··on Facebook's Lookback
This is a very beautiful idea and it's brilliantly executed.

Kudos to people who helped making this page, it put me in a somewhat emotional state.

Also, this reminded me another page called "Museum of Me"[1], that was nice too.

batuhanicoz··on Today is Facebook's 10th anniversary
Yeah, not much content; I delete almost every post since they are just dummy posts made with the API.

I just checked again and I know have that page on my test account but no video:

  Thank you, { firstname }

10 years ago people started using Facebook to share their biggest moments. Here are some of yours.

And then just 6 photos, though that account has 7-8 photos anyway.
batuhanicoz··on Today is Facebook's 10th anniversary
My "Lookback" was beautiful; brought back some memories. Made me realise how much my life changed in 6 years.

As for your question, they are not generating it for every user; my test account doesn't have it. It's a 5 years old account.

Take a look at Dashing[0] by Shopify, it can be a base for what you want. There is already a Google Analytics plugin[1]. For Lulu.com, they are saying they are not accepting new developers[2] but if you have an API key, you may have luck building a widget for Dashing.

batuhanicoz··on Hipster CEO
I'm angry with you. Why?

Your app quickly became my favorite game, played it like crazy. It consumed my time so much that I falled behind schedule for a few of my personal projects. Everything was great. I was making virtual millions by losing possible billable hours; it was a true addiction.

Then, it crashed! CRASHED. I restarted it, deleted and reinstalled it, nothing worked. Your update didn't work either. Now I feel lost. Is there a Hipster CEO recovery center you guys know?

My boring jokes aside, seriously, it stopped working properly after it crashed. A assign a job to a worker, it stucks at 0%. Restarting the app, it becomes something like %14. And stays like that. Only way to make progress is to restart it again. And again. I tried tweaking the gamespeed, that's not it. And I rather not reset my device to get an app working. I'm using iPhone 5 with latest iOS 7 update.

Any ideas?

batuhanicoz··on Show HN: Test your E-Mail for IP Leaks
Why don't they advertise this?

Little "dig"ging showed who your provider is, and Google gives me no results on this feature. Also read related docs too, nothing. Wonder why.

batuhanicoz··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
I've heard Apple using Azure but never heard of their use of AWS. How come this isn't advertised on AWS's or Azure's related page(s)[1]?

[1] Case study pages can be an example for "related page(s)" for AWS: http://aws.amazon.com/solutions/case-studies/ for Azure: http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/overview/case-studies/arch...

But "for some reason" I can't think Apple sharing their experience with a platform online. It's not in their DNA, I think.

batuhanicoz··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
It's a bit different rejection story from the most (but certainly not different from all), that difference being Ahmet open-sourced his app, rather then just whining about rejection and burying the code.

And, IMHO, if it wasn't relevant to the community, they wouldn't up-voted it to the homepage.

Also, I agree HN should show subdomains for this kind[1] of sites.

[1] This kind being websites offering subdomains for user-genarated content that is not related to the company which owns the domain.

batuhanicoz··on Show HN: Open-sourcing my rejected iOS app, In-Stock
Although it's not much of a use for me since I'm not in the U.S., looks nice, polished, dead-simple. Ability to open store locations in Google Maps (in addition to stock Maps.app) and remembering last chosen items are nice features too. Too bad Apple is not very open to this kind of things.

By the way, does Apple's official Apple Store application has this feature?

batuhanicoz··on Internet.org ... seems to be missing?
I didn't get it when I first saw this post. Now that I'm checking it on a computer, I'm getting a blank page. Works like a charm on my iPhone. Same Wi-Fi, same DNS.
batuhanicoz··on iGoogle switched off
Think "Google" as a verb. "iGoogle" means, "I, Google".[1] (Same logic can be applied to the iPhone)

According to iMac's history on Wikipedia[2], "i" stood for "Internet". (Again, same logic can be applied to the iPhone and iPad. No idea about iPod, which came after iMac but before iPhone and iPad)

[1] This is my personal opinion. [2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMac#History

batuhanicoz··on Mavericks – power use / service battery
Living alone and working from home, I don't see the need to have that much computers for myself but I can understand the need for you.
