A good programmer with zero experience in a platform, is a better hire than an average programmer with 10 years of experience in a platform.
HOWEVER, the job market does not know this AT ALL and ONLY hires on the basis of platform experience.
Actual managers of programmers may understand, but their HR department incompetency filter is ONLY going on the basis of keywords in the resumes.
It's terrible. If you create a resume with the right keywords[1], in the most desirable techs, and put it up on job boards on Monday, you will get hits on Tuesday, even if your prior job title was "Senior Child Rapist" and your previous employer was the Penn State Football Program.[2]

And that's the connection made when I specifically request an argument that's not slippery slope.
And I'm downvoted for specifically requesting a valid argument. Thank you, HN, or should I say, Reddit Lite.

Or just read the "Why Should You Care" section and really think about it. Is it so bad? Do they have your gramma's name and address and are they sending the Depends cops over to check if she's peed herself? No, they have a bunch of anonymous data that they never attach to you personally.
Everyone's trying to track YOU? NO, that's just some sort of weird narcissist paranoia on your behalf. Nobody is trying to track YOU. Everyone is trying to track EVERYONE. YOUR information is worthless on its own. NO marketer cares about YOU personally and YOUR data is not worth anything negotiable.
If you're scared, get a dog.

Nobody was protecting the interests of artists before the Internet. Nobody. 0.1% got Ozzy-level rich, 0.9% did OK, the rest of the artists were not even allowed to sell their out-of-print back catalog.
