barbacoa··on NYT gives 'water witches' the both-sides treatment
You lack major introspective skills and self awareness if you think your beliefs are the "correct" ones and the rest of the world is full of fools. This kind of attitude has been on the rise and is a large part why public trust of our institutions is falling. No one needs to be protected from bad ideas they are fully capable of reaching that conclusion on their own.
barbacoa··on Intel in talks to buy GlobalFoundries for about $30B
Because there is still big money in old nodes. Half of TSMC's revenue last quarter was from nodes >14nm.

Even Nvidia's RTX 3080TI is on an optimized version of Samsung's 10 nm node.

barbacoa··on Twitter sees jump in govt demands to remove content of reporters, news outlets
Years back a Colorado bakery refused to bake a cake for a gay wedding, the resulting lawsuit ended up going all the way up to the supreme court. The law firm that represented the baker is now officially labeled as a anti gay hate group by the splc.
barbacoa··on Apple and Intel first to use TSMC 3nm
If we ever figure out a way to make caron nanotube transistors in volume, expect another 50 years of Moore's law.
barbacoa··on Federal judge blocks Florida law aimed at punishing social media companies
The law wasn't rejected, the judge issued an injunction until the lawsuit is settled. Nor does the judge indicate he thinks this is blatantly a violation of the first amendment.

"That brings us to issues about First Amendment treatment of social-media providers that are not so clearly settled. The plaintiffs say, in effect, that they should be treated like any other speaker. The State says, in contrast, that social-media providers are more like common carriers, transporting information from one person to another much as a train transports people or products from one city to another. The truth is in the middle."

barbacoa··on Federal judge blocks Florida law aimed at punishing social media companies
I'm not defending the actions of Trump voters or trying to paint them as martyrs. This is more a issue with principle and long term precedent. back after 9/11 Republicans were largely in favor of the patriot act because they thought it would only be used against those Muslims they didn't care for. Fifteen years later those same counter terrorism spying laws were used to spy on and undermine the Republican presidential candidate. That's irony. Decades from now when the political winds change again what do you think will happen the next Bernie Sanders type candidates get close to winning elections? Don't be surprised if all the tech companies use AI to throttle any online communication that is supportive and magnify anything negative of the populist candidate.
barbacoa··on Federal judge blocks Florida law aimed at punishing social media companies
I'm saying the only difference between OP and a racist 1960's store owner is *who* they think should be excluded.

Not that the Florida law holds merit. Just that the irony here is lost to most people.

Interesting SCOTUS found you have free speech rights at shopping malls in California.

Government doesn't do anything for free it's the tax payer that pay.
barbacoa··on YouTube permanently bans Right Wing Watch
This is the first major article about covid lab release dating to Jan of 2020. It was also the first article to be censored. Doesn't mention either of those.

barbacoa··on Why wood has gotten so dang expensive
Speculators are buying lumber futures. When too many start betting that the price will go up it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
barbacoa··on YouTube’s rules are used to silence human rights activists
It's the rank-and-file employees demanding these moderation policies too.
barbacoa··on YouTube’s rules are used to silence human rights activists
The key thing here to recognize is that this unlimited free speech on platforms ended the day Trump was elected. It's presented as about hate speech or preventing misinformation but it's really about class and culture. The top 20% or so of the population, those that are employed by and control all the American mega corporations comprise the professional managerial class. There is nothing they despise more than the cultural values of the Walmart-shopping working class. When those people elected that insane clown as president is the day the professional managerial class decided they need to play a more active role in projecting their moral and cultural values onto everyone else.

Incidents like the one in the article are collateral damage to this policy.

barbacoa··on Missouri Has Declared Federal Gun Laws Invalid
Any Missourians who want to celebrate,

https://ctrlpew.com/yankee-boogle-3d-printable-ar15-full-aut...

Just be warned 3d printing that little squiggly looking bracket is a federal felony according to the ATF.

Even downloading the 3d model is legal gray area.

barbacoa··on After 50 years of the war on drugs, 'what good is it doing for us?'
I don't think the laws are the way they are because people don't have common sense. Think of all the lawyers, drug testing lab techs, court clerks, judges, and probation officers that would lose their jobs if the war on drugs was lifted.

If you ever watched police shows like "cops" they seem to spend 2/3 of their time arresting people for drugs. It's hard solve home burglaries, it's easy to bust people with petty amounts of drugs in their cars.

barbacoa··on Julian Assange: The Man Who Knew Too Much
Back in the J. Edgar Hoover days the FBI kept dossiers on Presidents so they could be blackmailed.

Trump was under active FBI criminal investigations, spanning every aspect of his life, for the entirety of his presidency. Two of his lawyers had their offices raided by the FBI, all looking for anything they could find on him.

Maybe that had something to do with it?

barbacoa··on We’re no longer naming suspects in minor crime stories
"skinny black male with dread locks wearing a black shirt" was the description that the police gave of the suspect.
barbacoa··on Some Americans are breaking out of political echo chambers
That was a very interesting article to read. Thank you for sharing.
barbacoa··on “YouTube is shutting down dissenting Biology PhDs and MDs”
Google ensures YT is pre installed on android phones. They also bias searches towards YT in their search engine. This is classic monopoly behavior; using market dominance in one area to maintain dominance in another. People aren't using YT because they try out the alternatives and decide YT is superior, they are funneled there by google and never know alternatives exist.
barbacoa··on Few people know that Google voluntarily removes some search results
What exactly is diy electrical work? Many states let you file a homestead permit to do your own non-trivial electrical work.
barbacoa··on Don't let social media think for you
It's because tribalism exists on a different domain than logic and intelligence. It occupies the same region of your brain and satiates the same primordial needs that organized religion once did. We used to circle around our priests and their sacred idols for our sense of unity, now we circle around our politicians and made up genders.
barbacoa··on Defending Speech We Hate
>I'm also not sure what they'd be able to do to defend the Jan 6th rioters - it doesn't seem like their 1st amendment rights were violated that day.

The FBI conducted mass dragnet seizure of cellphone data -- much of it without warrants -- in order to identify people involved. This is the kind of thing the ACLU would go bananas over years ago but today are silent.

Kidnapping and extortion of wealthy avocado growers is already a lucrative business many cartels have been branching out to.
barbacoa··on Greenland’s ice sheet is releasing huge amounts of mercury into rivers
Sea level rise is measured at 3.5mm/yr[1] as of 2016 so at current rate it will take 2000 years to hit 7m. NYC may be underwater but it would in all likelihood be as irrelevant to the future as Tyre or Carthage is today.

barbacoa··on Greenland’s ice sheet is releasing huge amounts of mercury into rivers

barbacoa··on Texas to allow unlicensed carrying of handguns

barbacoa··on Police in India visited Twitter offices over ‘manipulated media’ label
COVID lab theory clams were rated false which means social media platforms throttle their visibility and organizations posting those claims were threatened with suspension.

As politi-facts put it:

"There is no evidence that the coronavirus was made in a lab. The overwhelming consensus among public health experts is that the virus evolved naturally."

barbacoa··on Police in India visited Twitter offices over ‘manipulated media’ label
Early in 2020 alternative media discussions that COVID may have leaked from a lab were ruthlessly "fack-checked" and censored from social media for misinformation. Now that we know more these claims have become accepted as a very real possibility.
barbacoa··on Reopening Texas Had No Discernible Impact on Covid-19 Cases or Deaths
It's too late. The genie is out of the bottle. The moment the virus escaped Wuhan there was/is no stopping it. You'll never get a coordinated world wide lockdown sufficient to stop all infection. And being a strain of flu it will likely coevolve with any vaccine we throw at it. Local strains are already showing resistance against various vaccines. There was even a covid-19 breakout amongst the Yankees team even though they were all vaccinated.
