Though I'd just be happy with something like nv (+ Simple Note + Dropbox) which is actively developed (Simple Note just for the iOS).
> Comcast's version of DNS over HTTPS (DoH) will be turned on by default for Firefox users on Comcast's broadband network
> Comcast is the first ISP to join Firefox's Trusted Recursive Resolver (TRR) program
> Cloudflare and NextDNS were already in Mozilla's program
> which requires encrypted-DNS providers to meet privacy and transparency criteria and pledge not to block or filter domains by default
I believe Firefox must not turn on Comcast's DoH as default even for Comcast ISP users. They ought to show some kind of first time prompt.
It will still be "that" lottery.
In its current form every major crypto has been "promoted" as "be the first one to get onto my crypto bandwagon and this will make you rich".
And that will also make sure something like this BBC programme - Missing Crypto Queen - keeps on repeating.
Now, let's say I have a bookmark for "abcd.com" and I have visited "abcd.com" a million times. So the moment I am done typing "ab" in address bar I get abcd.com suggestion which is good.
Now one day I visit (or mistype and hit enter) "ab"ihkskgskkfsbkgbskgbks.com. Yes, just once. Now, for days I get the suggestion "abihkskgskkfsbkgbskgbks.com" when I type "ab" even though every time I type few more letters or delete and change it "abcd.com" before hitting enter. Or maybe for weeks because I just end up going to history and delete that abihkskgskkfsbkgbskgbks.com so that it would never show up in suggestions.
I was introduced to this region's cinema with Kusturica's Underground.
I choose my name as "first name + initial of my last name" (iirc that was my name in my previous/deleted a/c as well) and email and my date of birth and a real photo of mine (very clear -- basically a mug shot). Sent friend requests to 10-12 friends of mine and most of them accepted immediately.
Next day when I logged in I got a prompt that my account was disabled (flagged?) and I can request a review (or it said I can reactivate) only after adding a mobile number and I did that.
Few days later I try to login again:
"Your account has been disabled"
"You can't use Facebook because your account, or activity on it, didn't follow our Community Standards. We have already reviewed this decision and it can't be reversed. To learn more about the reasons why we disable accounts visit the Community Standards."
Maybe I will try to open with another email but they may again force me to use my mobile number and I can't keep getting new mobile numbers. While I do need to look at those "on rent" posts.
This company really has too much power!
I had read about Cut Spelling which, to me, sounds more like SMS lingo - something like "how du u du" - and even though I find SMS lingo really irritating (I have to see that a lot on dating apps) it actually does make sense phonetically :)
Besides I had never been able to get into anything JS or related. I started coding on C, then Python, then Java (very little Scala) and now Java and Kotlin. I dabbled with Go a little and it was nice.
Recently I had to make some changes to a react native component in one of our Android apps and it was a nightmare even though I was able to make those changes and ship very quickly. These just never made sense to me. As in - "why"? I think I am just averse/allergic to react/js/etc, or maybe I am not able to think deep enough, or something like - I am not wired a particular way :/
The privacy. The comfort of having two devices (phone and computer) to be in sync in a private and safe manner. Excellent app ecosystem. Timely and long term updates, upgrades, and support.
But as the parent commenter says I am at my wit's end as well, for the first time since I started using Macs a decade ago - crappy recent OSX and iOS releases, iPhones getting bigger and bigger, being trapped in a data/communication silo etc.
So why am I still here? Because there's nowhere else that's better.
e.g. I explicitly disliked a show and anytime I'd open Netflix, for days/weeks, it be on top either a banner or one of the first in one or many categories. Felt almost like mocking :)
If your libraries is shallow (which anyway consisted of mostly r trite subpar content) it's your problem - don't hit me with your pathetic dark pattern. Their support kept giving robotic answers. It was outrageous.
Besides, irrespective of what the founder (or someone) might say/indicate at times I really don't think Matrix/Riot is looking to compete with Telegram/WhatsApp/Signal. They are trying for a pie of what Slack and the kind have. I am giving up on Matrix as well for it to ever be a personal IM app/service. It' just doesn't make sense and biggest reason for that not happening are:
- People are not going to bother finding different instances, or host their own - they just want one service, one server
- The UI of Riot is specifically designed for group/team chats and I don't think they will try to stand in two boats in one app or have two separate apps.
- There's no money in personal IM apps. So unless there's a coffer like Fb/Telegram or someone like Acton donates handsomely at some point there isn't much there other than just being another Diaspora but in instant messaging space.
Got charged some 40 Euro a year later. I was shocked. My first thought was a compromised card. But immediately afterwards I received invoice from VPS provider. I called the bank and asked them how did that happen. They said it's possible. Lucky for me the provider immediately reversed the charge.
The thing is I had cancelled that Amex card almost a year before that charge had happened. It was still charged! I was baffled. Coming from a country where literally every credit card payment has to be authorised via an OTP or password (since as long as I can remember) it was a whole new world for me.
Well, that cancelled card was charged again (almost a year after I had the last experience) when I shopped at AliExpress and forgot to switch to a new card while making the payment. This time I just paid the bill and went around Internet removing that cancelled card.
