Absolutely -- you're spot on.
bake··on Are You Really Gluten-Intolerant? Maybe Not
While gluten itself may or may not produce any ill effects for non-celiacs (likely not, it seems), it may regardless be a helpful signal of which foods to avoid for other reasons. Even if only adhered to leniently, a bias against gluten has been a great help in reducing the quantity of processed food I consume, the benefit of which I don’t think anyone currently denies.
bake··on Ask HN: I'm visiting SF for 3 days, what do I do?
Thursday night drinks at the Rosewood on Sand Hill Rd.

Google it before you go, though.

It's really hard for me to trust anything I read online on April Fools Day.
bake··on Money can buy happiness
The distinction between INCOME and WEALTH here is important, a distinction which the title/thesis of this article ignores.

The title implies that simply POSSESSING money (wealth) is positively related to happiness, whereas the survey could only support the claim that EARNING money (income) is positively related to happiness.

I would argue that income is a much better proxy for the value a person creates in the world than is wealth (though both are deeply, deeply imperfect). I would much more readily believe a survey which implies 'people who believe they create more value in the world are more likely to be happy'.

bake··on Investors think Snapchat is worth $4 billion. That’s insane.
While I think the Snapchat approach may be a major tenant of online communication going forward (just like in the offline world, there is a great amount that need be communicated but not published), an idea itself is not where the value lies for investors. It's about execution and, for investors, monetization. I think Snapchat will be seen as the nexus of a major change in digital communication, but I'm not sure whether it's Google or Alta Vista.
